NeedToUseYou -> How many Bailout Plans will it take for you to give up on the idea (2/10/2009 4:01:07 PM)

I'm truly curious about this. It seems there are many that still are for more government bailouts, stimulus etc... For the record I have been against everyone so far, and will be against all of them no matter what,  but that is not the question. The question is for those that are supportive of such measures, let's say the current round comes and goes, and its another failure, and proven to be ineffective or wasteful like the first one was. So, will you again, support it, if they propose that the sky will fall yet again without it.

The essential question, is how many times, will it take before you lose faith that the government can fix this mess. Or is there essentially no limit, as in an answer such as "it will depend on the circumstances", as there will always be a circumstance they can use to try to justify it, so that is effectively saying no limit.

Personally, I would think more would be against government spending now, than the first but it appears that many have decided to give it another chance since the president changed. So, I'm just wondering, what the tolerance is here for what in my mind, is the outright theft of money, which by the way, is adding to the debt.

Thanks.

Folks will support them because they're afraid not to.

Folks will support them because Obama is doing it this time, not Bush.

Folks will support them because the current way of life must continue, even though it can't.

Folks will support them because they see the naysayers as just another group of people running around screaming that the sky is falling.

Folks will support them because they think the government can fix anything.

And some will support them because down deep, they don't like America.

How many? Until the situation is either fixed or the nation is bankrupt.

Finally something worth bailing out - the misogynous humor of Howard Stern.

Good news - he'll be back on over the air radio!

Frankly, I'm giving up.   I'm just going to plan for the worst and hope for the "not so bad."   Now, I just need to find a few hundred acres where I can set up a log cabin, hunt, dig a well, plant a vegetable garden and a shed.   Satellite TV.  Um, solar powered systems.  Might have to go satellite internet.

Gotta dig out all those Mother Jones rags....

UncleNasty -> RE: How many Bailout Plans will it take for you to give up on the idea (2/10/2009 5:55:06 PM)

I didn't support the first one, and don't/won't support any future bailouts.

We have a dysfunctional, unpopular Congress, and only an idiot would contemplate giving them the responsibility to determine the best way to use a "trillions of dollars" of money we don't have..or an anarchist who would love the see the decline and fall of the American capitalistic system.
I thought "The Biggest loser" was a TV reality show...but NO....it's the sucker American taxpayer.

I hate the "bail out". The words bail out, stimulous make me sick when I hear them now. The fact is that everything must run it course. The way we've been living has run its course and you can't try and extend it any longer. What did people think was going to happen...gas prices were thru the roof, mortgages were given out like halloween candy, taxes are always too high, we're still fighting a war, prices on everything are too high! Something had to give, and it did. SOOO, NOWWWW our govt wants to bail em out...the banks...the car makers...screw em! When was the last time your mortgage company gave you a break? How about car makers...when did they tell you not to make a payment becouse they know that your going through a rough time? I have a solution, how about some of these ceo's, cfo's, vp's, exec vp's forfeit their million dollar bonuses for the next 10 or so years? How bout some of these big companys down sizing? Do ya really need a 500,000.00 salary or can ya get by on 2 or 300,000.00?  Does Citi bank really need a private jet? How about we take this "stimulous money" and invest it in healthcare and education and maybe create some jobs and the market will right it self. Or how about all tax paying americans get a 5,000.00 tax refund and maybe...just maybe some of us will actually take a vacation which will help the economy.

You *do* understand that bailout and stimulus are not synonymous, yes?

If not, avail yourself of Yahoo News or Wikipedia before posting.

Don't forget the underground bunker, stocked with food, water, and ammo!

I still want to hear REAL solutions to those that favor NO bailouts.
Tax cuts is simply just NOT going to cut it right now.

StrangerThan -> RE: How many Bailout Plans will it take for you to give up on the idea (2/10/2009 8:09:10 PM)

Yes, we have a different word for it this time. I do understand that.

If nothing else, I understand how many words can and will be twisted, polished, and brayed to the public to put a different shine on what is essentially, the same bullshit with more pork.

Sanity -> RE: How many Bailout Plans will it take for you to give up on the idea (2/10/2009 8:11:54 PM)

Judging by the stock market reaction to the Obama plan, stimulus isn't necessarily synonymous with "stimulus" is it.

Strange days...

"Pork"?

But, but, but... the president swears there's no pork in his plan.

I think this will be the last one if only because of fear of revolt. We're talking up to 4 trillion dollars (a number I heard from a professor today on campus), a mind boggling number. I don't even think that much money can be spent on worthwhile projects, and yet they loaded it with pork and partisan bs. And yes it was both parties. Anyhow, I feel this is the twilight of the Republic, and it makes me sad.

Actually the twilight of the fucking Republic was when Americans sat here and allowed
most of our viable jobs to be outsourced.
Now we need to create jobs to replace those not needed anymore in America.
Payback is a fucking bitch.

I bet these newly created jobs won't be outsourced any time soon.

I am just wondering where 4 million jobs are going to come from. They don't just sprout from the ground, and most heavy infrastructure type work requires a bit of skilled training. Trust me, driving a track hoe is not easy (hurray for dad renting one). Anyhow, this is giving me a headache, so night all.

NormalOutside -> RE: How many Bailout Plans will it take for you to give up on the idea (2/10/2009 8:21:59 PM)

As time (and bailouts) go by, the percentage of people who have "always been against the bailouts" will continue to rise.
