I cringe when I see anything to do with degradation or humiliation in the name.  And the ones that add "4U"  to the Uber duminant masters are annoying also.

DavanKael -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/23/2009 8:25:07 PM)

Yes, names that are excessively graphic or obvious strike me as distasteful.  Names that are exotic interest me as do those that are witty.

I've seen some names of subs and slaves that, as far as first impressions go, are a turn off.

For me it's the ones that are overly graphic or violent in the name. Not to say that these fine subs or slaves aren't exactly who they claim to be in their name, but it makes me think either they are wannabe's or immature.

What do you look for in a name? Have their been certain screen names that have turned you off, not leaving a good first impression?

A fun question. For me, screen names with "kitten" this or "cat" that make my eyes bleed, personally.

I looked up FRANCINE.  A crossdresser has it.  Hibiscus was also taken ages ago.  Hence LADYhibiscus.  As opposed to FemaleDominantHibiscus, or some other.  Y'all can call me Hib, though.  Except Bearalicious, of course, who gets to call me whatever he likes! [:D]

Like Hib here, I looked up my name, and it along with many combos with it included were taken.  I looked up my nicknames, but most of them were taken and/or are somewhat childish and that is not the type of thing I want to project here in my search.  I didn't want to use a term like Mistress or Domme, but I wanted something that alluded to reverence without actually giving myself a title, so I took one of my old nicknames, Raven, and mispelled it on purpose to add a twist and slapped on Goddess as a sign of my personal spirtuality leanings.  I could have taken GoddessRayven or GoddessRaven, but by putting "Goddess" it felt too much like putting Mistress on my name so I put it afterwards hoping that people wouldn't see it as a sign of arrogance but more of a part of me.  If anyone talked to me you would see that I am really very down to Earth and grounded so it's obviously just a screen name.  I rarely take any stock in people's screen names here, unless they make a veiled attempt to adveritise their preference for something illegal.

E2Sweet -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/23/2009 9:33:53 PM)

To me, the name's not really all that important. The quality of the person behind it is though.

NuevaVida -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/23/2009 9:49:43 PM)

Wanker names are a bit of a turn-off for me.  Other than that, I find the words behind the name more important than the name itself.  I do tend to like one-word, simple names, though.

MaamJay -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 12:17:47 AM)

Boys with fetishy names (especially where I'm not into that fetish) or uberlowly names (worm, unworthy etc) aren't going to get a second look. Same with those entirely focused on sexual activities. While I'm all for sex, there's more to being My sub than volunteering for oral sex on demand duties! I don't mind label names such as sub/slave etc as at least I'm not left wondering what their perceived orientation is, whereas I might not work it out from a more exotic name or even just a first name. It's nice to have a gender hint too, either in the name or the pic.

While hobbies can be a good thing, they could also be a turn off. For eg, someone whose nick focuses on how much they work out at the gym or how much they love sailing *cough* wouldn't get My attention as they'd probably be so caught up with that they'd never be home to serve Me anyway! However something like "long-haired-boy" would grab Me immediately LOL!

badlilthang -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 6:15:22 AM)

my name explains itself...smiles...i can be bad at times - and i am only 5.2"....hehe

but i must say *supersub4U-perfect-kitten-princess-nymph-chef-flawless* was the one i really wanted..sighs..but it was taken..

TwilightsKitten -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 6:48:57 AM)

I guess my screen name will make some people's eyes bleed then. I'd defend my use of kitten but....*shrug* I'm being me, so whatever. Honestly, if someone doesn't like me just because of using kitten, they are probably not the type of person I'd want to talk with anyway. As to names I don't like, anything that makes it seem like they are trying waaaay too hard. Something like...."supersubbyslutslavegirl" or "ManlyRichDomAlmightlyLordoftheUniverse". It just seems to me they are trying way too hard and probably aren't being themselves.

