Status: offline 		I am thinking that women who have never had children - or who chose (for what ever reason) not to breastfeed, and men in general, have absolutely no right to be posting their opinions on this subject. Between my two children I spent 30 months breastfeeding. Was I going to stay at home for that long? NO! Was I discreet? YES! There are lots of "nursing shirts" available with overlapping layers or zippers to make the breast accessable yet not visible. I also used a nursing blanket. To this day, walking through the mall or park, seeing a Mom nursing her baby, always puts a smile on my face. She is doing what she was created for. The bond that nursing creates between mother and child cannot be replaced by a bottle. My children are extremely loving and affectionate - not to mention friends.

Status: offline 		I have noticed that none of my points have been mentioned by you Loki, so  I decided to look up how many women have been robbed/assaulted etc while breastfeeding and i came up against a couple of cases, but all of them happened while the mother was feeding in a separate room/behind a curtain, away from other patrons.
When I fed my kids, people around me they might not notice the nipple, but they are more than happy to assist if I dropped something while holding one.
If anone looked at me strange while im around my kids my momma bear/psycho bitch face arrives and would cheerfully hurt anyone that tried anything.... also skank and hoochie are in the eye of the beholder and matters little to the one being fed.
hopefully your own parenting will teach you reality

Agreed.

Although I very much liked Marc's post. People just get too weirded out by nudity and I seriously do blame it on patriarchal religioun.

Locked up? No. I'm saying her leaving the house with my child would not be acceptable terms with me.

This is where communication is so important. Any woman who decides to be with me will be WELL informed what kinda guy I am. In fact, I don't try and persuade women to like me....I discourage it. When I detect "interest" from a girl I honestly ask her up front "you've seen....how I am....why in the blue hell are you still interested in me?"

So, should that day come when I do have a ring on my finger, it will mean the woman who has the matching ring is the most determined, persistent, compliant lady I have ever laid my eyes on who was not disuaded in any way by what I had to say.

When the time comes for the powers that be to override my views on reproduction (purely by accident I assure you), I will not have to tell her to stay or make her.....she will do so because it is her choice as well.

But I like my opinions

Honestly, this seems like its just asking for a fight, of course everyone has the right to post their opinion, some opinions may just be more valid than others :P

The original question was how does everyone feel about the issue, that includes people who are breastfeeding, people doing so publicly, people that refuse to do so, and even guys

Correction: The topic "at hand" is people's views on breastfeeding in public. I've expressed my views and now I am addressing "why" they are my views -- vis a vis security and decency.

To the OP.

Still loving the idea i could have stayed at home for 6 months while someone did everything for me, just so i could feed little darling without upsetting anyone. Unfortunately the father had run a mile by then and i hadnt won the lottery.

Not sure how things differ nowadays especially in the UK, but noone ever said a word where ever i chose to fed the little darling, apart from once in a restaraunt, where the waiter, having realised that child needed feeding rapidly disappeared and came back with an offer for me to use the managers office. Wasnt for the sake of other patrons, but he thought i might like privacy and a bit more comfortable position to sit.

I'm curious how often this issue comes up. I'm 45, and I eat out a lot. Yet I can't recall ever noticing a nursing mother in public. Is this something others have spotted often?

there is a lot of it here, mainly because there are a lot of mothers here, I dont recall ever being bothered by it, Im eating a sammich, the tyke across the aisle from me has milk

Thought that liquid diets were in nowadays?

Status: offline 		It might be just me but my experience in UK has never been this fraught. I have breastfed all four of my sons in public and never once been asked to stop, as far as I know I never once drew attention to myself - and never once flashed a breast... I wore appropriate clothes which were practical and just got on with it. In a youth club full of kids Id worked with for years - no one even noticed, in a shop queue, on a train (was a LONG journey). Breastfeeding for me is wonderful, magical, emotional and also just the way my body is supposed to feed my children.

You only say hopeless because I don't agree with you. Here's the thing, though. I don't have to agree with you and vice versa. The topic was how do you feel about it. I have expressed that.
