Daddysredhead -> RE: Bush Approved Use of Insects in al-Qaeda Interrogations (4/17/2009 9:47:10 PM)

Owner, I know many who are high-ranking who oppose torture per se  in the war arena.  I don't think that they are wrong.  I would prefer that it didn't happen to anyone, in any country's army, etc.  People don't usually say, "I think torture is great, we need more of it in our wars."  However, to comment on the specific use of a caterpillar on the POW mentioned in the article, I don't think it equates to the things that have been linked to throughout this thread.  Would it cause anxiety/panic in the phobic person?  Most probably yes.  In my opinion, that particular action does not equate with torture.

If that is the case, by definition, I have been tortured by spiders and other creepy crawlies dangled in my general direction by my next generation people, who stand there and squeal in delight at my hysterics.

I'm pretty sure you're making that up, mike.

Or someone at the DailyKOS made it up for you.

Besides, how could the president persecute his political opponents without putting the "guilty" agents at the CIA on (show) trial as well.

For putting a bug in a box.

Once he did that the CIA would treat him like a mushroom, feed him bullshit and disinformation and thereby destroy him... and possibly even start a civil war. You think there's hate for Obama's socialist policies now, just let him begin putting Conservatives on trial and see what happens.

Don`t seek justice.....or else.....Don`t follow the law or cons will throw a tantrum....

What else is new?....

What are they going to do or say that they haven`t already?

Succeed?

lol

sanity,I don't read the DailyKos...and I don't make shit up.....and no one would be charged for putting a bug in a box. Here's what you do sanity, simply google "Obama on prosecuting for torture"...all the information is there from multiple sources.
The reasoning behind not prosecuting agents is actually very sound....the agents were operating under some flawed interpatation of the law....supplied by Bush Lawyers at Justice, those are the people who might find themselves targets of an investigation....not the worker bees who were led down the garden path by  the likes of  Gonzales and Yoo .
The charge's ,if any ,would have little to do with a "bug in a box" and everything to do with twisting our laws into knots to meet their needs.

Your fantasies of rounding up your political opponents for show trials, were they to become reality, wouldn't be "justice" and such efforts therefore wouldn't be met as such.

Sanity -> RE: Bush Approved Use of Insects in al-Qaeda Interrogations (4/18/2009 5:36:44 AM)

I Googled it, mike -  and the only thing that came up was some garbage from the DailyKOS and some other garbage from Oberman's rubber room sanatorium.

Sanity -> RE: Bush Approved Use of Insects in al-Qaeda Interrogations (4/18/2009 8:15:11 AM)

I Googled your words "The President left open the option of prosecuting those higher up the food chain and those that wrote the opinions" and the top hits showed that you lifted them essentially word for word off of the "DailyKOS" website. However, the search term you're suggesting now doesn't have any good, relevant matches. There was something from January on the far left website CBS "News" that said something to the effect that Obama hadn't decided anything in this regard last January, as he was taking office. But there's nothing else even close to what you are claiming.

Oh and hey - good morning to you too, mike. Spring here is a good wet one, a little slow in coming but I thing it's finally quit freezing at night and the blooms are on the apricot trees. I'm about 50 feet from a peregrine falcon nest with a mama and two eggs, watching the male bring breakfast to her in the form of a pigeon carcass...

In about another month I'll be able to watch both of them harvesting pigeons over downtown Boise and feed them to their chicks

Yeah, it's a great day here. Sun's shining, the air is crisp, the flowers are blooming. No, these almost magical spring moments don't escape my notice.

The falcons have their own live web cam, by the way - if you're interested.

mms://webcast2.fiberpipe.tv/falconcam_live

(Cut and paste it into your browser, then have it open in a media player, preferably Windows Media Player).

Read the quote released by his office...to paraphrase he said his administration would not seek to prosecute CIA operatives who were led down this mery path by Bush's handpicked crack legal advisors.Read between the lines there...the door is wide open to prosecute the lawyers who drafted the whacky opinions.
Certainly the President didn't say this issue wasn't worht persuing ,as you implied....just that it might be counter-productive to do so.
Now as I said earlier it is a beautiful day....I don't think I want too spend anymore of it splitting hairs with you.

Lucylastic -> RE: Bush Approved Use of Insects in al-Qaeda Interrogations (4/18/2009 8:31:25 AM)

thanks for the link Sanity, I love peregrines:) The fact that they have adapted to city life is wonderful, Ive bookmarked the page
In the middle of the city, I only have blue jays, cardinals, coal tits and squirrels but they get a lot of attention from me right now.
I love spring

Yeah, you can quit "splitting hairs" now, mike. Go out and have some fun...

These birds are awesome. They scream and dive at me when I'm on the roof here... they're really bad to the bone. The Boise area is well known for two very prominent raptor conservancy programs, and the programs are well supported and funded.

Going sanity, and while I'm gone you can try to figure out how an assertion that he won't seek to prosecute agents is a blanket promise not to prosecute the architects of such heinous policies....ta ta my conservative friend.
