No correct answers so far (been awhile since one went by that no one got, so I figured I'd throw in a REALLY obscure one)

So, as it is a bit obscure I will give a hint.

The two "factions" are known as the "Clans" and the "Inner Sphere"
And a number of Computer Games share their name with this Role Playing Game

Current Question
While Dungeons and Dragons is the most popular game of its type, it is certainly not the only one.  This similar game (though using a different rule set) set beyond the year 3,000 is related to the Tabletop Strategy game "Battletech", and has many science fiction novels centered around it.  What is the name of the Roleplaying version of this game?

From the history of haggis website:

The French word ‘Hachis’ means minced meat, and it was meat from the wee creatures that was in the sheep’s stomach the Scotsman was boiling, so from then on the wee creatures were called Haggis, as were the food parcels.

warcraft?

Very close Igor, "Battledroids" was "Battletech's" name in Japan, however it is not the name of the DNDish Role Playing Game

as it is a bit obscure I will give a hint.

I couldn't find a link to any site that definitively proves the origin of haggis except for references to ancient rome, so will withdraw my challenge.

Shadowrun was at one time owned by the same company who later sold it to WizKids

Chicago-based FASA Corporation's original, 1984 BattleTech game focuses on enormous robotic, semi-humanoid battle machines called BattleDroids.[3] Their name was changed to BattleMechs in the second edition because George Lucas and Lucasfilm held the rights to the term "droid." The visual design of the earliest line of BattleMechs were taken from Macross and other anime, including many signature images.

BKSir got it right.
"MechWarrior" is one of the 5 largest franchies in Science Fiction with a Role Playing Game, dozens of novels, and over a Dozen computer games.  It differs from its brother "Battletech" in that Battletech focuses on table-top strategy gaming, instead of indepth role-playing.  The rights to MechWarrior were sold by FASA to its current owner, "WizKids"
