Ah here you are..........not sure i'm a fan of this new forum category.

Anyway, read through the pdf. Intriguing stuff. Is it a hoax? Because if it isn't then i was struck by how mundane it was. By which i mean, all these wannabe terrorists end up much of a muchness. More in common with each other than anything else.

Here's a snippet from a Reuters article:

quote:

MIAMI (Reuters) - Right-wing extremists in the United States are gaining new recruits by exploiting fears about the economy and the election of the first black U.S. president, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report to law enforcement officials.

The April 7 report, which Reuters and other news media obtained Tuesday, said such fears were driving a resurgence in "recruitment and radicalization activity" by white supremacist groups, antigovernment extremists and militia movements. It did not identify any by name.

DHS had no specific information about pending violence and said threats had so far been "largely rhetorical."

But it warned that home foreclosures, unemployment and other consequences of the economic recession "could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists."

"To the extent that these factors persist, right-wing extremism is likely to grow in strength," DHS said.

The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society.

Yea, this forum doesn't seem to get much traction yet. That link did read kind of boiler-plate but I do like the idea that they are least taking notice.

We just have to hope that this can be taken to the streets if necessary...without marshall law.

pahunkboy -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/14/2009 2:51:21 PM)

gosh- the report is only 8 years too late.

where was this info when Bush was elected?

all these silly reports- I doubt they are taken seriously by law enforcement.

i think it's sad that such people gain strength by appealing to the less intelligent and rational members of society.  As far as those that are fearful and full of vitriol because of the President's race...seperating the wheat from the chaff as far as i'm concerned.  They aren't functioning or worthwhile members of society anyway.

Why wouldn't white supremacist groups and extremists try take advantage of the current economic crisis?  It's worked in the past. They're just trying to take a page out of history.

It was a manufactured consensus, a propaganda construct, with repression of political opponents, "racial enemies" and other outsiders to the proclaimed "national community" as the other side of the coin. The "superman" image of Hitler amounted to the central component of the fabrication.

i just hope people are able to tell the difference between these hate-mongers and extremists...and regular conservatives; people that love this nation, have no interest in such foolishness.  Not all right-wingers extreme right-wingers.

I'll give this as much thought, and as much credibility, as the "MJ-12" documents.

DomKen -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/14/2009 5:38:13 PM)

Remember the worst act of domestic terrorism before 9/11?

kittinSol -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/14/2009 5:41:14 PM)

OCB?

thornhappy -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/14/2009 5:50:30 PM)

Yep.

What's kind of a hoot is that this paper was written during the Bush administration.

And prior fans of DHS, illegal wiretapping, et al would always say is "You don't have to worry about anything if you have nothing to hide."

TheHeretic -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/14/2009 7:24:38 PM)

Your link isn't working for me, Sanity, but I'll grant there is some level of threat.  All the whacko racists and nazis didn't vanish when President Obama won the election.  They will go recruiting.  If the economy sucks ass, they'll have lots of angry people, who feel helpless, to try and convert.  The tricky part, is that publicly proclaiming them a threat will only feed the paranoia that is their best tool for that.

Mock, and marginalize.  What the actual conservatives need to do is make sure nobody thinks the extremists are speaking for them.

Yes,that would be the genocide of the native americans I guess.

Here's another link to the same document, Rich.

servantforuse -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/15/2009 6:32:46 AM)

Thia just happened to come to light a day before the tea parties and tax protests that will happen around the country today. The democrats have a tax problem, and it is not only republicans that will be protesting. Janet Napolitano would have us believe it is all 'right wing radicals'.

kittinSol -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/15/2009 6:35:31 AM)

That link's broken as well, Sanity. It looks like this document is beyond elusive.

Is that actually a correct timeline....or ,and I'm just asking here(having the same trouble with the link as others)did sanity just happen to post the day before the tea parties and tax protests were scheduled.By the way where was all the right wing outrage during Bush's administration....surely there was a tax code in place at the time?

Sanity -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/15/2009 10:17:26 AM)

The link just worked for me kitten. It's a pdf that seems to be very memory intensive, a government document that's been recently declassified and now says it's for official use only, yet it's been disseminated to law enforcement agencies all across the US.

Basically it suggests that Conservatives are racists who are becoming increasingly pissed off about higher taxes, immigration, gun rights, and a variety of other issues... and that Veterans are liable to join up with such "Right Wing Extremists" as gun rights advocates, advocates of smaller government, etc, and (supposedly) commit acts of terror. And it's impossible that this report was prepared under the Bush administration, because it makes several references to the "recent historical election" being a major cause for of all these loony right wing groups to come together and rally around.

It's really quite Nixonian.

Sanity -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/15/2009 10:36:53 AM)

There's a link to the PDF and an informative article here as well.

philosophy -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/15/2009 10:40:47 AM)

Well, it's not impossible that the document was begun under the Bush administration and finished under Obama's. Anyway, the link worked for me and i found it a fascinating read.
Now, no political position is immune to extremism. Even right wingers can have a loony fringe, and the document seemed to me to try to describe how that might work.
It reminded me of stuff that happened in the 70's in the UK. Just as advocates of smaller government are identified in this document as a potential source of domestic terrorism, so was CND identified by MI5 in the 70's. The truth is that these sort of political pressure groups can easily be infiltrated by extremists. Quite frankly it's revolution 101 for such people.

Sanity -> RE: Homeland Security Warns Of Rightwing Radicals (4/15/2009 10:56:55 AM)

Admittedly, there is some mention in different news circles that the good folks at "Homeland Security" have looked into left wing radicalism a bit as well, but I'm still studying the issue. Like you, I think this is some interesting stuff - however things may ultimately fall.
