Then let people do what they want, like it should be...and meanwhile us Christians don't have to deal with the government making laws in support of sin.

Freedom for everyone without stepping on anyone's toes...seems like a win/win.

Yeah, cuz that's SO much better than getting you Christians to pull your heads out of your rears and see that there's nothing wrong with being gay.

Dammit DreamGoddess...how the hell do you expect others to respect you and afford you equal treatment when you turn around and blast others for their faith?  You sit there and bitch about the gays being treated unfairly yet you turn right around and blast out your prejudicial views towards a group based upon their faith. You have to get through your skull that in order for all, us fags and lesbians to be treated equal....we MUST treat others in the exact same manner.

What homosexuals really want is the true definition of "seperate but equal".

Yep, and the millions of non-gay people who support gay marriage count for fuck all, of course [8|] .

"Separate but equal", I ask you... what a load of bollocks [sm=rofl.gif] .

Can a gay man marry a woman, yes or no? Can a lesbian marry a man, yes or no?

Are they seeking special privilege to marry the same sex, yes or no?

Face the facts, homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals, but seek special rights that are different than what heterosexuals are granted...What would YOU call it?

No where in the fight for equality have we demanded special treatment. Anyone who keeps saying we are demanding special treatment is simply full of shit.

i want to go on record that i am in favor of legalizing same sex marriage.  [sm=flowers.gif]

i do not see any harm it does to anyone in doing so.  It takes no rights away from anyone.

There is though, the paradoxical dilemma of the uber-religious folk being the primary source of that very discrimination. It's one thing to decide to still afford basic speech liberties to bigoted viewpoints but when that very group is going beyond that and attempting to enact legislation to support their bigotry, it's not quite so easy to remain objective.

Amen.  If my getting married devalues someone else's, they have a LOT more problems than me getting married.

If people want to "protect the sanctity of marriage", they should get rid of Vegas and divorce lawyers/laws.

There is no "sanctity of marriage". The very idea seeks to disenfranchise each individual of the place to determine for themselves what the emotional and ethical value of their marriage means.

Heterosexuals are granted the right to marry their PARTNERS.

Homosexuals want that same right.

I see no special privilege here

there is also the fact though that the uber-religious are not the only ones not supporting gay marriage... obama doesn't support it either... personally, i think the fact that prop 8 has been on the ballot twice in a year is an encouraging sign for gays being allowed to marry.  eventually, with enough education and donations to the cause, the ballot will probably eventually pass in the near(ish) future.  one point is that with drea... if people meet a gay like you, nobody is going to support your rights.... look at it this way, if you are the first gay person i met, i for one would not want to support you in any way... you are a kook, and insult people with opposing viewpoints.  you catch more flies with honey...

beargonewild -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/28/2009 3:28:57 PM)

~FR~

Just think.....if this was for "special rights" then it will give the same freedom for a straight man to marry another straight man.

There is a stark difference between holding personal views that do not follow with a viewpoint and being of the mindset that your views should dictate what another is capable of doing in their private lives.

So...you'd deliberately try to constrain the freedom of another person because they said something you didn't like?

What's an insult to opposing viewpoints?

That's the point I'm trying to get across. I know I'm not good at making my points. I'm a great novelist but not so great a speaker. You put my thoughts into much better words than I could have. Thank you.

You know, it's people like you that give conservatives a bad name. That is very probably the most blatant piece of sophistry i've seen in a long time. i'd have more respect for you if, instead of hiding behind twisted spurious logic, you just came right out and said that you were a **** spirited *****. Not much more respect, i grant you, but a bit more. At least you'd be being honest.

(edited to be less forthright)

*snort*  I can't help but think of that song from My Fair Lady...  "I'm An Ordinary Man"...  Give it a listen if you don't know it, you'll then know why I'm laughing. ;)

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled thread.  Sorry.

nelly33 -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/28/2009 3:36:32 PM)

i've said earlier in the thread that i actually support gay marriage... but what i am saying is that nobody is going to support drea with her downtalking to the people that disagree with her... no christian who is opposed to gay marriage is going to change their mind just becuase somebody tells them... "your stupid."  if this thread is just to vent, then fine... bigoted, but fine... but if actually interested in going about changing things, then it fails

Maybe I'm wrong on this but I thought the sanctity of marriage was strictly based upon the values which the couple place upon their union themselves?

Before Mod 11 comes in with the bullwhip, can we please stick to attacking posts and points instead of posters. Some of my favorite people are posting here and I'd hate to see 'awaiting approval' by anyone's name. Please?

You're welcome.

The sad thing is...is that the points they make, unfortunately, do have a tinge of merit to them inasmuch as a Supreme Court ruling is best put off until it's presumed the country as a whole is ready to make a permanent sweeping decision in favor of all human marriage (at least the monogamous kind at this point). There is a certain bit of trying to play to the crowd to make the cause appear pretty and benign...as if the ethical and logical constructs alone are not enough for a populace engorged in political correctness.

It's unfortunate that for many people, facts alone are not enough to persuade...but they should be facts dressed in a pretty formal evening gown to exude enough merit to be taken in accordance with basic human decency and integrity.

I think he is missing the whole point of marrying because you "love" someone and want to spend your life with them. Have the same rights to be in the hospital room if something happens to your partner. I doubt anyone on here will change that. Thankfully the country as a whole seems to be moving in the direction of equal rights, so I am not going to let those who can't get it bother me.

nelly33 -> RE: Prop 8 ruling makes me wanna kill people... (5/28/2009 3:40:06 PM)

i think another point is that some that disagree with the idea of gay marriage don't oppose it to be legally permissible, and i think it is important that just because some think gay marriage is morally wrong, does not mean that they all think it should be illegal... some of us, myself included, are lumping together all people that follow religion, as some outside of this community tend to lump all gays and lesbians together.
