What the OP said certainly seems obvious and I'm sure it's been said before and will be said again.  Unfortunately, the people who need to read it and adhere to it most are the least likely to do so.  Telling ignorant folk to "wise up" feels good but doesn't usually snap 'em out of it.  If only.......................luci

I applaud LP for stating what a lot of people have been thinking and also agree that the people who should read it, probably won't.

Stupid is a lot like that little bald spot of the back crown of someone's head.  Everybody can clearly see it but the owner and the people notice it most when the poor fellow's back is turned.  We would assume the bald person should already know, should be using a hand-mirror and examining himself more carefully.  While we would feel free to discuss his lack of hair behind his back, we think it rude to say "hey Barry... your bald spot seems bigger..."

What then is the answer?  It seems obvious that if Barry asks about his thining hair we would be good enough to say "yes, dear, you are bald.  Here are some options..."   So then when someone posts a thread asking "am I being stupid"  it seems the kindest thing to say "yes, dear, that is stupid and here are some options..."

BDSM has *also* been used as a 3-in-one: BD/DS/SM,
The original definition is bondage/discipline/Sado-Masochism. Adding the DS in the middle is a bastardization.

And quite frankly, you can engage in D/s and not do any BDSM and you can engage in BDSM and not be involved in D/s. I have friends that engage in those manners.

To LadyPact: Thank you!

I don’t think it is always a matter of being dull-witted.  Sometimes I think it has more to do with a naïve optimism and/or careless enthusiasm; not to mention unrealistic expectations.  In the excitement of the ‘new’ many want to believe the myth that D/s is somehow better, more honest and trustworthy.
A lot of folks open the door expecting bunny rabbits and find a snake pit.  Even if the answer seems obvious, isn’t it better that they ask before they decide to go in?

I really LIKE careless enthusiasm.......and the odd smidgeon of naive optimism.  I am content to hang on to both within myself.

Complete fucktardness on ALL levels can be endearing, if frustrating...It depends what else it's mixed with.

It seldom needs to be encouraged, it is all around us!

The really funny thing in all this is that many of us who would thrust sanity and common sense upon others have our own succes stories of breaking those ironclad rules that we say everyone should always follow.  For example: i'm with Ma'am, who i've been with for over 2 years, basically because i hopped into a car with someone i've barely met under the recommendation of another person i've barely met (both i've only met that evening).  So then, when we tell our stories to the Naive and the Lonely; all they can hear is the romance of it.  Next thing you know, the stupid shit that somehow worked for us becomes a horror story for someone else on the boards.

Yes. My own waywardness and risky dealings have led me to some pretty sparkling times.

It's all ok when it's me. Anyone else doing the same is a prat...wink.

Dammit, Ladypact...and here all this time I thought being submissive meant I could be a complete retard.  Now I'm going to have to find another excuse.

Thanks for the great post.  As always, you're a great read.

What an excellent point. This post is far better than the OP and far more meaningful.

so IF "S" suddenly stand for stupid sub, don't we all then have the pleasure and duty to beat some sense into 'em. At worst it would be good aerobic exercise and happy family bonding time where we get to show off how cool we are with the flogger or paddle.

Maybe in the hazy subspace some sense will sink in and we will all benefit.

Thank you,  but please tell me you're joking about the OP.  My post was just a side point, the OP was spot on,

Nope, sorry... I wasn't joking. The OP was generic "if you put your hand in the fireplace you'll get burned" advice. Yawn. That it got so many high fives is really disturbing. You hit the porverbial nail on the head, however. Many of us have broken those ironclad rules and not only lived to tell about it but we also have wonderful relationships to show for it that would never have happened had we followed the OP's advice. I'd love to read a thread of all those stories and listen to the naysayers reply to that.

You'd think it'd be simple advice, something that didn't need to be said because it's just SO obvious... but judging from the spurt of clueless threads started... it really isn't. People really are suffering from an astounding lack of self control, and common sense.

Yeah and pointing that out is really gonna fix it.  Not.

I hope it's only been the last week or so.  I'd hate to think the site has gone so far downhill in generally.

I'm really surprised this wasn't moved to another section.  I wonder if I can get away with posting a link when I reply to certain posts where any given OP has seemed to lose their mind.

The whole thread is more of an observation than anyone trying to 'fix' things. That's how I saw it anyway.

Hello LadyPact

I believe, perhaps wrongly, that many people are drawn to BDSM because of self-esteem or other social problems. Rather than a healthy sharing of wants and needs they are willing to dbase themselves for some morsel of acceptance no matter how degrading.

Then there is another portion that are more than willing to accommodate them no matter the mental and physical devastation. Many broken lives and misconceptions arise from these behaviors.

I’m not condemning anyone but pointing out why the lifestyle is so open to abuses of all kinds.

Butch
