For a first meet, jeans and a t-shirt works fine for me. Oh and that is for both sides.

Mmmm.  Lovely scenario.  I do so like seeing people hoist by their own petard.

Really?  I hate seeing ballet dancers in costumes that are too tight.

Sweet J, littlesarbonn - that story is shocking.  I'm still absorbing it.

"Petard," not "leotard," you imbecile.

Almost every prospective sub that I have met in public has made a comment to the effect that "you don't look like a dominant".

Sounds to me like they are trying to challenge you.  I doubt it has anything to do with your clothing.  Maybe they (at least in some of cases) are trying to prompt you to prove yourself somehow, or explain yourself, or reassure them in some way that you are indeed capable of dominating them.

Really, really excellent point....I did get that impression from at least one of them in particular.  I think he had been accustomed to dealing with pro Dommes and was expecting something different than the social interaction that we were having.

LOL!  I dressed for the locale when I was a pro dominant, too.   Those costumes are COSTUMES, not streetwear!  My former partner dressed provocatively, but that was her personal style.

If i may be allowed a true story....many years ago i went to my favorite men's clothing store and purchased a new three-piece suit.I had told my friend i wanted something different colorwise to wear for a shirt. He suggested pink and seeing i ttrusted his judgement,i bought two pink shirts, one long sleeve and one short.Well i can honestly say i never received more compliments when i wore them as much as say when i don my Hawaiian shirts. So the point is the color doesn't make you any more or less submissive or dominant than you already are.Or as i like to say..only a real man wears pink..just so happens this real man is highly submissive. My thoughts on it if you will.

Fr:

When my mother bought my shirts one colour was always missing - pink - and I never noticed that. Some years ago she suddenly owned up: she never bought me pink shirts because she associated those with homosexuals. I was astounded. For me that link did not exist. I am heterosexual whatever I wear. Nor do I care what other people think about my attire.

Steponme73 -> RE: What do you wear to a first public meeting? (6/2/2009 11:07:21 AM)

If I was meeting you for the first time, I would expect you to be in comfortable "Vanilla" clothing.  This is a meeting, usually in a public place!  Look normal, look comfortable, feel normal, feel comfortable and if someone makes an off the wall comment like "you don't look like a dominant",  consider the source...

When I met my slave, I was a collared slave.   I had a mentor who was guiding both of us.  He was already under my Mentor's instructions on how to dress.
I wore just a plain skirt and top.
Aparently it worked because we have been together for five years now.

Best Wishes,

One of my favorite outfits is a charcoal grey suit with a pink shirt and a black tie. It's one of the few outfits I wear where the reason I enjoy wearing it so much as that I know how fucking terrific it looks.

Charcoal grey with a pink shirt: yep, that would work. I bet it does look terrific.
