Yes, I asked for an open relationship once.  Not to just go and sleep with people all of the time, just so when I was in the mood for a man and not a woman, I could have one person I went to.  That pretty much ended everything there, it was never the same again.  I can understand that now, it was actually a very selfish thing for me to desire.

nee

hi nee  :)

i don't particularly find this all that selfish really.  if you wanted it and asked, how is that selfish?  *excuse me Master, i would like .... an open relationship ... pancakes instead of eggs for breakfast ... to use Verizon instead of AT&T ... a sister for us ... etc.

when i met Daunt and we talked and learned of each other, as part of that learning process He learned i love/crave stranger-sex (every once in while), and pain (often  ).  It's been a year now of building our relationship and i felt it time to bring up stranger-sex again.  how is that selfish?  we talked and did what works for us.  as to finding a sadist, we talked, and we're still working through that one.

i don't find the asking selfish.  as to the OP just as to nee, i suppose there are questions that would kill a relationship, but honestly at this point i can't think of one.  what's wrong with asking?  it's how you ask, how its heardwhether or not you listen to the answer and hear the answer whether you like it or not, those types of things, that kills something in the relationship ....... i think.

i'll repost after i think on it some more if i change my mind.

Killers:

'Honey don't you think you should get an STD panel done at the doctors today even though we've been married 5 years and monogamous?'

'Do you consider if cheating if someone has sex outside the marriage and keeps their eyes closed?'

'Why is the trunk covered in blood??'

Damagers:

'Do you really think you deserve someone as special as I am?'

Sure there are questions that can rock or destroy the trust in a relationship.

Of course there are.

Are there any questions Y'all can think of,  that  JUST by asking it ..... it would or could kill or damage a relationship?.....
Now before Y'all say "no, of course not" think about it....
(a personal example, i asked my VERY vanilla husband if i could get into this lifestyle and have a "D" type in my life. My husband said yes we talked, and all is ok. However.... a friend of mine said just ASKING that of her husband would have ended their marriage)

I don't think it's selfish to ask for a need either, and I agree it's how the question is asked when it's asked why it's asked and do you listen to the reply and honestly hear it and not just shine it off.

Here's a question that might just kill a relationship,  Would you please pack your things and  move out of my house, since I don't want you under my roof any more.

It can be selfish.
If you know that you're asking something they simply don't have in them to provide yet ask anyway.

i agree camille.... its one thing if it was known before the relationship or even in the very beginning, but if its a new "need".... then i think the ASKER should think long and hard about what, where, why, and how this new "need" is so important to them and if the said new "need" is worth the possible consequences of the asking.

If my bitch said the same thing with a teasing tone and cheesy smile.......she'd still be my bitch. Cuz I KNOW, she was just joking around.

I guess if you know they can't provide it, then it can be selfish. But then you have to decide if the need they can't or won't provide is so important you'll stay or leave. And you  know I know a little bit about that one lol.

The simple answer is, "of course". In my experience, people will end even long-lasting relationships over the smallest of things. Of course, when that happens, it's a pretty good indication that the relationship wasn't really worth all that much to whoever did the "ending". In my marriage, I cannot concieve of any question I could ask that would summarily end our marriage. Frankly, there's a pretty limited list of things I might DO that would end our marriage instantly. Then again, we both place A LOT of value on our marriage.

Sure, questions can kill or damage a relationship.  I agree that the context, the motivation, the intent, and the way in which the question is asked matters a great deal.

Killers that I can think of:

God honey, why is your sister sooooo much sexier and prettier than you are?

Honey, I know its' our 10th anniversary but Bubba really needs me to help him with putting up his big screen T.V. tonight sooooo... can we put the anniversary plans off until the weekend?

Damagers:

Jesus Joe Bob, do you know that when seen from this angle, your ass crack actually looks bigger than pics I've seen of the Grand Canyon?

(damager with context)Sir, when I first became your submissive, you promised you'd fulfill my need for stranger-sex.  When you do that, could you make sure that he's bigger than you and can last longer?  Thank you, Sir.
