Oh, believe Me.  If I paid for two, I'd get two.  LOL.
[/quotePerhaps your "pet" might use the other one?

LadyPact -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/16/2009 11:59:46 AM)

In honesty, if My "pet" were going anywhere with Me, it would be more likely that I would drive, if possible.  The cost of the seats would be nothing compared to how much I'd probably be charged for baggage if I wanted to bring the toys.  [8D]

They've made the seats smaller, and now they complain that they'll have to charge more for people too large to fit in their dinky seats.[sm=banghead.gif][sm=frown.gif]

(Thank god they still make the Crown Royal the same size as before).

Delta has started charging for checking ANY bags now as well. >:( The first one is no longer free.

Well, of course.

Do you have any idea of the burden the airlines have had being forced to transport not just all these people but their clothes and personal items as well?

servantforuse -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/16/2009 8:40:18 PM)

My brother has a Cessna 182 and is now instrument rated. We get the plane ready, file a flight plan, pull the Cessna out of the hanger and take off. We went on 6 flights last year, 3 in Wis. and 3 around the country...It's the only way to go..

But they don't *give* you two, LP...

That's the second time you've made that claim, and the article in the OP shows it's false.  If no empty seat is available (for the large person to spill over into), United bumps the passenger to another flight.

Well, it's happened to me twice (where I had to buy a second seat because I was too tall to sit with my legs straight, in one instance, or too large, in the second), but I've never ridden United, so that's likely why I've never been bumped to another flight.

Even if I had, I don't see why *that* would be an acceptable solution either. You're making me pay for two seats *and* not giving me the choice of my flight? I'd rather be forced to pay for two, not get two, and go on the flight of my choice (usually I pick them based on time)!

LadyPact -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/16/2009 11:34:36 PM)

Perhaps it's because of the fact that I don't fly very often.  I wasn't kidding about preferring to drive because of the toys.

I suppose My follow up question would be, if you are a person of size, couldn't you buy two tickets to begin with, seated together, so being bumped wouldn't happen?

aravain -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/16/2009 11:40:52 PM)

Most places I've flown with won't let you do that, actually, because they don't want to guarantee you any seats till the day *of* the flight (understandably so), so while I may have purchased two seats ahead of time, there's not assurance they'll be anywhere near each other, and if they're not they'll try to make you pay for an extra (third) seat for taking up so much room (they tried to do this to my mother, who wouldn't stand for it... she ended up going on that trip for free because, really, that was the icing on the cake for a bad experience).

Lets be perfectly clear, here, too... I may be riding semi-good airlines (continental and a couple others that my 2:30am head can't remember), but these are the cheapest of the cheap seats in the flight... it'd be quieter and more pleasant if they just stuck me in the damned engine on some of the planes. I've never ridden at the mysterious front of the plane!

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/17/2009 4:30:15 AM)

That mysterious front of the plane sometimes only cost an extra $40 or $50 bucks, and has a lot more room.

Those seats are the hardest to get: you need to blow the entire crew to get them (not that I would know about this personally, of course) .

CruelNUnsual -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/17/2009 2:57:01 PM)

There was one report of someone who purchased and got 2 seats. But they werent next to each other!

Its bs. Seats have definitely gotten narrower on at least some planes, and then they want to charge double. Kinda like credit card companies lowering your limit to an amount below your balance and then raising your interest rate and charging over limit penalties.

Now i am by no way shape or form a small woman but when my sister whos 120 pounds cant fit into a regular airline seat... Theres an issue. they make the seats on most planes about 32 inches wide... average womans hips are 36 average males are 34... i see hmmmm a 4 to 2 inch difference.  and dont even get started on peoples hips who are widerer due to child birth

BlackPhx -> RE: Yet Another Airline Fee... (4/17/2009 3:28:56 PM)

Actually Cagey Airlines put a lot of hype out that isn't true and often have a take it or leave it attitude towards their passengers. You might want to check out http://www.flyersrights.org/ and http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=102982061 for some of the current battles going on and the difference between what Airlines say and what they deliver. If even ONE person was required to buy two seats because of their size and were not given two seats together or even GIVEN 2 seats, then that puts lie to that airlines claims no matter what Legal says.

That's puzzling because kazza also has very wide hips but has never had trouble fitting into an airplane seat.

At Airtran and Delta both I usually upgrade at check in. Never had a problem upgrading before.

This fee, and the subject has been talked to death ad infinitum on collar me months ago and is now *hopefully* a dead horse, and won't be talked to double death again.
