Mwright -> branding (4/17/2009 1:07:44 PM)

Master told me at the beginning of our relationship that when i was ready to be branded, to let him know. i'm ready but i want to do something special to let him know. any ideas?

pettitoes -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 1:10:34 PM)

My idea is that being branded is a bad idea.  It is dangerous, and you are a submissive; not livestock.

Domin8tingUrDrmz -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 1:12:00 PM)

I'm half asleep, and when I am sleepy, I'm mushy.

Personally, I would love it if someone I owned were to have a romantic dinner waiting for me, while in the attire I prefer (rope), kneel down before me and say "I would love to receive your mark, please Ma'am, brand me so I may forever be reminded of you ownership of me".

Simple, sweet, and oh so yummy to hear something like that.

If I were more awake, I could probably think of a few more special things to do to let him know - but, as I said, I'm sleepy and mushy right now ...good luck.

dreamerdreaming -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 1:29:33 PM)

Whats wrong with kneeling before him?

SteelofUtah -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 1:36:15 PM)

Ahhhh The Brand.

Okay things you should know.

1) It HURTS like HELL. and the pain Takes a while to go away because of this the Butt is a BAD place for it. Hips below the waist line are usually best.

2) Brands are Forever where as most BDSM relationships are not. That being said the Brand cannot be covered up or altered like a Tattoo can. A Brand will show through no matter what is done and depending on how deep the brand is taken could leave a raised scar of nearly a 1/4 inch.

3) Brands are hard to keep clean and can get infected if your movement caused the cartirzation (SP?) to break and an infection could be created

4) Branding by the Unskilled could cause Muscular Branding which can cause SERIOUS problems, If you have the ability to go to a professional Brander I would they use Striking Irons and CartPens.

Finally,

HOW LONG HAVE YOU TWO BEEN TOGETHER?

Like I said a Brand is FOREVER CANNOT BE REMOVED, plastic Surgury can do a Skin Graff like if you were a burn Victim however usually because the brand has healed and scar tissue has been created beneath the brand most plastic surgeons will charge an assload.

Like with anything if you waited this long you can wait a little longer to think through the reality of what you are getting into.

As for a Nice way of telling him..........

Do it while naked.... everything sounds better while comeing from a naked sub.

I disagree.  This is one of my hubby's favorite kinks.  We frequently play with cautery pens, and are getting ready to do some strike branding.  Hubby says it's an amazing endorphin rush.  He's not so happy about the week or so after, but sometimes we have to pay for our fun.

Branding isn't for everyone, certainly.  With a top who is competent in this, it's really not a dangerous thing to do.  There are definitely risks involved, but there are quite a few kinks that are more risky.

I disagree as well. Branding is a valid body mod technique. I have brands on my forearms done by a cauterizing pen. My girl has strike brands on her forearms. I know many who have brands.

allthatjaz -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 3:16:42 PM)

Branding when done properly hardly hurts at all. It feels like a tight pinch of the skin and the pain is immediately gone after. You may get a mild itching of the skin about 3 days after.
I have had six hot iron brands. Steve has also had six.
Keep the scar fine by using a very thin piece of metal to make the brand. About as thin as the tin on a baked bean can. The scar will treble in width and so anything thicker than that is going to just look like a smudge. The only way its not going to really hurt is to make sure the metal is red hot.
Depending on where you have it will scar differently. If you have it on your shoulders, back or most upper parts of the body it will usually indent and go white after a time. On lower parts of the body it can become raised and is usually red.
A brand can take up to a year to fully develop.
Steve and myself took time to design the brands we wanted. We came up with something abstract that suited us both. After a couple of years you can have colors put into it by a professional tattooist and these sort of brands look amazing.

If you know what the mark is, why don't you draw it onto your skin and during a romantic moment show it to him and whisper 'I would love this to be more permanent'

Let us know how it goes

subangi -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 3:17:46 PM)

Ok,  maybe this isnt appropriate, but I have to share this story.
I have a friend who loves being branded.  She has many, but sad to say most look like a blob of healed flesh rather than the detailed outline that was shaped by the metal used.  I asked next time she was to be branded, if she could come over so I could see.
She had her calf wrapped with tribal signs and with the initial sizzle,  my dogs who were sleeping  jumped up and began sniffing and salivating....they were smelling BBQ!!!
It was funny,  but the sad part of this, is that she got a bad cellulitis in her leg that bought her a few days of IV antibiotics at the hospital.

The part about the dogs really made us laugh [:D]
The first time I branded someone it was in my kitchen and everyone came in because they thought i was cooking bacon!

