Screen Name First Impressions (Full Version)

I've seen some names of subs and slaves that, as far as first impressions go, are a turn off.

For me it's the ones that are overly graphic or violent in the name. Not to say that these fine subs or slaves aren't exactly who they claim to be in their name, but it makes me think either they are wannabe's or immature.

What do you look for in a name? Have their been certain screen names that have turned you off, not leaving a good first impression?

Hmmm...The names that I tend to not like are emo/negative names. Something like worm4u or saltytears (I have no idea if these are names here or not) don't appeal so much. Names that deal specifically with a sexual fetish, especially from men, don't appeal, but that's due to my own projections and stuff. So URPegginSlut isn't gonna attract me.

But, really, what makes more of an impression is how they represent themselves, what they have to say to me and how they say it.

The list is short anyone who uses Lord, Master, Lady, Slave, Sub.  You get the idea someone who puts that in their nick.  As if they are attempting to validate who they are and what they are about. I'm like give me a break your already on a bdsm site.

Things that seem derogatory and self loathing in some way are turnoffs.  Things that seem superfluous and arrogant bother me as well.  Anything way too the point will make me wonder if the person's view of things is really that narrow or if that happens to express a fetish he/she will not do without.  These are my impressions.  They can be swayed with a well thought out profile or a conversation that shows more about the person.  I do not stick with first impressions as a rule.  I seek to determine if they were fair based on more evidence over time.

I don't care for a lot of nicks when the nick is sexual.  Like... oralpleaser or 69forU for example.  I also don't like to see, but am less turned off of nicks that suggest a person is emotionally not doing well.

I have been misjudged becasue of my nick, but Locket was always a part of most my online nicks.  It wasn't bdsm at all.  It had specail meaning to me and it always will.  But... locking something doesn't mean just one thing to me.  I love locks... and locking someone, but it doesn't mean just one body part!  I hope my nick isn't offensive! lol

I look for happy nick's or something that says something about the person without the things I mentioned above. Creative nicks with double meaning can be cool too!  But the blantant sexual... ukkkkkkkkk

I am such a frikkin doof.  I never thought of "Lockit" like that.  I thought about a keepsake necklace stopped.  Clearly I need to go back to perv school.

I can't stand names in all caps.  It's similar to someone shouting his or her own name across the room: off-putting, somehow.

any ID that deals with wealth or status is an instant turn off. CountryClubDom, SirMoneyBags, etc...

I know it's lame of me, but i don't like the missing letters/txt spk named. I have to stare at the name forever to figure it out or ask someone what it actually says. I like names that make for easy nicknames.

Most of us can probably agree that names that denote self-loathing or low self-esteem are a big turnoff (sublowlylow, unworthyone, icantstandmyself, etc.), along with the opposite extreme: the LordSuperUberLickMyBootsDomlyDoms among us. Eeeww, to both. They both scream insecurity.

I would also guess that most of us here are like me: turned off by the names that advertise a particular fetish. Cuckyboy, toesucker, yourtoilet, trampleme, etc. These names are sooo "do me", and somehow the boys that have them don't seem to get how one-dimensional and self-serving they seem.

Thank you for letting me vent, OP. There are some lovely people here on CM who I hope will read this and consider making a change.

I wish I could list some of my fave ones from the other side, but I am not sure if it's against the TOS somehow.  There are some humdingers that make me laugh at the same time I'm repulsed, so they deserve bonus points for that.