SmokingGoddess -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 7:22:15 AM)

Anything referencing genitalia or a sexual act will typically make me pass up a profile!
Also I am not a fan of "short hand" in a screen name... like "4-u-2-use" etc  it makes me wonder if the person is lazy or just can't spell

sparkyRBF -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 8:08:08 AM)

i was judged for my nick and banned from a few chat rooms when i first started chatting.  I had not yet found BDSM sites or even knew there were such site or even looking for such sites.  I was very sheltered and naive.  my real name is Barbara Jean so i was going to use my initials.  BJ was already taken.. well i'm a sweet person.. so i made my nick sweetbj  not meaning at all what i later found out it meant.

Being on the other end and learning the lesson again there was a guy with the nick of 'skullfucker' on another site..  I thought that sounded horrible but he is one of the best people i know and i would have missed that had i judged him on his nick.

So why cheat myself by judging someone on their nick choice?

mdr080480 -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 10:09:39 AM)

My screen name is the initials of my full name, and my birthdate... Not all that original, but when I looked at the number of registered users, rather than try to think of some other name that I'd rather not be associated with, I thought what are the chances of another person with my initials and my birthdate joining too and wanting this exact screen name.

sparkyRBF -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 12:46:11 PM)

that's a pretty good idea mdr080480.  gives people your age and something personal about you.

On a funnier side, i work construction.  All the guys have their full initials on their hard hats.  I won't give them my middle initial because my last initial is S.  so that makes my full name initials BJS and you KNOW they are going to put an ' in there.   maybe write 'free'.  It's good enough to just have BS on my hardhat.  that works for everyone.

And yes, it's sparky cuz i'm an electrician.

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 4:24:11 PM)

Like most everyone else said, names about bodily functions, attention whore tendencies, or UberSirLordMasteroftheIShouldLickaShortBusWindow / iamlowerthanaworm type names just make me go blugh!  I try to not judge based on the names, but there comes a time where me judging the person was pretty much spot on .  I have also met a few MasterSuper so and sos that were genuinely good people.  I try to not judge so harshly on the 4uib text speak type names due to the fact that some people have longer handles, that the system just wont allow (one person comes to mind where he had about 18 characters, and it only let him input 16).

I know some people have had issues in the past with my name.  I was gonna choose just kitten.  Well (obviously) thats been chosen up one side and down the other.  So, I took it, mispelled it to make it very original, and added the minx (also mispelled) part because its a part of my personality.  Kitten was also a part of my personality.  I am young, feisty, like to play around, but fuck with me enough and the claw come out, kinda girl.

MiaowMiaow -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 4:50:42 PM)

I cannot help but frown upon screen names such as "UglyDom" and "VaginaPumper"..
These people must really be lacking in the imagination department. >__< However, I seem to fall flat on my kitty nose for gothic names. X__X

SlaveBlutarsky -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 5:13:25 PM)

I'm not a very dark or gothy person, so overly dramatic names that have those themes tend to not inspire me as there probably is a chasm between personal outlooks, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't get to know blackorchidvampyredeathchild69 or whatever.

I laugh at a lot of people's screen names, just because some people are so insanely clueless it's not even funny.

Not to toot my own horn, but I get a random email from someone once a week stating how much they like my name, so people are lookinig at them and formulating some sort of first impression/opinion.

Naberius -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 5:43:02 PM)

I've always liked names that were the opposite of that persons character. I use that same method for my own nickname. It keeps the idiots from contacting me, but it allows those who are intrigued and/or intelligent into chiming in.

tazzygirl -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 5:49:53 PM)

my nic came from an obsession of mine... i adore listening to men's deep, dark fantasies.  so. my first nic was "onefantazgirl"  a few Dommes i knew at the time shortened it to "taz".  a very sweet male sub hung the "zy" on the end, and tazzy was born.

LovingMistress45 -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 7:31:20 PM)

I try to judge names, but if I am looking at profiles I am not going to click on one that is overly sexual or vulgar.  Now if someone writes a nice letter to me even if I don't care for the name I will respond. However, normally if the name is a bit of a turn off the message is usually just as bad.

devotedinSD -> RE: Screen Name First Impressions (2/24/2009 7:42:53 PM)

I like nicks that I can remember easily. Many of the very sexual ones, txt speak ect don't leave a lasting impression.
