Fantastic to see no talk and shooting in the head! Especially good to see some who frown upon capital punishment welcome the judgment and execution of these men, rumored to be as young as 15 years old. However better dead than imprisoned and tortured in Gitmo, huh? Good to see the "talk to our enemies, to understand them and make them our friends" disclosed as just campaign rhetoric. Wonder if he called President Bush first, or just used the playbook he left behind, moving from the chapter about 'Economic Stimulus' to 'Killing US Enemies of Any Age'?

These pirates operate from a mother ship several hundred miles out. These ships will be the next target of our Navy. These common criminals have links to the same groups we are fighting in Iraq and Afganistan.

Come now Merc, you know that if they were representitive of a Government as opposed to lawless groups of individuals there would indeed be a difference in the way the issue was handled. This is not unlike the other terroristic issues we face,these people do not represent a Government or an armed force serving a government. Not to say that they aren't supported by varying governments that have issues with us as a country. Taking out a few pirates is not going to war, and it isn't taking anything away from the campaign promises made by the President.

If Obama hadn't given the order to shoot, who do you bet would be out here complaining that he's a wuss [8\|] ? Note: I despise the way people in America are refusing to address the reasons behind the pirates' actions and choosing instead to bury their heads in the sand. Some of the people who are so quick to judge would be the first to advocate taking the law into their own hands in order to protect their own interests - I think there's not a small amount of xenophobia and racism going on there. On the other hand, there was an emergency situation with an innocent man in mortal danger - the president did all that he could do, considering the circumstances. It's typical that the anti-Obama crowd is jumping on this train to vilify the president for taking the only course of action that was available to him.

My …aren't you going just a tad overboard as the devils advocate? Remember they had every opportunity to release the captain and flee before the Navy was forced to intervene. No one was holding them there at gunpoint… they choose to stay…not to make a plea for clean water…but to demand money for a life. If it were your other tied and threatened with execution…and the captors were making impossible demands…I’ll bet you would be just fine with them receiving a bullet in the head in exchange for your loved ones life…If you say not then you are talking with your brain and not your heart. What did you expect Obama to do? If he gave in to the ransom demands and released the pirates, or allowed them to make land, they may very well have not released the captain and demanded more money. If they could have made the US Navy back off then there would be no stopping them… There would be no incentive not to kidnap…imprison...and extort. They may feel its safe to move even father away and start attacking cruise ships…lots of rich kids there for ransom. You talk about talk…will tell that to the other 200 plus prisoners…some have paid ransom and still the pirates have not released them. I don’t believe poverty is an excuse for piracy and a 15 year old can kill just as well as a 30 year old. By the way if all they needed was money don’t you think the 200 million or so already paid in ransom would be enough? I’ve lived in poverty…I’ve been the victim of injustice… but I don’t pick up an AK47 and rob a 711 and shoot the clerk or hijack a ship and threaten death to my victims. They were given the opportunity to freely leave by the crew… then to peacefully surrender to the Navy…They choose another route and deserved their fate.
