Well point #1 is that it hasn't happened yet this is not as simple as Obama says reinstitute the ban and presto it's law.
They will have to pass a new Act that includes a new ban and the big question is will they try to just do the same ban as it was, or will they reach even further and list even more firearms in the banned list than were there last time? We know from history that the ban will not be written to be less restrictive. What new ground will they try to cover in their goal of eventual european style gun restriction.

I know it's all the rage these days for some of our frequent posters to play Chicken Little any time Obama's name is even mentioned but it seems to have escaped some people's notice that, contrary to Holder's statement, Obama isn't coming after anyone's guns.  At least, not yet.

Pelosi throws cold water on weapons ban

Reid joins Pelosi in opposing ban revival

I think that even if they do try to reinstate such a ban, they are going to have a very hard time getting the numbers they would need when there is already clear pushback within their own party.  But who needs truth and facts when it's much more fun to run around in a panic while screaming "the sky is falling!"

If I still lived up in N.H. I'd take Kittinsol out shooting!

Hell - I'd move to New Hampshire for the chance to take KittinSol out doing anything.

Well I can't say that I would move there, but a road trip might be fun.

I LOVE it when people talk about me when I'm not around [8D] .

Now. Where were we... oh, yeah, KittinSol. Damn, she be da bomb. The cat's pajamas, that kid!

On Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder stated in a press conference they were going to ban "assault weapons"

History proves masters prefer their slaves unarmed.

And frankly, any weapon that I would buy hasn't been limited.

Problem with limited and who is doing the limitations. While an Illinois Senator, Obama supported a drive for a 500% tax increase on guns and ammunition. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vKfL2ETnF8&feature=related

Sort of like the new tax going into effect this spring of an ADDITIONAL $1.01 tax on a pack of cigarettes on top of what is on there now. I am not a smoker, but I do see the unfairness of making anything, especially something guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, cost prohibitive as a means of getting around an out right ban.  It can be limited (or taxed) into extinction. And what you may buy today, may be taxed, banned, or regulated to extinction tomorrow. When I lose my rights, your rights cannot be far behind.

BoiJen -> RE: Remember when Obama said he wouldn't come after people's guns? (2/27/2009 2:35:11 PM)

Ya know...that's what I've been saying this whole damned thread...so when are you people going to go knocking on doors with your firearms to remind people that other people have BASIC human rights that are yet to be recognized by the state? Or better yet...made unconstitutional in some states?

Yeah I know like a dog on a bone...as I said my priorities are different from yours...doesn't mean that your issues aren't mine just that they're at different spots on our prospective lists.

And he also stated:" I have no intention-- this administration has no intention of doing anything that would affect a states regulation of firearms,... who can carry a firearm, under what circumstances. Nothing that we are doing in that regard."

Then the next wonderful thing you see is U.S.  Congressional House Resolution 45, which takes the states out of the picture completely.

Not door to door, but every chance to discuss it across My desk with whomever will listen....like you said, it is not my BASIC right, but when your right's are less, then so are mine.

I live NYS, which btw has one of the most stringent set of gun laws in our nation. I bought a couple new guns about 3 weeks ago. After providing proof of who I am, via drivers license, and filling out a couple simple forms. I paid for the guns and walked out of Gander Mtn. with a Mossberg 590 and a Remington 7mm Magnum.
Just for the record, I wasn't angry when I bought them. [;)]

I presume you've heard of instant background checks.  Either one was performed when you purchased those weapons, or the dealer broke the law.

Actually, that is a typical trick of people who don't have an argument, as illustrated by your own post....just start making up shit...

And an instant background check to make sure the buyer of a firearm (I do learn from posts, I will no longer call it a gun) is not a felon or one with a history of hearing Venusians telling him to shoot the evil Albanians is a bad thing because?

Exactly...they do the background check via the phone. But there are no waiting periods in NY for rifles, shotguns or handguns ( as long as one has a handgun permit).

I didn't say it was a bad thing, Spinner.  I don't have a problem with background checks.  I don't think they're very effective.  You don't have to undergo a background check when you buy from a private citizen.  I don't know about New York, but the Classifieds here are filled with people selling guns.  No background check required.  Criminals don't go through legal channels to get firearms.  They buy them on the street, or they steal them.

Okay. So he should've said; "I'm not going to take away your hunting and sporting rifles.  I'm not gonna' take away your guns...unless your gun happens to be specifically designed for assault/warfare."

There are THREE words in "Assault Weapons Ban".  Each one of them are important.
