MissSepphora1 -> RE: Israel says screw you US (6/8/2009 11:22:42 PM)

It is not a "theory" that we send Israel more money than any other country.  It is not theory that we have sent them more than any other country.  It is not theory that there are countries in the world more desperate for that aid than Israel is.
It is not a theory that Israel has univeral health care.  It is not a theory that Israel is one of the strongest economies in the world.  It is not a theory that we have given a large amount of aid to Egypt as well, since they signed a peace treaty with Israel.

So why with all their technology, their strong economy do we continue to provide so much "aid" to isreal?  When I think of aid, I think of someone in need of help who cannot help themselves.  This is not the case with Israel.  So why does the aid continue?

Starbuck09 -> RE: Israel says screw you US (6/8/2009 11:26:46 PM)

Because for America they are a key ally and one that has great potential for either stabilising or destabilising the whole region MissSepphora. America wants israel as any ally as undestandably they do not want them as an enemy.

MissSepphora1 -> RE: Israel says screw you US (6/8/2009 11:30:00 PM)

So we pay them to keep them a friend.  We provide their weapons, tanks, planes, and ammunition, and we continue to do so so that they will not be our enemy?
They have more spies in the US than any other country.  If they are such strong allies, why are they spying on us?
With friends like them...

Arpig -> RE: Israel says screw you US (6/8/2009 11:32:36 PM)

How do you know how many spies Canada has in the US? I mean do you really believe that William Shatner is "just" an actor?

I don't care what technologies the israelis have discovered, unless they found a cure for cancer, aids, or diabetes it's not worth the over 1 trillion dollars we've spent on Israel over the last fifty years.
Israel says they had advanced notice of saddam invading kuwait, and they may have.  I also believe the israelis provided the info about saddam that got us into the iraq war.  they wanted saddam gone, and they got what they wanted.

Actually, the Israeli Intelligence agency informed the CIA MONTHS before 9/11 and were ignored.
The intel they provided concerning Iraq was the facts that  1, there was no connection between Saddam and Bin Ladin, and 2, Iraq no longer had the ability to construct WMD's....

The reasons Bush gave for going into Iraq was that they had WMD's AND there was a connection to ALQaida and Bin Ladin, both of which turned out to be lies.

The truth of the matter is that as long as Saddam was in power, Israel knew what to expect, what he was capable of, and if necessary, Israel had the ability to neutralize the man.

Saddam was dealing with INTERNAL security problems and was no longer in a position to aid terrorist groups after the first gulf war, except for allowing Hamas and Hezbollah to train and recruit inside Iraq.

Israel could have dealt with Iraq at any time without us getting involved, and after we invaded Iraq, which Israel did NOT support, we did more to destabilize the region than anything else.

People seem to forget that since Israel declared independence, they have won every war they have been involved in.  Israel attacked and destroyed the reactor that Iraq had that would have given Iraq nuclear capability.

If you are going to blame Israel for anything, get your information straight, the BBC, CNN, MSNBC, AP, UP all had the information that Israel provided to the US and the President ignored.

All allies spy on each other MissSepphora I do not know how many spies israel has in America but I am sure Britain has plenty along with France, Japan as well as China and Russia.  And largely yes America pays to keep Israel as a friend because the American government deems that the reward is worth the money.  I have to say I can understand why thet do so MissSepphora.

Politics when you look at it deeply lack any principle or goodwill it works more or less the way children play friend and foe games. Most countries in the world produce enough food to feed their population and these mostly poor African and S. American countries are actually quite rich in resources. As long as the west doesn't interfere with their politics for their own short term gains no body needs loans. And loans and aids are a poison with all the preconditions, shit if they really did any good Africa would have the richest countries in the world. What they need is fair trade, fair money valuation and not to undervalue their resources.

Iraqi war is a simple equation

Trillions to be made in reconstruction

And assured cheap oil for a decade or more..

And continued rise of dollar inspite of having lost all its sheen .....

NEW YORK, June 8 (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil futures settled
lower on Monday, extending Friday's retreat as the dollar
strengthened, which made commodities such as oil less
attractive to investors. Traders also raised worries over demand as Wall Street was
weaker on profit and interest rate worries. Losses were limited
as traders weighed forecasts ahead of weekly inventory data
that called for lower crude inventories. "Crude oil prices backed further away from $70 as waning
upside momentum makes cashing out length look like the prudent
choice," said John Kilduff, senior vice president at MF Global
in New York. On Friday, crude futures fell from a seven-month high above
$70 on mixed sentiment about the latest government jobs report,
which showed that, while job losses were slowing, the
unemployment rate hit the highest in almost 26 years. The dollar extended gains as Treasury yields continued to
rise following last week's stronger-than-expected U.S. jobs
data.

Reports of that type come out almost hourly during the trading day, and tend to reflect immediate market conditions. The next one could report the dollar turning back down as futures recover on some new bit of news.

The US dollar has been falling against the Euro since the beginning of March. Near the end of March, and through about the third week of April, it recovered, briefly, about half of its losses, and then turned back down. As with all trends, forex rates trace a saw-edge pattern, and the last few days have seen a retrace in the dollar's favor.

Taking a longer view, however, at the beginning of March the US dollar's exchange rate against the Euro was about $1.25. On June 2nd. it broke through $1.43. The current retrace, which took it down to about $1.38, has already turned back toward $1.40 ($1.3955 at this writing).

The currency markets are not happy about the way the US Fed is printing money. The only thing keeping the dollar from falling harder against the Euro is the fact that Europe's economy isn't doing that much better at the moment.

That said, however, things have been worse. The dollar recovered a lot of ground on the hope that Obama would take the budget line by line and bring it under control. Obviously that didn't happen, so we're heading down the slide again.

not quite......... there was that incident at Suez as I recall, when alongside us and the French, the Israelis were left high and dry - by the US

So, on behalf of Anthony Eden I'd like to join in with the Israeli spokesperson in saying a rather belated "screw you!" too. Perhaps if KittinSol comes by later she might say a word or two on behalf of the French and Israelis too.

The odd thing is that the real money printing happened over the past 15-20 years or so, and pretty much stopped September 2008 with the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers. The thing is that currency markets failed to realize that. Now they suddenly see it, and much belatedly price the dollar accordingly.

What we are seeing now isn't money printing; it is scrambling to cover the money that has been printed under Greenspan.

Not trying to argue with you - you are absolutely right on the overall picture.

I do agree that it is your right to attack anyone you so choose that is the whole point of my argument jonnie. With regards to next post again that reinforces what I am saying that moral reasoning without the action to back it up is useless on it's own as it is not inherently more valuable or ''right'' than any other nation's.

Your argument seems to be "might makes right". Unfortunately it is still a far-too prevalent world view, especially here in the USA.

MissSepphora1 -> RE: Israel says screw you US (6/9/2009 4:32:04 AM)

I think Israel has left Lebanon several times without a true "win".
They've never defeated Hezbullah.

If you are spying on your enemies they are called spies. If you are spying on your allies, or a non-enemy, they are called diplomats ;).

Just a guess here, but it could be he was trying to say that those were just the reasons Cheney decided to have Bush invade. Not that that was the outcome, or that it is now a likely outcome, but that at the time it was the outcome Cheney was expecting, or at least hoping for. Obviously that's not quite the way it all turned out, but I've always felt that was pretty much the reasoning behind Cheney's actions.
