Right-wing extremism is anarchy, total anti government, no taxes, no state involvement whatsoever. Left wing extremism is total subservience to the state by the individual, individuals matter not, only the state matters.

Moderates are the extremists in the middle...

Those statements are both way off the mark in Europe though.

Just a quick response...

From my understanding "right wing" has a different connotation over on the other side of the pond... it is usually used to describe the extremists and whackos.  I will concede that such a meaning is beginning to take hold over here, however the traditional meaning over here was more towards "less government, lower taxes, family, self responsibility, etc...".

I think the comparisons of left to left or right to right on both sides of the pond may need a bit of clarification as to what the center is (if you know what I mean).  Then again 3 lefts do make a right.

The actual meaning since the coining of the term has been between the conservative right and liberal left. It actually comes from seating arrangements in the French parliament post revolution and I do not see any evidence it has ever been different here or there.

It is only recently, since Rand, that any other definition has even existed. Rand's version was completely ignored by everyone except her fanatic followers until recently when the meme began to spread amongst certain fringe right wingers to allow them to claim everything bad is left wing.

Both left and right wing 'extremism' are forms of anarchy - one is social anarchy; the other capitalist anarchy.

Also the term 'libertarian' was coined in Europe and was a term to describe the far left.

The Randian definition in action.

Not at all.

The British Conservative Party are right wing and campaign on: family values lower taxation personal responsibility tough on law and order etc.

Thank you for the helpful suggestion Orion - but obviously I did research it, and the author who I chose to cite went back to Hitler's own words. He also provided very credible links to many good sources in his bibliography.

"Theres even pitchers."

They didn't just haphazardly pick some old rune for no reason at all, regardless of how Caspar Milquetoast you feel that you need them to be politically. That's just now how it was, they had political leanings and they leaned very hard to the left.

But thanks again for the suggestion.

So if you dug up some nutcase blogger who insists that Hitler was an Indian chief, would you be arguing that he was really a Commanche?

It's pretty way off even in a US context from what I know of the anarchist movement over there.  Anarcho-capitalists (who are basically Libertarians with the courage of their convictions) are very much in the minority.  Most US anarchists are either social anarchists or individualist lifestyle anarchists.

I suggest you have a look at the system of goverment and ownership in catalonia when the POUM where in charge briefly during the spanish civil war, or the network of left-wing anarchist communes dotted across europe right now (christiania in denmark being the most famous), they'd show you that you're wrong.
