Okay, after reading the responses so far I've come to the conclusion that I would charge y'all to use my bathroom too.
Objection withdrawn.

You hardly see pay toilets (at least in the U.S.) anymore.  When I was a kid, the damn things were everywhere.  Usually they were hanging on the stall frame by one hinge after somone kicked the door in. [:D]  BTW, they almost never had dry toilet paper.  Most of them were beyond disgusting.  When you force people to fork over money to relieve themselves, they tend not to respect the facilities.

Oh, I would only do it for the beauty of the gesture, Cory: the idea of pissing for sexual gratification makes me want to gag as well  [X(] .

OP, are you a Communist? Why shouldn't Capitalist Airline owners charge to take a piss? After all, they have to hire peons to clean up after you. They have to pay for insurance in case a block of frozen piss plummets through the atmosphere and takes out Ma and Pa Kettle's Farmhouse that they have been building ever since their ancestors killed a bunch of savage native communists and took the land what was rightfully theirs, due to them being White and Protestants and Holier than them heathens, so sayeth the Loord.
Really, I ask you: why shouldn't the airline owners charge you for pissing? After all, they only contracted to carry your carcass from point A to point B. They never said it would be under humane conditions. You're fucking lucky that you even get a seat.
Man, I LOVE Capitalism! I can fuck over the whole planet and the Capitalist courts will exonerate me! What a system! What a country! To think I have spent over 40 years trying to build a nation based on fairness, and equal justice, and doing the right thing, when all I had to do was be white and a friend of Bull COnner and JB Stoner! Wow!

I'm a fan of capitalism, but I would think all those costs are reflected in the price of an airline ticket.  To charge people who are "trapped" in a vessel and have no other option to relieve themselves just seems like gouging to me.

scifi1133 -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (3/1/2009 10:38:06 AM)

Well lets see...they cant charge people who need them for two seats. They still give out free drinks and food.......even though one tries to stop doing that. They must charge for something I guess. And didnt your parents always tell you to go before you left?......lmao

susie -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (3/1/2009 10:49:20 AM)

FR

The whole point of Ryanair is that they try to reduce the price of their tickets as low as they can. You then pay for all the extras. They charge for all drinks and food onboard but you can take your own food with you for the flight. For some travellers the cheapest price for the flight is what is most important rather than the frills. It works for them and for anyone that wants the free food and drinks they can pay more for their tickets with one of the other airlines.

what about for joining the mile high club?

Then I guess it would only be 1/2 pound a piece. Just make sure you get your moneys worth.

To the OP...They would lose my business if they pulled that here.

there are still pay toilets in the UK though, I don't see how this is any different than that. (Even though I hated pay toilets there, the first time I used one I was by myself in a city I had never been to, and I sat there for like, 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get through the gate thing, then some woman came up so I asked her, but she was a tourist and didn't know either, so we sat there for another 10 minutes and talked about how stupid pay toilets are until someone came to help us. Then my purse got caught in the gate thing and spilled everywhere. That was a good day.)

Lucylastic -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (3/2/2009 9:05:25 AM)

I remember all the big train stations in london having pay to use loos as a kid/teenager, many many years ago, paddington and euston in particular
Does anyone else remember the old rhyme
"here I sit broken hearted,
paid a penny and only farted?"
only me??? ah well lol

kittinSol -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (3/2/2009 9:07:35 AM)

Last time I went for a slash at Victoria Station, I had to pay 20 pence for the privilege. BUT! It was super clean :-) .

Viridana -> RE: Airline to charge customers to use its aircrafts toilet (3/2/2009 9:11:29 AM)

Somehow I just don't equate toilets to "frills". If you are hungry you have the option of buying airline food or bringing your own... that to me is a frill. But what if you need to pee? it's not like you have any option other than visiting the toilet...... well unless you just let it go into the seat :P
