i thought this thread was about a womans right to feed her child in public.

Come on Loki....if you are saying a woman is vulnerable because she is distracted by nursing....she is just as distracted when bottle feeding.

As for perverts who might target the woman because they say a flash of a breast? You see a hell of a lot more with the way some women dress normally.

Repeated sarcasm in lieu of actually discussing an issue? No. You use sarcasm once to make a point. After that, you're just being childish.

The thread is about our thoughts on breastfeeding in public. Mine tend toward concern for the bad shit that's out there and the hoochies who have no class when feeding.

True, but a bottle is easier to drop....or throw as a weapon than a kid is.

Just trying to introduce a little light-hearted humour there, don't be so touchy. It's one way I can cope with your obviously earnest, but completely misguided, concerns over women's safety, your personal view of what makes a woman 'decent', your opinion on breastfeeding, and your idea that women are fragile creatures that belong with the Ming vases in the ancestral home of their hubbies  .

And repeated use of paranoid statements to berate other people's sensible points of view are what? Not to mention condescending snark.

So it is paranoia then,....

I admitted this on the second page of this thread.

As far as concerns about being stolen from or something like that, there are precautions that can be taken, namely, keep your eye on your purse, just like when you do anything else

Yes, but one question: If you could choose when to be 'attacked'.....not 'if' you will be, but when (just come along with me for a moment). Someone says to you "you're going to be attacked and forced to defend yourself and your loved ones"......would you rather that moment come when you are nursing, highly vulnerable and away from potential support? Or would you prefer to have all limbs available to fight, flee, or whatever?

No one thinks like this until it's too late. Yes, it is a bit paranoid. But the issue in today's world isn't if you're paranoid, it's if you're paranoid ENOUGH. Bad shit happens daily and it gets worse with the same frequency. For some people it's not 'if' they will have something bad happen, but WHEN.

And speaking strictly for me and mine....I'd rather a significant other of mine not be in the most vulnerable position she or my UM could be in if and when something like that happens.

So then by this arguement we SHOULD let women breastfeed in public, where they will HAVE that support if needed?

Trying to figure out which side of this issue you are on here, as of late it has become difficult

I have been held at gunpoint twice for the purpose of robbing me, so far each time was in a semi-private place, one was a bathroom and the other was the changing room of a store, I believe that the reason that these places are chosen is one of security, they lack cameras or anyone else to call for help/Identify the perp

So, keeping that in mind, from a security standpoint, if I had a tit, I would whip it out on a stage somewhere, to make sure I am safe

i do not feed my child, bottle or breast, with my purse on my shoulder. If he is rotten enough to approach, take the purse and go away.

And Loki...i have had bottles tossed at me by toddler. They make piss-poor projectiles.

I'd make him hunt for it wherever it fell in the diaper bag...  and since the piercing cries of a disturbed child would at least make folks glare at me, the attack would be forestalled.

Personally, if I were the criminal.......I would definitely choose a better target. Dig in that bag and who knows what you will stick your hands into!

I'm not the only person commenting on decency. In fact, in one of my posts, I have said I have seen women feeding both ways -- one under a baggy sweatshirt that made it almost un-noticable and the other who wore a low-cut hoochie top and just flopped it out. The former didn't bother me, and the latter disgusted me, not for the act itself, but the lack of class in the person doing it.

At least two seperate women here have said the same thing as I have -- it's about being decent. Just because it's a natural thing doesn't mean you can drop all manner of class and be crude about it because it's 'your right.'

There is middle ground. Me and mine won't be doing such things in public. You might or might have. Neither of us has say over what the other does. However we can at least agree that one should try and be discreet and not flaunt things in front of folks.

I had one of those Baby Bjorn baby carriers - if I was out and about, I'd just pull him up to the tap - low-cut tops were handy.

If you show me one post where I 'berated' anyone, I will show you a post that you read things into.

i adore you LadyH...but i do not agree. To me it is an issue of getting him the hell away from the baby and myself asap. Nothing in that wallet is worth the risk.

I loved big baggy men's button up shirts. Combine that with one of those small cotton blankets and no one had a clue.

Yeah, I watch/read the news. Multiple sources per day, every day. And what I see there disgusts me with an alarming regularity.

Oh absolutely, Holly!!  I meant I would give him the whole BAG, not hunt up my wallet myself!!  I also do not hesitate to create public scenes.  Heaven help someone who got between me and the little dude!

Then maybe you shoud be policing Craigslist and telling them about the dangers they're encountering?

There are so many ways to do this discreetly - I don't think anyone was unfortunate enough to even peek at a leaky nip when I was doing it.

Besides, it's the unsexiest thing in the world - it's utilitarian, primal and primitive. Perhaps some people are bothered by it because it reminds them that we are called 'mammals' for a reason?
