Ask your happily married friends and relatives how they met. For the vast majority of folks, it was through mutual friends or mutual interests or mutual work. For most of them, they were not looking to fall in love, it happened.
So the advice you recieved wasn't negative. Be here for the mutual interest in bdsm. Let love happen.
Think also about panning for gold. If you look at the American River you don't see gold. Look under the surface of the water, you don't see gold. You have to put your pan under the sand and the mud and patiently swirl it around over and over and over again. Don't concentrait on how much mud and sand and rock, concentrait on the gold. You will find stones that glitter, they will catch your attention so much that you will have to examine it. When it's not gold, don't get bitter, get another panfull. This is how gold prospectors were successful. This is how to be successful in "finding" love as well, in my opinion.
Oh, and by the way, my Master and I are very much in love. While we have made a decision never to marry, we have been a couple for 18 months and have been living together for 8 months. What we have is our personal definition of 'true love' although it's not necessarily vanilla.
