OMG - please kill this thread now - it just keeps getting dumber and dumber-er....

OK, we get it - it sucks that gays cannot marry and enjoy all the legal benefits thereof. But the arguments are getting so far off point.

Dream - kick back with a beer and some Allman Brothers. Despite California and Prop 8, the country is very slowly shifting to a more liberal/tolerant point of view. The Christian right IS becoming irrelavant. Really. I promise. Very few changes of this sort happen over night. Change will come, it is the only true constant in the universe.

First of all... your fact is what's known in most circles as "an opinion."  Secondly... taking up arms for gay marriage would never work... thinking it would is just strait up retarded.  And what you are advocating sounds a lot like terrorism... somebody who uses violence and guerrilla tactics to attack a state because they disagree with their politics... you are in the wrong when you bring up violence, and it undermines every other one of your points.

tazzygirl -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/27/2009 11:23:09 PM)

talk to people who were children during the depression, they still have no faith in banks and will often keep their money at home.  you are butting heads against these people.. people who grew up in the ozzy and harriet days...

just as much as you believe you are right.. so do they.  but, i can assure you, taking the "not so nice" path will only fuel their arguments and make your path even harder.

I guess I'm not as optimistic. I see a shift to the conservative, not the liberal, on a national scale. It depresses me. It angers me.

Actually, no, it's an easily provable fact that gay marriage has no effect on the religious right. Straight people aren't affected by gay marriage at all, ergo it has no effect on them. It doesn't apply to them. It's just like how women's right to vote has no effect on men. See how that works? Easily proven.

tazzygirl -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/27/2009 11:29:45 PM)

women's right to vote can infact make a huge effect on men and the society.

i would love to see your provable facts

nelly33 -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/27/2009 11:31:40 PM)

ummm... womens right to vote DID effect men... because otherwise only the candidates men wanted to win would win, but women have an effect on elections.... ergo, women's rights to vote DO effect men... geez

...as i understand it six states in the US allow same sex marriage. 20 years ago none did. Tell me how this represents a shift to an anti-gay mind set?

20 years ago a gay character in a sitcom was unthinkable. This is no longer true. 20 years ago a singer who came out as gay would lose record sales. This is no longer true.

There has been significent progress in the right direction. It is important to recognise this. It is equally important to recognise there is still progress to be made, true, but your confrontational attitude and ill-considered remarks are not part of the solution. They're part of the problem.

i get why you're angry. A thread you started elsewhere clarifies that. But you're doing nothing useful with that anger...instead you're letting it alienate people. Prop 8 is a horrible thing...but the appropriate response is not to climb up a church tower with a rifle.  Try listening to people, instead of thinking those who support Prop 8 as bigots, ask them why they support it..........suppress your urge to try to change their mind. Instead consider their position. Put yourself in their shoes......then imagine what steps would move them away from that position. Then you have a strategy that might work.

And to dreamgoddess, freedom is DEFINED by the people. It is an oxymoron to say that the majority cant trump freedom.

Was slavery okay, therefore, as long as the majority wanted it?

The government has no capacity or right to decide what is moral or right, only what is legal.
No one has a right to be married. No matter who you are.

FR reply here...

10,000 years of human history back up marriage between a man and a woman.

And how many thousands of years does human history point to the world being flat? Is time to be the criteria to decide right and wrong? By that logic, the world is still flat.

6,000 years ago or so the Sumerians knew about the solar system and most of what we do now. From them to us we have went back-wards.

Once again I state that homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals, not separate but equal, just plain equal.
A homosexual male can marry the same female as a heterosexual one can, and vice versa for lesbian women marrying men.
What homosexuals really want is the true definition of "seperate but equal".

How so? Legalized same sex marriage- Any heterosexual male can marry the same male as a homosexual one can, and vice vera for hetero women marrying women. Still sounds equal to me.
Hint: If this sounds stupid to you, read your post again. [8|]

Ugh, replying to an argument that nonsensical was actually painful. [>:]

FR:

" said 1 evangelical to another in heaven. shoosh do you hear that? What said the other evangelical in reply. You mean that? Yes that. Oh that is the heavenly sounds of a same sex couple being joined as ONE through marriage, you know Holy Matrimony. How did they get in here asked the evangelical who was so inquisitive in asking. Replied the other evangelical "Love let em in" which was met with " You mean we were wrong? "

I wish you well,

Do you respect the marriages of other religions…will then lets have a homosexual religion…make it tax except then let them marry other gays. This makes as much sense as your marriage and religion argument.

Butch

Butch, we already have gay churches where gays can go and get married. It is not legally recognized by the state, but they can have a ceramony and a minister just like any other church wedding.
