what a classy lady. Loved her in Parent Trap. My sadness is for her sons that have lost an amazing mother and to her husband who has lost his soulmate. How many of us are that lucky to find one. They are in my prayers...

It sounds like she was a nice lady.  I'm always amazed at the outpouring of sympathy from strangers for people who die that are primarily known for being really good at pretending they are somone else.

Me too. But I think I have a theory about that. In my opinion, the truly good actors are the ones who - in the course of pretending to be someone else - convince us of the authenticity of that character by showing us a great deal of who they are. Does that make sense? I think that's what makes a truly great actor; someone who can make us identify with them, and care about the character they're portraying, by showing us something of their own humanity. And in many cases, by showing us even more of their humanity than most of the people we know in our everyday lives do - good actors are good actors because they just strip their emotions bare, and  expose their fears and their hopes and their vulnerabilities completely to us, which is very different from the way most people guard their emotions and their vulnerabilities in the real world.  My hunch is that's why many of us find it so tragic when they die - many of us really do feel as though we knew them, but can't really explain why.

At any rate, on the one hand it's easy to say that this is no more a tragedy than the death of any other human being. And that's true. But at the same time, it's just as true that for her loving husband and their young children, this is the most unspeakable tragedy they can even imagine. For them, I am very sorry and very sad tonight. And I wish them all the strength they'll need to get through this. Best wishes to everyone who loved her.

Not only a wonderful actress but a truly kind and considerate human being.  Terrible loss. Her children and family in our prayers.

I have been sitting here looking at a few pictures of Natasha, Liam, and her family.
Her poor mother, Vanessa Redgrave, she looks worn down, hard to bury a daughter.

What has happened to Natasha is a huge shame. I am more familiar with Natasha and the other Redgraves than I am of Liam Neeson as they were acting 'greats' during the era I grew up in, the poor man must be devastated along with the rest of her family, especially her mother, Vanessa. No parent should face the tragedy of burying their child.

Perhaps it's time to introduce a type of helmet for safety purposes, such as the kind cyclists wear, for use on the slopes.

Tragic, simply tragic, although since she was apparently brain dead it's for the best.

Hey Guys,
Would your heartfelt sympathies go out to someone who is a....nobody? She was a celibrity, born into a dynasty of celibrated media icons, known by virture of the media, an actress, of no greater talent than any other actress. What did she do with her wealth and importance and celibrated position? Did she tend to lepers as Mother Thresa did....no; she enjoyed her life as most Rich people do, met her end in an exploit of self indulgence in a Luxury Ski Resort.
How did she effect your lives? Did you know her personally?
You guys need a reality check.

Maybe you should check out AMFAR, which she was on the board of, donated to, did fundraising for and played an active part in.

A quote from an amfAR spokesman:

"Our hearts go out to her family. This is a catastrophic loss for them, and it is a terrible loss for amfAR and the fight against Aids. Natasha Richardson was a dedicated Aids advocate and an eloquent spokesperson for amfAR. She generously contributed her time and resources to amfAR for over 15 years. Natasha's passion for the cause and tireless efforts gave hope and inspiration to the scientists and healthcare workers on the front lines of this deadly epidemic, as well as to the millions of people living with HIV/AIDS around the world."

They are available and have been required for anyone involved in ski and snowborading competition for 20+ years. I grew up in the era where I wore my helmet only to race and took it off as soon as I was finished. Once my children were learning to ski, 18 years ago, I began wearing my helmet full time to set the example for them.

No helmet can prevent every head injury but you certainly increase your safety factor exponentially if you wear one. At some point I would not be surprised to ski areas mandate their use to lessen their potential liability.

It is a tragedy for anyone to loose their life in such a seemingly minor accident. It serves to remind me that life is fragile and that I need to do all I can to protect myself and those I love from the same fate.

Please, She met with a tragic end.... at a luxury ski resort, indulging herself in 'Fun'....the 'Fun' turned tragic....the only reason you knew anything was because she was a media icon. If she was a....'nobody'....'unknown', 'uncelibrated', you would have heard nothing, but nothing....no media concern, whatsoever.
Only the 'ICONS' are presented to us, the masses, as if we all are friends, or somehow entwined into their lives....it is media stuff, that is all.
The concerns are for her immediate family and friends.....has no effect on the world.
Can you name anyone of the innocent 9-11 victums?
You, me, and the millions of others who are not in the media limelight are nothing but a number, ...part of a herd, nameless nobodies.
What her life's contributions were are to her credit.....but....be aware, some of these Icons, donate their time and status free to certain organizations, calculate what that percentage of their time is worth, and take a tax deduction for contributing their time. I don't know what she did with her AIDS arrangement, it's not my business to know her business.
She died in a senseless accident.....leaves behind a rich actor husband and their rich offspring. so.

Her father died of Aids related complications.  Usually when a family member or someone close to you dies tragically from whatever disease they die from, some people tend to get really involved in that particular charity organization.  I donate to cancer foundations and heart foundations, due to family members fights with those particular diseases.

Not to sound jaded, but I have wondered lately why people get so involved in celebrity tragedies, when tragic things happen to regular people very close to home.  I know when I was a teen and young adult, the lives of celebrities was something I was interested in.  But as I am getting older, I guess I am less focused on them and more focused on the average person trying to make their way through this sometimes difficult life.

Yes, her death is sad and she was glamorous.  It will be difficult for her family and her friends.

you might consider yourself to be a part of a herd and a nameless nobody. If so, i feel sorry for you.

I, and others around me, are not numbers or herds. We have names. We love and are loved in return. We share and give of ourselves daily. We have families, spouses that love us, children that need us, and parents that are proud of us. We smile at strangers on the street and make their day a wee bit brighter. We interact on-line with friends we have not yet met. We change the lives of others in ways we cannot understand as mortals here on earth.

How dare you call us nobodies?

Hello Phoenix; Addressing to your 'jaded' statement. You have matured intellectually to the point where your life, what is going on therein, is more important to you than what is going on in some other distant personalities. It's not being Jaded' it's being realistic, and not 'star gazing'.
