James said the law allows an officer to pull over an ambulance if its emergency lights and sirens aren't running, as was the case in this incident.

THIS to me makes a BIG difference.  I was trying to figure out why the ambulance pulled over to begin with and i thought the sirens and couldn't tell if lights were running and i assumed they were.  I didn't think an ambulance in full emergency mode HAD to pull over or should.

agreed.

BUT even so>...........  not all cops are fucktards ;)

Of course not. Just as not all paramedics are rational individuals. ;)

exactly :)

ShaharThorne -> RE: Oklahoma Cops Attack Paramedics (6/16/2009 9:32:16 AM)

The news station is about to show the dash cam for the 3rd time here. I am checking it out since last nights' showing showed extra footage.

That's the media for you. When they can't think of anything else to air, they willl milk a story for all its worth. We saw the one with the cop stopping the family en route to visit a dying relative for at least a week....and then saw stories on the fallout for at least another week.

ST..if you can, I'd love to see the link to the expanded version... and Loki.. I'm not familiar with the story you reference.. links please?

ShaharThorne -> RE: Oklahoma Cops Attack Paramedics (6/16/2009 10:27:03 AM)

www.ktbs.com but I bet the link is shaky since is it a Louisiana TV station. It is dealing more with local news. I recommend looking for the OK City stations.

With what I saw earlier, the cop was not professional. Cussing out anyone during a routine traffic stop (failure to yield) shows that he needs to attend remedial classes and calling someone boy, especially someone black shows a tendancy to racism. I don't care if he has been a veteran for 15 years, he needs to take responsiblity for his actions and apologize to the paramedics for acting like a rabid pit bull.

Rainfire -> RE: Oklahoma Cops Attack Paramedics (6/16/2009 10:52:06 AM)

I just saw the clip on a Good Morning, America clip from Yahoo News. The paramedic tried to explain to the cop what was going on and also explained why their lights and sirens weren't on. The patient was in there with chest pain, possible heart attack in other words and hooked up to an EKG machine, I.V. and oxygen while strapped onto a gurney. The cop refused to listen and threatened to take the paramedic in.  To use lights and sirens while with a patient in possible cardiac stress is not a good thing as studies have shown that they increase the stress levels in both patients and paramedics. When I was running with the local crew in Idaho, it was common to not use lights and sirens in that case because of the increased risk to the patient. Only if they were in severe, life-threatening distress did we go Code 3. According to what I saw, it looked like sour grapes on the part of the cop. (Sorry, Sci - I know not all cops are like that!)

Besides, I have first hand experience on having a cop pull us over while enroute to the hospital with a patient. We were going Code 3 and the asshole tried to stop us for speeding...... [>:]

I think all of the people involved need to be assigned to the same anger management classes.  Then, they have to sit with each other for several hours thinking about the stupid way they all acted.

And the video of their incident needs to be shown to the entire class as a failure to act properly in a situation.  After having it dissected by everyone around them in the most humiliating way, maybe they'll act like adults next time.

Rainfire,

Thank you for the insider information as to why the lights and sirens are not turned on with a cardiac arrest patient in an ambulance transport.

The lack of concern for the patient is what bothers me the most about this entire incident.
