Another shooting, this time at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. One guard is reported dead. "Gunman shoots, kills, guard at Holocaust Museum" By NAFEESA SYEED and DAVID ESPO, Associated Press Writers Nafeesa Syeed And David Espo, Associated Press Writers – 1 min ago "WASHINGTON – An elderly gunman, said by authorities to have a violent and virulently anti-Semitic past, stepped inside a crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, opened fire with a rifle and fatally wounded a security guard before being shot by other officers. The assailant was hospitalized in critical condition, leaving behind a sprawling investigation by federal and local law enforcement and expressions of shock from the Israeli government and a prominent Muslim organization. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the gunman was "engaged by security guards immediately after entering the door" with a rifle. "The second he stepped into the building he began firing." Law enforcement officials said James Von Brunn, 88, a white supremacist, was under investigation in the shooting, and a second official said the elderly man's car was found near the museum and tested for explosives. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss the investigation just beginning. Museum officials identified the dead guard as Stephen T. Johns, a six-year veteran of the facility. In an e-mail, director Sara Bloomfield said he "died heroically in the line of duty." Unreal. The gunman was 88 yrs old. What a hate filled life he must have lead. So sad.

"Guard killed during shooting at Holocaust Memorial" "Both the gunman and a security guard were taken to George Washington University Hospital, where the gunman was in "critical" condition, said D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty. Neither Lanier nor Fenty would identify the gunman. The museum released a statement saying Johns died "heroically in the line of duty." "There are no words to express our grief and shock over these events. He served on the Museum's security staff for six years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Johns' family," the statement said. "We have made the decision to close the Museum tomorrow in honor of Officer Johns, and our flags will be flown at half mast in his memory." Emergency vehicles converged on the area, which is near the Washington Monument and other popular tourist attractions. The museum was full at the time, with a "couple of thousand" people inside, said William Parsons, the chief of staff. "Never take your guard force and security people for granted," Parsons said. Unfortunate that this happened yes....unfortunate even more is the fact that we all know he was and is not alone as there are any number of other's in this world with all the same thoughts and beliefs!

hes a murderer, a hate filled murderer by accounts so far, hes an asshole, an old asshole, a hate filled murdering asshole, a racist asshole, is he a terrorist asshole? I dunno. But i hope they nail his balls to the wall, but he will probably get probation.

Butch Von Brunn is from the mideast? Got a link to that? He certainly doesn't look to be of meditaranean descent and his surname is clearly germanic. His ties to the christian identity movement make sit clear to anyone familiar with them that he self identified as a christian. EDIT: multiple media accounts indicate his family is from Austria and Germany and have been in the US since the mid 19th century.

It was a single act by a bitter old bigoted jackass of a man. An act just like the anti-abortionist who aborted Tiller. An act just like the psychotic who killed students at VA Tech. An act just like the nutcase in Alabama. And an act just like that of the "born again muslim" who killed Pvt. William Andrew Long? But not like the act of ALF or ELF, who are truly terrorists. We live in dangerous times amongst dangerous people.
