LadyT,
I am so very sorry to hear about this.   Nobody deserves to be treated in such a  dreadful way.
But please, please, give yourself time to grieve, do not let it destroy your trust in people.
I send you my very best wishes for the future

It's easy to figure out why people break up via email - they fear confrontation.

Or they don't want to deal with the whiney bullshit or the worst quesiton "why"

BadOne
If they have an established relationship, she deserved an answer to "why". Anything less in the act of a coward

Oh come on you have got to be kidding.  You know as well as I that a relationship ends for a whole bunch of small reason It's never one thing.  If you think for one minute I am going to break out my shopping list of whys and spend countless hours discussion them, Well it just isn't going to happen.  Once the relationship is over they deserve "nothing"  Cowardly does not enter the picture.  All my breakups are done face to face.  I had a few contact me relentlessly afterward I gave them no further explaniation.  Other than leave me alone.

Nope...not kidding. If you are not going to man up and give a reason, i call coward!

ETA...if the relationship ends for "many reasons", that counts as an explanation

I agree.  Doesn't make them less of a coward for fearing the face-to-face for whatever excuse.  Sometimes a breakup is the best thing 2 people can do for each other, especially if the relationship is constricting one of the partners (been there; done that).

i am not saying a relationship has to be ended face to face (i am guilty), but i always gave a reason.

I've had the email breakups twice and I found it to be pretty cowardly and dysfuctional.  Of course, part of the problem could've been my choices in partners.     It's embarrasing to admit that but I'm doing it for the good of the order.

i was dumped via e-mail too..which is why i think it is so awful. I actually wrote a nasty response and had a power failure before i could send it. Thank goodness for downed power lines, as no response was the best response.

There are worse ways to break up with someone. I did it a worse way and broke up publicly here on collar. It was the only way I could release myself and the person was not listening any other way.

Well, that is rather interesting.

I believe that a break up should be memorable.

Obviously the more people that you can involve the more memorable the break up.

One of my more favored techniques is to wait till you are out to dinner. Preferably dining with a large group in a "family style" service.  It is nice if it is a large number of couples and you are able to position the women at one end and the men at the other.

You wait till approx. mid meal and then you shout out, above the noise of the crowd, to your soon to be insignificant other, "Honey, could you please pass the asparagus and I thought you should know that I no longer love you."

It's a tried and true classic.
