PanthersMom,

First, I commend you for your self discipline.  Most of the other viewers of that photograph didn't notice he had hair!

Second, it was YOU who said Mark Harmon...and...Ed Harris?  OH....don't try to weasel out of those choices.   Mark Harmon?  oh....my.  well as they say "chacon a son gout!"

And finally:

pffft!  it's our drool thread, let us be.  go recast the sound of music with your favorite pinup or some such nonsense!  we're having fun and not hurting anybody.  yet.
PM

You will be condemned for that.  I can't get "How do you solve a problem like Jenna Jamison?" out of my head, now.   Nuns, too.

my friends tell me i'm a sadist in mom's clothing.  as for mark harmon and ed harris, mark harmon in his current "ncis" incarnation isn't too bad, cub likes the show and i've just started watching recently.  ed harris in his role in "apollo 13" wasn't bad either.  i tend to remember specific actors in certain roles, i can't be bothered to follow some of these folks in everything they do.  antonio banderas just brings up images of "spy kids".  blech!

See, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Pierce Brosnan, Bill Paxton, Liam Neeson, Mark Harmon, Alan Rickman - they are all lovely and intellectual and easy on the eyes.  Oh yes,
HOWEVER,
we are talking about MAYUNs here.  You know ... I got nothing to prove.  Like me, don't like me, who cares?  that kind of Mayun.

I'm loving the list so far.  yum.

I know!  Seven Samurai is one of the greatest pieces of movie storytelling, ever.  Ever since I spied this thread, I've been trying to remember the archetype of each character, and their counterpart in The Magnificent Seven.

Did you know that a couple of years ago, a new special edition of Seven Samurai came out, on DVD?  It's great, with some really special features.

In that movie, you know one of the more seasoned samurai, very thin and very skilled - the one Toshiro Mifune's character idolizes?  So, who is that character in Magnificent Seven?

Who can do the match-up, between the two films?

And if you're going to re-cast a new production in your mind, who plays what role?

errrr, now I'm going to have to rent or borrow movies.

Actually, Windy, Brad Dexter died a few years ago.  He never made a lot of other big time movies -- Von Ryan's Express comes to mind, but that's about it.

Horst Buckholz is an odd story.  He was going to be the darling of the American hipsters in 1962 when he was cast as a handsome, impetuous young cowboy in what would become the greatest Western ever made.  He was billed as the "German James Dean".  But somehow his "cool" never took off, and while he made a few more good American films, he basically went back to Germany where he became a pretty near a B movie fixture.  He died in 2002.

Any other Magnificent Seven related questions, dear?  It really is the greatest movie ever made.  Really.

E.

About Yul Brynner -- I guess my hormones hadn't kicked in when I watched  The King and I. By the time I saw him in Westworld when he was dancing with Blythe Danner (I think), that was a whole 'nother story........

Now that I think about it, maybe it was also his dominant presence that I was reacting to...?

Edited for last sentence addition.

My picks -

Angus MacFayden (Robert the Bruce, Braveheart)
Oded Fehr
Brendan Fraser
Antonio Banderas
Xavier Bardem
Christian Bale (As long as he keeps his temper)
John Kleese (sp?) Just for fun!!

Angus MacFayden??? AND Oded in the same movie?????? PUH - LEASE!!!! Just bring in a truck-load of super absorbent towels ahead of time, I'll need it with those 2 in the same movie. (Of course, I might need it with just one of them but BOTH?!?)

And here I was thinking that I was the only person who knew about Angus.... SWEET!

Now about Yul Brynner... all I can say is nomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom......