On a serious not regarding the cellulitis. Was an area left to supply blood to the skin? One of the rules of branding is that you must not close in an area of skin with a brand as that bit won't have a proper blood supply and could die.

I also think its important, especially if your doing a hot steel brand, that you know what your doing, what can go wrong and how to get the best possible results. It sounds like your friend was randomly branding without understanding how a brand heals.

QFT. (That's "Quoted For Truth")

Assuming you, Mwright, have researched this thoroughly (or otherwise acknowledge how much you know/care to know), do you still want to continue? Branding is not a one way ticket to painful infection and amputation, but it's also not a stamp.

Additional advice: If you can choose the brand, use something simple, with thin metal. Make sure you have a bit (no sense paying for a root canal when you clench so hard you chip your teeth). And also something to restrict your movement.

Since all you asked for was "how do I make is special?" and not to be judged about your binding, your relationship, or your body modifications, I apologize on behalf of CM... But we judge because we care <3.

I suggest, warning: it's carnal... I suggest taking a facial after a blowjob and telling him how much you like him marking his territory... and how you're ready for a permanent mark.

Big Yep on that.  Hubby's strike brand didn't hurt at all the day he got it or the day after, but the third day - when the nerve endings that had been burnt off woke back up - he was totally miserable.  Constant, throbbing, intense pain for days.  The cautery pen brands hurt right away and keep hurting for a few days, but it's not the serious pain of the strike brand.

A brand may be forever, or it may fade away pretty quickly.  It depends on the brandee's skin type, general health, aftercare, the brander's style, the temperature of the implement...  Hubby's a fair-skinned scandahoovian type, and they don't tend to scar much and don't often get raised scars.  His strike brand was virtually invisible after about 3 years.  The only burns he's gotten that have made raised scars are from moxa or cigarettes, and even those fade eventually on him.  The strike and cautery brands are red for a while after they heal, then white, then most of them fade away and are nearly invisible.  Those on his chest seem to fade about twice as fast as those on his butt.

For other folks, a brand may indeed be forever.  It may also get really deformed and ugly - I've seen some strike brands that looked fine at first but turned into big blobs of discolored scar tissue as they healed.  One can look at the way one has healed from other burns and wounds to get an idea how one's body might react to a brand, but brands can be unpredictable.

3) Brands are hard to keep clean and can get infected if your movement caused the cartirzation (SP?) to break and an infection could be created.

I haven't found that they're any tougher to take care of than any other kind of wound.  The problem is that if you want the marks to last, you have to treat them rather badly - don't use first aid cream, don't cover them, let them get scabby then scub off the scabs and let them scab over again, that kind of thing.

4) Branding by the Unskilled could cause Muscular Branding which can cause SERIOUS problems, If you have the ability to go to a professional Brander I would they use Striking Irons and CartPens.

Yup, you definitely want someone who knows what they're doing.  I saw pictures on BME of a brand on a fellow's calf that went disastrously wrong.  Huge gaping wound.  I'm sure he ended up in the ER.

Having said that, when hubby and I gave a cautery pen demo I invited folks to come give it a try.  The group made a really neat design on his rump - everyone who wanted to added a new line or curve.  Cautery pens are pretty easy to deal with *if* you have a bit of clue about how it works.  There's really nothing analogous to human flesh to practice on, so it's not really a skill many folks can pick up through books or websites.  You have to learn from someone who knows what they're doing.

she had a gauze wrap on while at work , and i think she kept unwrapping and rewrapping it to show people, thus inviting germs.  The tribal was more of a stencil and so there was plenty of blood supply room.

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. Fortunatly, there are a great many who disagree with you.

I have several brands that were done more than 15 years ago...mmmmmmmmmmmyummy....I can still feel the pain from the burns [:D]

LPslittleclip -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 7:02:57 PM)

the brand and how it is applied is a subject to be discussed with your Master. strike brands kill a lot of tissue and do not have a lot of definition. cautery pens work well and can have amazing detail. further a thick coat hanger made in the shape of the brand and set in boiling water can leave a nice mark and not destroy tissue.
if you kneel before your master with the brand in your hand presenting it to him would be good.

ExKat -> RE: branding (4/17/2009 8:40:07 PM)

Since you're of an age that you couldn't possibly have been with your dom for more than a couple of years, I urge you to reconsider. As the others have said, brands are forever. If you're not ready to marry this dude, then you aren't ready to have his stamp on you forever. However, I'm generally too cautious for most types of body mods. If you've already got a tramp stamp and a Winnie the Pooh tat on your ankle, then why not? You'll already look silly when you're 70, might as well add another mark.

Thats just your opinion though. My gran is in her 80s and has tats that she's still proud of. Maybe other people think she looks 'silly' but so long as she is happy eh?
