i can never understand this in the case of suicide. If you want to off yourself why in Gods name are you going to allow someone to be traumatized for the rest of their life? Put a fucking note on the door.

We will likely never know unless he left a note and that detail is made public.

There is an article that said he had suicidal thoughts in the past:

Doubt that I lusted after David Carradine, but many of the people I admire are in the Entertainment Business. David was so interested in what he learned doing the Kung Fu tv show that he went on to become a Shaolin Monk. That is something to respect.

Having met MANY Shaolin Monks I can honestly say that I have respect for them.

*sighs*

We are talking Bangkok here, people..... they're not exactly known for being very forthcoming with details, especially if it could put their tourism industry at risk. What a shame though - I enjoyed his work, especially in "Grey Lady Down". I wasn't as impressed in later work, he did some shows on either Discovery Channel or TLC with his brother Keith and he just came off as just "there" while Keith was much more interesting to watch.

I still say that "Kung Fu" was a classic...it was a favourite growing up.

Suicide is probably the ultimate selfish act.
At any rate, it is sad news.

Suggestions it was solo breath play here
"...the suggestions his death had a sexual twist were strongly disputed by the star's close friend, attorney Vicki Roberts, and his manager Chuck Binder, who insisted he died of natural causes. ..."

The rope accidently... ?

In any event, this will become a media circus.
I feel sad for his family.

Auto-erotic asphyxiation (self-administered breath play), Michael Hutchence (INXS) died from it as well.

Yeah. That was weird. He's 72 and the note said he was found hanged in his hotel room. Strange.

FR, after read thru

He was quite lovely &, I think, under-utilized in the movies . . .. . .

An interesting obit / appreciation here:

Maybe it was kink gone wrong, but if it was a suicide, I'm speculating he felt guilty about that horrible rip-off of an ending in Kill Bill II.

That's what I was thinking. There was a local case here a while back...complicated suspension from the ceiling, no chance of mistaking it for anything but what it was, unfortunately gone awry.

FR:

I quote:
quote:

“All we can say is, we know David would never have committed suicide,” said Tiffany Smith, of Binder & Associates, his management company.

I quote:
quote:

Lt. Teerapop Luanseng, the officer responsible for investigating the death....“I can confirm that we found his body, naked, hanging in the closet,” Teerapop said.

I quote:
quote:

a quote a Bangkok police officer gave to British newspaper The Sun.
The cop tells reporters, "A rope was attached to his neck and also to his penis".

My conclusion: this was a professional assassination. The rope was tied around his penis to prevent his bladder emptying. He was hung in the closet for the same reason: to delay discovery. I would expect him to have gotten a drink that was spiked with a sedative, after which a team of at least three assassins invaded his hotel room.
Lt. Teerapop Luanseng of course is a suspect, as he may have been appointed to hush up any evidence that the actor was assassinated.

I wonder why he was assassinated. Did he get too close to a major weapons or drugs trade, or some other major secret?

Rule, that would be quite a fitting & romantic exit for him . ... . . Entertaining speculation there . . . . .

As to the other cause discussed in this thread: I was checking out some of the gossip sites' news about this, & the comments under some were full of the auto-erotic asphyxia interpretation, so it's not just us kinksters spotting that aspect . . . . . With quite a few treating that as a foregone conclusion . . . .

Carradine's Rep: Death Was 'Accidental'

Carradine's Death Was Accidental

(The articles are circumspect, but the comments below the articles really let rip in that style we online forum participants are so familiar with . . . .. )

With all respect, personally I'd categorize auto-erotic asphyxia as a 'good' way to go . . . . . Hopefully his family knew something about what big freakiness he might have had going on, & thus it's not too terribly much of a shock . . . . . . .

How sad. I liked him in Kung Fu and some of his other stuff like bad guys in Lone Wolf McQuade and North and South. Such a shame he is gone.

Some rather inspiring insight from Mr. Carradine.

From David Carradine's official website:

"David's Art Bio
(page 3)

"Another problem I had to overcome was the fact that I'm slightly color blind: Faces would tend to be green, and I wouldn't know it. I solved that by never using green paint out of a tube. If I wanted to paint a tree, I'd make the green myself.

"I've always had an especially hard time with everything I've tried to do. I wanted to be a musician, but I don't have a particularly good ear. I've managed to become a pretty great piano player, though, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. I do okay with the guitar; and I write good songs. I became an outstanding athlete even though I was one of those original ninety-eight pound weaklings to begin with. I've made it pretty big as an actor in spite of being terminally shy. I've always envied my brother Keith, who can do just about anything without trying very hard. Invariably, I had huge obstacles to overcome in anything I tried. Had to work against my genes to achieve my dreams."
