In fact, at best all you have shown is that same sex relationships were tolerated in extreme situations and or cult worship.
living as male and male, and female to female living as female and female marriage is unknown in 10,000 years of Human Civilization.

i dont think anyone has said.. at least that i can remember.. on this thread.. that gay marriages should be banned.  having said that, wouldnt a more diplomatic way of achieving the end result be more beneficial?

just to blow a few minds, Native Tribes went so far as to recognize transgender individuals.  if a child displayed the desires to play with toys of the opposite sex, they were given a test to determine how to proceed with the child's rearing.  seems to be a bit more than just mild tolerance, no?  hardly an extreme situation... and clearly not a cult.

Yeah, cuz that's SO much better than getting you Christians to pull your heads out of your rears and see that there's nothing wrong with being gay.

LadyMayhem -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/28/2009 2:07:10 PM)

Gee..seeing as killing just to have your way seems okay to some of you, perhaps, seeing as there are now more women than men, the women should start a revolution "at the end of a gun" to take over the entire government!! What a bunch of bs.

good way to get your point across, insulting those that disagree with you... mature as well.  for somebody who supports gay rights so much, i would think that you would be a little more tolerant of other's beliefs.

I vote for both...everyone AND noone.

As it stands right now...homosexuals CAN get married anywhere in the country. Nothing is stopping them from having a ceremony in the manner of their choosing. The thing is getting the government to recognize those marriages.

Personally I'm all for justt getting the federal government out of marriage altogether as well. Many of the government given benefits for marriage are outdated or need reworked anyways...so just rework them so that marriage isn't a requirement for getting those benefits.

Then let people do what they want, like it should be...and meanwhile us Christians don't have to deal with the government making laws in support of sin.

Freedom for everyone without stepping on anyone's toes...seems like a win/win.

Going to have to get the restaurants out of the the business of supporting sin also.  Can't have that shellfish, or ham, god forbid you want a bacon cheeseburger, or shrimp alfredo... the mixing of meats and dairy.

No sex with your girlfriend/wife while it's her time of the month either..

And get rid of those credit cards, home loans, car loans, etc...  Borrowing and lending money is an abomination too.

Unless one is a devout orthodox Jew who lives entirely by Levitican Law, I think one has NO right to even try to use it as an argument.

God didn't come back later in the bible and say "Hm, wait, no, let's go through... this one is a good law, keep it, but ham... you can have that, it's fine.  Oh, and can I borrow 5 scheckels?"  In fact, if you want to get technical about it, all of the "old laws" were abolished in God's eyes and word and he delivered a new set of laws unto mankind.  Oddly enough, homosexuality isn't considered a sin amongst them.

As far as getting government out of marriage... I think the opposite.  Get church out of it.  Marriage is nothing but a contract for incorproation and has always been there as such, even in your precious bible.  ESPECIALLY there.  The selling and buying of daughters, dowries, etc.  Wives and daughters as pure property to be bought, sold, killed at a whim.  Your bible LOVES that kind of thing, the law doesn't so much...Or is that what you're going for?

There's a reason that any Justice of the Peace, ships captain, mayor, whatever can perform a wedding.  Doesn't require a minister.  Although my commitment cerimony had two ministers that said my partner and I are married in the eyes of god.  Those damned sinner baptist ministers.  I tell ya.

BKSir -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/28/2009 2:41:16 PM)

Actually, I'm glad it got voted in, and that the Calif. court upheld it.  It will end up at the US supreme court, which will overturn it, on cases such as Loving v. VA, Lawrence v. TX, Brown v. Board of Education and a case in CO within the last 10 or so years that I can't remember the name right off.  All four cases stating that it is illegal to use the law to single out any group of people for discrimination.  At which point the fight is over.  I don't view it as a step back at all, but a strategic loss, which is very different than a defeat.

nelly33 -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/28/2009 2:49:39 PM)

i would probably argue that brown v. board doesn't really apply, for a number of reasons you personally may not agree with, but there could def. be a legal case be made for.  things are always much more explosive when children are involved, and that was a case of being physically separate but equal being the issue... not in a more abstract concept such as marriage v. unions.  also, precedent by lower courts in not a definate that the supreme court will overrule, although with the new nomination of Sonia Sotomayor, it will probably be easier to get a gay friendly ruling than in the past.  remember though, for right or wrong, many politicians and judges do use god in their rulings... we swear on the bible in court don't forget.
again, i have never meant to argue that i think gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, i am just saying that it may be a reality for some time.... unless of course we "take up arms" [8|]

Yep, and the millions of non-gay people who support gay marriage count for fuck all, of course [8|] .

"Separate but equal", I ask you... what a load of bollocks [sm=rofl.gif] .

Can a gay man marry a woman, yes or no? Can a lesbian marry a man, yes or no?

Are they seeking special privilege to marry the same sex, yes or no?

Face the facts, homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals, but seek special rights that are different than what heterosexuals are granted...What would YOU call it?

Once again I state that homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals, not separate but equal, just plain equal.

A homosexual male can marry the same female as a heterosexual one can, and vice versa for lesbian women marrying men.

What homosexuals really want is the true definition of "seperate but equal".

What a jackass. It's people like you that piss people like me off so much.

Whaaaaa, I want my cake and eat it too....[:o]

It's people like YOU who think that because you're different, you deserve to be treated special, and thats bullshit.

The only response I can even think of to even justify a response to this is, "You just made my brain hurt."  No, literally, I read this and I could actually FEEL my brain pulsing and trying to comprehend the utter stupidity of this overall statement.  It gave up and went back to thinking again.

I think overreacting to a blatant issue of outright discrimination is a bit more comprehensible than the discrimination itself.

She's obviously riled up pretty good about it, but when it comes to basic civil liberties such as these (the kind any remotely civilized populace should accept), it's not as if I don't understand some people being extensively upset over the ethical hypocrisy surrounding the issue.

Oppression inevitably leads to some anger-ridden thoughts. While I don't necessarily favor the rashness of her words throughout the entire thread, let's not miss the forest for the trees.

That's the most ridiculous deconstruction of a premise I've read in quite some time.

Surely, with that logic, you support fixed marriages?
