I wonder if they will charge extra for each square of toilet paper...lol

Irish airline could make passengers pay for toilets Midday update Shawn Pogatchnik • Associated Press • February 27, 2009 • From LSJ.com
DUBLIN - Is a bathroom an optional extra when you're at 30,000 feet? Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary seems to think so - and says his no-frills airline might charge customers to use its aircrafts' toilets.O'Leary whipped up a frenzy of indignation and potty humor today as he suggested that future Ryanair passengers might be obliged to insert a British pound coin before they gain access to in-flight relief.Politicians and analysts agreed that the man who pioneered charging airline customers to check bags, to use a check-in desk, and even to use a credit or debit card to make an on-line booking just might be serious about mile-high toilet extortion, too.

I do my utmost to not need the bathroom on a flight.

aravain -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 1:58:07 AM)

~FR~

It's no different from pay-to-use public toilets, really...

but like Camille65 said... I will do everything in my power not to have to use the bathroom on a flight. If I have to, chances are I wouldn't care too much about a fee (as long as they had a way to pay for it that didn't involve cash since, on flights, I rarely carry any).

BbwCanaDomme -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 2:00:51 AM)

From what I remember from when I was in the UK, Ryanair is super cheap, and doesn't do long haul flights, so I don't see the problem.

DeviantlyD -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 2:03:34 AM)

Given the malicious creativity of certain individuals, I shudder to think of how those particular individuals may express their displeasure with such penny pinching ways. Just add on the pound to the ticket fare ffs. I doubt anyone would complain, versus the indignation one might feel having to stuff a coin into a slot to access the toilet. Besides, what about line-ups? Do they honestly believe passengers are going to police the toilet by ensuring the door is closed behind them when they finish? All it takes is one person to grab the door before it slams shut and to leave it open for the next patron. I'd say Michael O'Leary is a dumbass if he thinks this is good business. My humble opinion, of course. [;)]

I see an up and coming new use for those airline "sick bags" . Bet the crews will love that. [:'(]
Of course, given his track record, Mr. O'Leary will probably make them pay to use the facilities in flight as well. [8|]

You don't?

When you go to a restaurant do you have to pay additional fees for eating utensils?

When you stay at a hotel are you charged for towels?

It was ridiculous enough to start charging for luggage, as if luggage was somehow an unnecessary extravagance when traveling.

This is beyond ridiculous.

BbwCanaDomme -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 2:33:19 AM)

For the amount of money you save by flying with them, why not just make sure to bring a few pounds on board just in case? Or if it's such a huge deal, there's no lack of airlines, I'm sure there's another company doing the same route.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 2:39:48 AM)

If I were in charge of that airline I'd make up for it by giving away complimentary brownies.

Laxative laced brownies.

The profit and toilets would be overflowing.

The other airlines will start doing the same if they see Ryanair able to, just like with charging for checked luggage, serving ridiculously over-priced beverages, and selling you earphones to listen to the in-flight entertainment.

what about for joining the mile high club?

RealityLicks -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 3:21:54 AM)

Well, if it's a quid to have a slash, how much will the condom machine charge?                                                                                                                                                            Funny thing is, after Ryanair started charging people to use phones on board, a guy placed a bet that they would soon start charging for toilet facilties.  The bookmaker gave him 100/1 odds and have paid out this week.  Where's there's muck, there's brass.                                                                                                              I've used Ryanair and they are no better or worse than the other "no-frills" airlines (do they have them in America?) .  I doubt it's that big a deal to most but the principle is screwed up.  How long before it's a fiver?  And if you pay more for 20 kilos of luggage than 10 kilos, shouldn't those who take a dump pay more than those who only take a slash?  How about "frequent squatter" miles?  Or charging extra for toilet paper?

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 4:27:15 AM)

OP, are you a Communist? Why shouldn't Capitalist Airline owners charge to take a piss? After all, they have to hire peons to clean up after you. They have to pay for insurance in case a block of frozen piss plummets through the atmosphere and takes out Ma and Pa Kettle's Farmhouse that they have been building ever since their ancestors killed a bunch of savage native communists and took the land what was rightfully theirs, due to them being White and Protestants and Holier than them heathens, so sayeth the Loord.
Really, I ask you: why shouldn't the airline owners charge you for pissing? After all, they only contracted to carry your carcass from point A to point B. They never said it would be under humane conditions. You're fucking lucky that you even get a seat.
Man, I LOVE Capitalism! I can fuck over the whole planet and the Capitalist courts will exonerate me! What a system! What a country! To think I have spent over 40 years trying to build a nation based on fairness, and equal justice, and doing the right thing, when all I had to do was be white and a friend of Bull COnner and JB Stoner! Wow!

Then I guess it would only be 1/2 pound a piece. Just make sure you get your moneys worth.

To the OP...They would lose my business if they pulled that here.

Crush -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 8:31:27 AM)

It is going to get really smelly back in Coach.....

Of course, there is another solution.....Depends on your preference.....

OneMoreWaste -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 11:11:16 AM)

I predicted this back when U.S. carriers started charging for luggage; I'm only surprised it's taken this long.
I expected it to be credit-card-based rather than coin-based, though. Personally, I try to make sure I'm not carrying any coins at all when I fly, so there's less to fumble with going through security.

Give it time.

If it works there you know you'll be seeing it here eventually.

Lucylastic -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 12:31:13 PM)

If they had their prices over here(canada and US) I wouldnt bitch at all ..of course the only people who this will effect are people with bad bladders or UMs who cant take a short haul flight, in which case depends would be far more convenient
Its cheap and cheerful, well not so cheerful, those yellow and blue seats are yucky and I wouldnt wanna get stuck on a long haul.
I dont use onboard loos, unless something is wrong with me, but I appreciate there are those who will be peeved with their decision.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (2/28/2009 4:02:14 PM)

I don't either, but one time right before a flight I ate some brisket, and it gave me wicked stomach aches and gas, and instead of poisoning the air others had to breath, and because I do have manners in public, I opted to go to the bathroom to relive the gas and bloating. Airline toilets are germ havens and just really really gross, and I'm not even a germaphobe or anything.
