Status: offline 		No, your entire post struck me as heinous - I only quoted one passage from it, because it would have been too emotionally taxing for me to try and delve that far into the reasons why you wrote what you did. At the same time, I had to react, even if it was only partially, because it was so outrageously wrong... now, I kind of wish I'd left that particular stone completely unturned  . I hope that some day, you find it in you to educate yourself, but in the meantime, don't be surprised if you attract similarly negative reactions.

Ah but I think you err in your concept of "fitness". Reconsider the spelling contest winner in your example. We have survived as a species more because of our intelligence than anything else. We are far from being the biggest, strongest, or fastest animal around. If I was inclined to follow your plan, I'd expect a better long-term result from shipping them rifles rather than machetes (or any other weapon that affords mindless brawn an advantage).

No he wasn't. He was in the Hitler Youth when he was a bairn.....at that point he wasn't old enough to understand the ins and outs of National Socialism.

Status: offline 		Yes he was.....as was his brother, who both sought refuge in the church, later, had their records whitewashed so all that remains is...the record of enlistment, AND what they, the brothers tell us. Nothing can be verified as to their Nazism.
You'rare a smart guy, I've read your posts, but us some common sense with this...his one explanation when querried...did he ever fire at the good guys...no was his reply...he had a nail felon on his trigger finger, and was disabled.
When he visited his home town....someone, painted the swatzika on his house.When a neighbor was interviewed, and asked...He didn't have a choice, everyone had to join....the neighbor replied...no, there was a choice, if you didn't join, and the Nazis caught up with you, off you went to camp. Others from the same village didn't join up, and sadly some went to camp.
His, ratzsinger's past is all but oblierated, it would have been an interesting read; and how convienent, all we have of his history is what he and his cardinal (or whatever), brother wrote. Nice, huh. And we all have to accept and believe.
Once a Nazi, always a Nazi, he was and still is...a Nazi. Codoms in Africa?, that's the best he can do? What is the problem????

No, actually, mentioning the spelling bee winner is just as central to the concept as the sports athlete.  'Fitness', as you are defining it, simply means the best, be it physical brawn or mental acuity.

And it is not so much our intelligence that affords us an advantage against other animals.  It's our ability to reason.  Quite a bit of our normal, subconscious traits can be found in several different species, including, but not limited to, wolves, primates, elephants and horses.  Considering that it is basically 1:30 in the morning right now and I am already brain fried slightly from an earlier diatribe, I won't go into a list of specifics, but suffice it to say that the pack mentality of humans is not much removed from that of any of those four species I listed.

If you want, we can continue it some time after the sun comes back up in the midwest.

And not to sideline the whole topic, but DAMN, you look a helluva lot like Lee Marvin, or at least the person in your avatar does.  Kind of creepy, since I just finished watching a mini Lee Marvin marathon here at my house.  Both Flint movies and The Dirty Dozen.

Status: offline 		This point may not be new for this post -- I sort of skimmed it -- but I wanted to mention that humanitarian efforts, specifically immunization of children, probably contributed to Africa's overpopulation in the first place. Daniel Quinn, whose style I find extremely annoying but whose ideas merit consideration, further argues against humanitarian food-aid, ultimately resting his argument on the relation between world population and food supply (more food, more people).

Addressing an earlier point about China's involvement in the region -- it's not clear that increased industrialization will help Africa, specifically in terms of the population issue.

And, yeah, to restate the consensus -- the Pope should go fuck himself. Education on condom use and safe sex, as well as access to birth control and abortion facilities, all appear as the best, most potentially effective forms of humanitarian intervention. Beyond that, additional educational and employment opportunities for African women certainly wouldn't hurt.

Why doesn't the Pope open a nunnery?

Yeah that's me. I never heard that one before, but some years ago now, back when I was still living in Manhattan, I had a 'stache and apparently resembled Dr. Johnny Fever enough for some tourist to conclude that I was, and importune me for an autograph. I could see it was going be easier just to give him one, so I signed "Howard Hesseman" and sent him on his happy way. I hope he isn't reading this.
