People that complains a lot are usually frighten and lonely. They are thinking that they are missed out, missing the party. And believe me they would be the first ones to do things they complains for.It is the same thing with people who are saying:oh look how she is dressing, she is whore, and they would be very happy if that "whore" give it to them.So as i see it there is no problem if complains are real and true but when complains are used for self promotion.

I wouldn't.  But if you are someone who also feels like CM is crappy and people on it suck, you might see him as another "enlightened soul who can see past the bullshit" and consider a kinkdred spirit and have some initial attraction.

There may be some people on here with a whine fetish, but I think most people are turned on by a positive attitude and turned off by negativity.

Complaining people are a big complaint of mine.

Yeah, what's with those people!

I had a roommate once who collected little self-contradictory phrases like "Question Authority!", or "I love people who love...but I hate people who hate.." (and so forth.)

I'm intrigued as to why so many would view a seemingly negative first post on the boards from a member as something that determines a specific personality flaw and why a negative first post is frowned upon, and yet their intolerance remains unacknowledged. Isn't that also negativity and therefore, a double standard? I could understand it if a person's posts had a frequent 'jaundiced' basis to them. Besides, the question in the original OP omitted explanation of what they considered 'negative', so it was left to each individual to apply their own definitions. What's negative to one is a hanging offence to another, and to yet another it's just a gateway for further communication.

One post on a free, all comers kinky web site, and it's meant to have so much importance? Shoot me now!

For a start i don't know from the OP if the complaint were, in fact, justified, or any other circumstance behind it, nor anything about the person behind it.

If i am unable to anser a cold yes or no to the question here, why would i be likely to base the rest of my life on such a snap answer? Folly, pure folly!

At Fetlife, a woman recently started a topic titled 'Wisconsin Sucks' in the Wisconsin Kinksters group. We tried to point out the good aspects of Wisconsin and help her find local groups and munches/parties she could join, but she just couldn't get over the cows and the cold - as if that is all Wisconsin has to offer. Now we're just ignoring her, because not only is rude to start a converstaion amongst wisconsinites called 'Wisconsin Sucks', but she's just negative in general and no one wants to be surrounded by that kind of energy.

You get what you put out.

EDIT: Who knew, but you can't type 'phetlife' here. This makes me giggle...

I didn't read all the posts so I don't know if this was mentioned but the same thing goes on in journal posts.  I can't tell you how many times a disgruntled sub or Dominant "trashes" the unnamed in a journal entry and then it becomes a battle of the witless.  I see someone trashing a former relationship, I move on.

How can that possibly be something positive?

If you reread my original post, you'll note that I stated the question of 'negativity' was amiguous and left us to apply our own definition. Despite your examples of what you consider 'negative', I in no way can agree nor disagree b/c again, they're open to interpretation and leave out far more information than what you have supplied in order for me to determine whether I should consider avoiding their author/s.

My first posts were related to relational issues with an individual on here and the threads (one of which was pulled) became not pretty.  Am I sorry that those were my first posts?  Nope.
So, I'd say it'd be a tad bit hypocrytical, were I looking, to summarily dismiss someone whose initial posts seemed to be complaining or the like.  I'd like to understand the context and also the presentation.

Add mer...once again...to the list of those in admiratin of LaT.

I have more of a problem with those first posts that terlls every0one how EVERY submissive/dominant should act...not just in the OPs world but in their world also. Even then, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, try not to come down on them in too snarky of a manner and s9it back and watch to see if they learn. What they express in their first post(s) may be apologized for (even if in an unspoken fashion) in their next 200 posts.

Or does a double negative make a positive?

There is some mild irony there, but everyone can have a tendency to be negative, and it should be a topic available for discussion, without it actually being reduced to a judgement call about somebody being negative about somebody being negative about somebody being negative, ad infinitum.

Sometimes people bond over their complaints. Theres a book called "A Complaint Free World" that challenges its readers to not complain about anything for 21 days.
Very few can do it, they say.

Negatively critiquing stuff may be a more deeply ingrained habit than many of us realize.

Oh good grief! Someone always has to start with the "everyone likes to complain" stuff.  Come on, not again.

*shrugs* I probably wouldn't mind, depending on what they were complaining about, and how they went about it.

I am generally a very positive, upbeat person, but I've posted a couple of complaints here, including my first posts in the Gorean and poly fora. In both cases, I had a negative perception of a particular word or phrase that was commonly used by people in those respective groups. I was curious if other people perceived them the same way, or how they went about applying it. It actually had the result of making me feel more positively toward the Goreans, and nobody seemed to get bent out of shape with me about either.

I'd be more interested than someone slavishly agreeing with the perceived wisdom of the boards.

Having said that, there are ways and means of voicing an opinion.

Depends on the complaint.  I'm not presumptuous enough to think that just because they expressed a complaint in their first post that it is indicative of their personality.  There are hundreds of possible scenarios that would make such a debut perfectly reasonable.
