TExas has had several cops on the state and local levels get hit by other cars. He was trying to ensure he did not end up as roadkill.

The lady did not like that she got caught. We all been caught....and with out incident. We took our lumps and life went on. She thru a temper tamtroom. ~fr~ The whole scene reminds me of a Rottweiler taking on a miniature poodle. Wonder what’s on the 37 sec of missing tape, from the time he got to her truck and when it is restarted at him saying “65 in a 45…..”. If that is how he was trained how to handle such situations, that’s just sad. According to what is shown, he lost control of the situation, before he even opened the truck door. Kim

FR: I haven't had a traffic ticket since 2001, but I always signed my name with a smiley face at the end. [:D]. Most of the time; they didn't say nothing, but when they did, I'd tell them that's how I sign my name. LOL.

Kim He acted in a way to minimize risk to both himself and to her, if you watched the footage you saw how busy the street was, and if you have ever driven you know how stupid people drive when they see flashing lights. Tasers hurt like hell but have a much better chance of not doing personal damage than his other choices for keeping her subdued. I guess I just don’t see it the same way as you, but I am aware that part of my perspective has to do with my experiences dealing with ‘not so honest’ law enforcement officers. I know how some of them like to throw their weight, height, badges and “toys” around, to intimidate. He didn’t seem any different than those, I encountered. Kim

Don't let her age fool you. I'm an EMT & those 70 year olds can be pretty damn physically feisty! I remember one facial trauma who was drunk and she tried to fight each & every crew member on scene AND she was strong! Those bony arms had alot of strength in them and since it's illegal for me to physically restrain her, I called for the cops.

There is no getting out of it. I dont know ANYONE in the 4 valley area that got out of a ticket. Back in Chicago- 50/50 chance- (during the 80s) My poor mom was with me my last ticket when I got nailed on i80. She kept talking to the officer. Im thinking- mom shut up! I am certain I have at least 1 other violation that could be wrote up. I was guilty- and I felt like a very small man- that I would risk the life of my own mother in my car!!! Chalk it up to testosterone. Males like to floor it.

I don’t think I am getting my point across very well. The officer contributed to the escalation of the situation just as much as Grams did. Others see an officer trying to keep them out of traffic, I saw a man getting frustrated because some little old lady wasn’t cowering down to him. It shows in his continual attempt to stay up hill from her. It shows in the way he allowed himself to argue with her, and the way he is yelling and towering over her while he is doing it. Why did he have her get out of the vehicle on that side of the truck? Why didn’t he call for backup? How is his standing between her and traffic going to prevent her in any way from being hit? Do they make vehicle proof vests these days? My experience as a sub tells me she had more control of the situation then he did (until he tasered her), and neither had any over themselves. As far as the end results; right about the time she said “take me to jail”, any valid reason she might have had for not signing the ticket, went out the window. (Not willing to overlook the missing 37 sec.) The rest is history. Kim

Of course it would be good to see the WHOLE tape! He had to talk loud. The traffic makes it harder to hear. And the lady was older- and often that means hearing loss.

Having been in similar situations to the officer, he did fairly well. He used his body as a barrier to keep her from moving into traffic or leaving the scene. He warned her of what the consequences would be if she continued to resist and did so repeatedly. He did not draw the taser until she physically resisted being cuffed. Yes, he was obviously frustrated. To answer another question, he had her get out on that side of the car because it was the side she was on. You try to do your job when someone is acting that way. Worse, you try doing it when the badge and uniform you put on every day make you the "bad guy" to all those asshats who can't own up to the fact that laws apply to them. I had to deal with people like her almost every day for 10 years. I can guaranty that I would have been yelling like a drill seargeant in his place. She was THE cause of the incident. She chose to speed. She chose to refuse to sign the ticket. She chose to resist arrest. This officer was doing his job and protecting the lives of highway workers, the lady herself and anyone else the woman would have killed in the wreck after she hit a road worker.

No. I live on a busy street. I can reach out and touch the cars. And it effects hearing even in the house. As to- elderly hearing loss. A large % ARE. Heck young people too.
