In the vein of Stephen's trick....don't grab a spark plug wire while the engine's running.

If you're a new quartermaster, beware of corporals bearing condensers (my dad loved to do this.)

And my best experience...if you're enjoying a nice cool evening in the garage with the door open, don't shut the emergency release for the garage door opener in the truck door. Or you may hear the following when you back up:

TWANNNGGG * release torn off by its roots *
   "What the hell was..."
BANG!!                 * truck hitting slightly dropped garage door *
    "...that??!!"

That's the last damn time I changed the oil in any of my vehicles.

Don't bother keeping your spare car key in your glove compartment so if you lock yourself out you'll always have the extra with you wherever you go.... In theory, it works... you DO have it. You just cant get to it :(

Btw... I never actually did this, but only because out of sheer luck I told my b/f I was going to and he explained why it just wasnt a good idea.

A couple of weeks ago, I brought my car in for an oil change. While there, I bitched about windshield wipers and how mine didn't work worth a damn.

The tech came back with a straight face (I don't know how) and informed me that the plastic sheath must be removed for the wiper's blade to work....

make sure your head is nowhere near the corner of a wall before whipping it around to look at something (I looked like I had a horn on my skull.....*sigh*)

Never pull one of those enormous springs on a garage door if it comes adrift from it's mooring, without first tying back long hair. When you let go, it won't.

Never try to get built up ice out of a freezer with a pointy, sharp instrument. Ice is tougher than you think. Knives are sharper than I believed.

Never use a serrated edged knife to cut a bagel without moving your thumb first (5 stitches)

Knife or sharp instrument, cant remember which. When my sisters fridge was going out I was trying to deice it since it was 1/2 filled with ice. There was that last layer of thick ice left on the bottom.. So I started hacking away....it didnt take long to hit the bottom of the fridge and cut through the bottom....when that happens all the refridgement some blowing out...talk about stink.
Luckily we were going shopping for a new one the next day.
Being winter it too a dozen stores to find a styraphone chest to hold the frozen food.

Over the years now 3 of my neighbors have started burn piles, walked away and forgotten them, and caused brush piles. These days I'm mean, I call the fire department and report them the moment I see the pile burning and nobody sitting next to it with the hose at the ready.

On my part, backing out of the garage and into my ex's pick up. It was parked up the hill the previous night is my only excuse. But showing up at the auto body shop and having the guys roll on the floor when I told them was no fun.
