So...would you call the manager if you saw me discreetly nursing my baby in a restaurant?

(here comes a wise-ass answer)

"Waiter!  I'll have what he's having."

Hey, I said that already  .

So, to sum up: tits exposed for sexual consumption is FINE. Silicone breasts are GOOD. Bouncing chests are PLEASING.

Boobs being put to their natural use is NOT FINE.

The mind boggles.

I have been surprised at this thread also. The funny thing is that the most freaked out, seem to be guys. I never expressed my personal point of view on discretion because it is my own issue. I, me personally, have never been one for blantant displays of anything. Not nursing, not sexuality, nothing that would make other people uncomfortable. But that is ME. If other people want to advertise in a more obvious fashion, that is on them.

Now, if we want to talk about disgusting public displays of naked breasts.......let us discuss moobs and beer guts.

Yep. There's a distinct whiff of something very repressed from the few anti-nursing guys on this thread.

That they manage to imply that nursing should be confined to the place reserved for excretia speaks volume about their personal anxieties.

I hope they are reborn as extremely fertile women in the third world. That'll teach them, and good luck to them finding a 'public restroom' to hide their nursing shame  .

ALL:

I have been back and forth reading here for days and the more I read the more confused I get..

There seems to be a real effed up idea by a few that a breast in its natural state of nurturing another being is somehow indecent..undignified..what??

yet I would be willing to bet..big bucks have been paid by the same/OK'ed to slurp beers and compare boobage flopping on stage in an unnatural  objectified state..

NOW is it that some cannot see a breast without thinking sexually or that it is a signal for breeding purposes..or deposit or release of full testicles..??

Just as cave art back the day has been MISINTERPRETED as "fertility cult"..or "erotic drawings"....... by male anthropologists..fuk!?/we have still have those who think every tit is a trigger for them..??
safe to say
neandrathal man does still walk among us

It is unfortunate that in western society the body in natural sacred celebration and
function is seen as indecent and in a "perverted" state as acceptable..by some...by many

Myabe these women could breast feed on stage at a bar as their place to nurse in acceptance..

shitty man

I shouldn't be shocked at some of the assbackward thoughts in this thread, but I am.

Yeah women should stay home. Or if they have to go out (yanno those  frivolous things like needing groceries) they should hide in a dirty bathroom to feed their infant.

God forbid some person frightened of a breast have to actually glimpse one.

Oh thats right. Breasts exist only for the pleasure of men. How silly of me to forget.

*shrug* Go ahead and nurse in public. In a restaurant I would ask my waiter to speak to a manager. *shrug*

And unless there is a tit visible, the manager is supposed to do.... what, exactly?

Ask her to take it into privacy, or be willing to comp me what bit of my meal I've eaten, as I won't be eating the rest or paying unless she moves it elsewhere.

Managers (and stores in general) have the right to refuse service for less infractions than something like public nursing in their (privately owned and operated, and hence private property) restaurant. Any manager worth his/her salt would ask the nursing woman to take it elsewhere after my request. If the answer was a blatant no, then he'd have to decide who to 'deny' service to. That simple.

I've *seen* it happen. I've been the person asked to *get* the manager who had to MAKE it happen (and, in my case, did so very well).

There's a difference between nursing in public and not expecting a problem, and nursing in public *belligerently* when asked to do so elsewhere.

There was a *different* manager (same restaurant, different woman) who had to deal with the latter and he (rightfully) ejected the woman, who hadn't even ordered yet beyond drinks, comping those, since the gentleman who talked to the manager was already eating. He didn't handle it so well (and the woman later received a gift certificate; not for being ejected, but because she had been yelled at by the manager).

If you're going to nurse in public, that's fine as long as you're willing to *move* to private if someone (yes, like me) has an issue with it (or if it's included in a terms of service for wherever you're at). I shouldn't need to explain why I have an issue with it; I have one, and as a fellow customer it's up to the managers/owners to mediate that, otherwise they're like to lose one (or more) customers in the future. Simplicities of business.

Like I said before... my mother didn't always have a restroom available... she'd find a discreet corner, and stand facing it while I nursed. I don't understand why even *that* would be such an issue. Why couldn't/can't you nurse standing, I've never known it to be a problem for anyone (though admittedly the only people I've talked to about this were my mother, a big burly woman, and a few of her friends who are quite similar) anymore than sitting.

But your mama was a saint, and the rest of womanhood,  all brazen breastfeeding whores.

Thanks, I thought it was a funny turn-of-phrase  Better than the one the Manager used (Nursing while bitching, which I thought was inappropriate).

On my mother, oh aye :P Put quite simple, she didn't like even the *chance* at exposure, and she found (and still does) breastfeeding in public to be lewd behavior.

~very late Fast Reply~

Humans are mammals. Breastfeeding is what breasts were -designed- to do. Breast milk is the absolute ONLY perfect food for human babies... so why in the world would breastfeeding become a taboo? Only because of the misdirected thoughts and inhibitory moralistic legalizing of a small group of people whose blinders are firmly affixed.

Even if every woman everywhere just whipped out a breast and nursed (which is -very- uncommon in the Western world... most of the women in Western culture tend to be -very- discrete while nursing, even though, IMO, it is senseless to hide something that is a normal bodily function... and yes, I think it's stupid to hide peeing and pooping, too), it still shouldn't be taboo... that's what boobs are FOR, for heaven's sakes (aside from being perceived by those with some aesthetic for curvy things as naturally attractive and decorative).

You're taking a statement out of context he said IF he wanted to be rude, and he wasn't wanting to be rude at all, he would of told those who's opinions he  thought should of been kept out, your opinion doesn't count so f*** the hell off ..........

Oh, yeah! I -completely- forgot 'pillowy'... silly me! How could I? Functional, comfortable, AND attractive. How much more could we ask, and -why- would we -ever- want to hide such beautiful functionality behind moralistic screening and in dirty toilets?

There's obviously a huge disconnect in some people's minds. While they seem to be more than accepting of Western culture's objectification of women's bodies (I have yet to see them complain at the naked bits and bobs - slits and boobs - that are regularly flaunted on the front of this website), they balk at these bodies executing what nature intended. At the same time, they refuse to confront their fears and to explore the reasons for their disgust.

It's weird, perverse, and totally fucked up   .

Then quite frankly it's her and your hang up over the issue, and the women it don't bother and who're quite fine with it should just keep on feeding their baby where THEY choose, and not in some bathroom where there's no place to sit unless you want to sit on a toilet ,  because you feel they should.

Having been in places where I've *witnessed* women nursing (discreetly, mind, not any of this 'tit-hanging' thing) with my mother (and other women her age) their response is generally the same...

"That's disgusting, why is she doing that in public?"

And I agree with it... probably 'cause my momma raised me to be her son ;) But it's peculiar that her female friends mostly agree, I suppose?

OH, oh! I've complained. In my journal.

Granted, I'm probably not the demographic you're talking about here.

I don't like to see womens' breasts unclothed if I can avoid it... (to make another pillow metaphor, even my best pillow has a case on it)

Likewise I *really* do not want to see vagina. Really. Been there, tried a taste, tasted bad. My first reaction on seeing a vagina in real life (granted, I was young)? "Ew... that's gross."

And it remains relevent 10 years later
