of course no where near the number who have been "stopped" by gunshot whose families than got to sit thru the ensuing murder trial

Well thank you for mentioning that. I'm glad you brought it up. Because I would bet the number of those victims who were armed (if any) is nowhere near the number that were unarmed.

Edited to add: I just saw Mod 11's post... noted.

Follow that logic to its natural conclusion SubRob and lets do away with most of the laws currently on the books

In the capital punishment argument, your side argues that it's better for 100 guilty people go free rather than killing 1 innocent, but on this topic, you argue, it's better to deny EVERYONE the right to own a gun, rather than dealing with the one guilty criminal who gets a gun illegally. I swear your side is illogical to me

Can you show me any kind of statistic that shows criminals are using fully automatic weapons to commit murders? As long as there are nations with defense interests, there are going to be people looking to build the bigger, badder more efficient killing machines.

Wishing to ban machine guns is like wishing that your fairy godmother turns you into a Princess to go to the ball every night.

Just trying to understand this subrob, but is it your beleif that it is better 1 or 2 innocent men be killed,as long as we can kill a hundred guilty men?

Okay as long as we are chilling out.....Could I ask one question, does anyone here really believe this bill has a snowballs chance in hell winding up on President Obama's desk. And if not why all the hand wringing over it?

Just for kicks Kirata, being as you started this thread......would you care to share with us your thoughts on the possibility that this bill as it stands ever becomes law.Or is this just another "there coming for our guns" chicken little thread?

I'll ignore the swipe and just say this. I would like to think that it's chances are approximately zero. But I've been wrong before. As a general rule, it is not a good policy for people to go to sleep when a bill they don't like is introduced, lest they wake up to a nasty surprise -- and the person who told them not to worry grinning at them.

So essentially given your zero probability answer you concede this is much ado about nothing.Especially when one considers the pro gun lobby never sleeps,so little chance they will wake up to a "nasty suprise".

I most certainly do not concede that this bill, or any other, should not generate a reaction among people who have feelings about the issue involved, whatever that might be, and I am at a loss to explain (in any way favorable to yourself) why you are hijacking the topic to harp against the discussion and ridicule participation in it. Please stop.

I do. I think it passes the House easily, even without SanFranNan pushin it thru with her broom.
The Senate is a little more problematical, but there are at least three Republicans who might vote for it, and most of the Dims have never seen an anti-gun bill they didn't like. I would expect 100% of those Ds whoe are not up for re-election to vote for it.
So, sure, I think there's a chance.

If that was true Brady never would have passed.

Yeah it really sucks when a guy who gets paralyzed for life from being shot manages to con legislators into gun restrictions.

No, rule, that qualifies his wife to negate the Second Amendment.
That's the basis for sound national strategy- personal tragedy.

And how would that inventory be compiled since nothing in this(that I saw) would have anything to do with guns allready in private possession. The paranoia exhibited from the gun crowd is staggering.

This is a paranoia I'm ok with.....

fast reply....

Has anyone besides me ever taken the time to note and separate the types of apparent personal moralities folks seem to maitain in the pro or con contingents?

I understand the reason there are those that fear guns, but their fear might also reside with a butter knife in the end. Should we regulate those as well?

I like being prepared for anything, it's my responsibility to defend my home. I like it that way.

Don't worry, Mike, I got your back.

Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.

Feel better?

Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.

Guns don't kill people, period.

But a person with a gun may or may not injure or kill someone. The "someone" is likely to be an innocent person, if the person with the gun is a violent criminal, or it may be the violent criminal who gets shot, if the person with the gun is an unwilling victim. But interestingly enough, in either case the ultimate responsibility for the shooting can be fairly said to rest with the criminal.

There, now we all feel better.

Actually, I remember reading somewhere (this was before everything was on the net so I can't give it attribution) that those with guns in their houses are 400% more likely to get shot than those without guns in their houses. So actually, the person with the gun may or may not injure or kill someone by choice, misadventure or plain stupidity.

There..I do feel better now.

Well... not me. I have almost a dozen guns within 3 feet of my bed. And now I'm afraid to go to sleep!
