Okay now. I could take this in 2 different directions. 1) How do you politely tell an emailer "No you are not interested or 2) Make it a rant.

Here is the situtation: I searched a profile with someone and one of their interests on the LOVES portion is Rubber Fetish. I wrote approximately a one full page email to that person describing my interests and what I am seeking and citing their interest listed in their profile and that I am a latex fetishest. The person was nice enough to send a response saying "That sound incredibly interesting but unfortunately I am deathly allergic to latex"

Since this is not the first time I have gotten this response I was curious as to how many people are allergic to latex. According to the CDC upto 6% of the population can be allergic to latex. I would estimate I have gotten the "I'm allergic to latex" response over 50% of the time. Which really means I am increadibly lucky and should play the lottery or I am being politely blown off.

So my question is how you politely say no? Do you lie about something or do you just be honest and say its not my thing.

While not everyone is allergic to latex (I am, with cross-reactivity to kiwi and the whole bit), many more are sensitive to it, or understand that increased exposure can lead to increased incidence of allergy.  Latex allergy is particularly nasty, so I can understand people playing it safe with your fetish.
I do think it's an odd excuse for people if they aren't interested.  I usually don't waste time replying if I'm not - why waste the time making an excuse to someone you don't even know?

Making excuses is not the best approach, you may see them in a couple of years wearing it in a profile picture. They probably just were allergic, either that or idiots because good lying takes skill and planning IMO.

Seems like a lot of allergies are on the rise.  Thirty years ago, you rarely heard of someone with a peanut allergy, but now they can't serve peanut butter in the public schools because so many kids are allergic.

As far as latex, there are enough people out there with an allergy to it to force medical establishments to stock plenty of non-latex gloves and tourniquets.  Some people may be bs'ing you with their claim of an allergy, but the
allergies are out there.

I have a severe latex allergy, but I would NEVER use it as an excuse...if I am not interested, I'm not interested.  End of story.

First I do want to say that I realize Latex Allergy is real. And I do respect that.

For this case the person does not actually have a latex allergy. The person was obviously lying in their email because in their profile, Rubber Fetish is listed as one of the LOVES portion for the profile.

I cannot touch latex, some plastic's or tape for long without being burned.  You should see me try to blow up balloon's for a um party!  Who needs lip filler!  I can't even hold a pen between my lips!  A bandaid can take my skin off.

I don't know about other's or how many there are, but it does seem like more people are sensitive or allergic.

I don't think anyone should tell you that Mummy, unless it is true.  But if they are saying that and it's not true... you are better off without them!  I'm just sorry it is something you are finding questionable.

Lockit,
I do realize that latex allergy is real for many people. I do feel for those people. Many like you cannot even tolerate bandaids and such. And I do not wish that on anyone.

Being a latex fetishest for over 15 years I have gotten this response many times and rather used to it by now. And sometimes the response is real. The thing I thought was funny is they have it listed in their profile as something they love.

I guess I just do not see the point of lying. The thing I do not get is if they are not interested, why not just say so?

In fairness it would be amiss of me to say there is the visual aspect to Latex fetish and that can appeal to those that never wear it.

Who know's Mummy.  But when they list it as something they like and then say they are allergic... I think it would be pretty hard not to point that out and call them on their lie.  Not worth it maybe, but tempting. lol

There is always the chance that this person who LOVES rubber just don't get it. I mean perhaps they are ignorant of what it is that they are saying they love. Ignorant as in not educated on what is "rubber" as a fetish or desire and condoms or something. Hey there are some spoons in the knife drawer.

This isn't rocket science--" thank you however this will not work due to xxx".

What's so complex about that?

I don't know why they wouldn't just say they weren't interested. Lying about an allergy is never a good idea - and lying about an allergy that contradicts something you love and is clearly stated in your profile is stupid.

However, the incidences of latex allergies and sensitivities is rising in the general population. If you combine the two groups I would say you are looking at more then 6 percent of the population but I haven't looked at statistics. Professions with chronic exposure to latex are trying to minimize employees contact. In some areas all hospitals and EMT's have gone entirely non-latex not just to protect patients but to prevent the workers from developing sensitivities. In my research lab there has always been more then just myself allergic or sensitive so all but one item in the lab is latex free (we can't find a latex free version of the product.)

I actually didn't realize how allergic I was to latex until I came in contact with it everyday. When I first had to wear gloves on a daily basis I started having major problems but before that everything was fine. Since then its become a bigger issue. There are so many places that latex is used in our daily lives that we don't think about - it is hard to remove all of it. Plus, there are the articles of clothing and areas of kink that are off limits and even being around could be potentially dangerous.

I definitely would have liked to have experienced some of the latex fetishes but I know that it isn't worth risking my life. As someone passionate about photography I will settle for enjoying the work of others and knowing that at least others get to explore the fetish even if I can't. Perhaps one day science will come out with a suitable non-latex alternative that will make it possible.

I work in a hospital - and it is amazing to me why people say they are allergic to latex  .....   "my bra breaks me out under my breasts"     ....   "bandaids give me a rash"    .......     "my mother/father/grandmother/aunt is allergic to latex"     .......    the smell makes me sick"     .........    there are few true allergies to latex - just a lot of people who don't understand what an allergy is.   And it is costing health care a lot of money.        . .  .....  and that is my rant!!

But for the few who have a true allergy   -  my sympathies!

As for people who use allergies as an excuse?     They are trying to let you down easily, and haven't yet learned the advantages of telling the simple truth, or just saying "No".

I just realized that I really did a poor job of naming this discussion. I never meant the discussion to be about latex allergies. I was baby sitting my nephew today and really did not devote my full attention to the subject matter. Now I came back to night and look at it and if you just read the subject line i realized I might have offended some people. If I offended anyone, I am sorry about that. The Title shoud have been " How to decline by reason of insanity" LOL

I have it and so does Master, His is much worse than mine. Mine just burns, when I was pregnant and the doctor was using Latex Gloves and later that day we had sex he itched for two days.

Master gets hives when he uses latex condoms and the non latex cause blisters because of something they use to keep the non latex from falling apart from friction.

I don't know what the reason you are getting all these turn downs but maybe you are trying to hard in your e-mail. I don't know about everyone else here but when people send e-mails that tell a story about how they want to do things to me it just creeps me out I mean they don't even know me why are they sending me this stuff??

But, then i'm with Andi in being creeped out by people wanting to do things to me that do not know me.

Again, my point is not latex allergy. I know people have it and it is serious. My point was the Domme lying about it.

The email I sent her was not a fantasy or a do me email. It was an email that showed we had similar interests based on our profiles including the fact she listed Rubber Fetish as an interest. I stated my desires/interests, both vanilla and BDSM wise. What I enjoyed about those things and why.

If the Domme is not interested I have no problem with that and would have no desire to persue it further. The point I do not get is why lie about it? And that is the real question I am asking in the thread.
