Again you're comparing apples and oranges, People wear shirts with offensive slogans for shock value, or because they think they're cool. Breast feeding mothers do not usualy breast feed for shock value or because it's cool, it's a NEED.

Whether the act or the shirt is a need or not is irrelevent. You can choose to look or you can choose not to look. Someone made this about personal responsibility. So I'm not talking about the act itself anymore. I'm talking about society and the warped way in which we as a people feel it's now our responsibility to govern how other people act, dress, think, etc.

I wouldn't eat in most restaurants then, if I were you. At least not causal dining. Friday's has a HUGE table right next to the men's room. The guy in the far right chair can reach to his right and open the door if he were so inclined.

I don't do casual dining - it's so yesterday.
Seriously - fridays?

Never said I went there with a date, did I? I used to work in one.

Hmmmmm... wasn't that precisely what you've been trying to do throughout the thread? Or is that because women aren't really 'people', they don't come into your lamentable equation?

Are you not aware that the conversation has moved on in the past 10 pages? You're seriously sounding like a broken record. I honestly wonder what might have happened in your past that would make you react this way to people so rabidly.

OH, oh! I've complained. In my journal.

Granted, I'm probably not the demographic you're talking about here.

I don't like to see womens' breasts unclothed if I can avoid it... (to make another pillow metaphor, even my best pillow has a case on it)

Likewise I *really* do not want to see vagina. Really. Been there, tried a taste, tasted bad. My first reaction on seeing a vagina in real life (granted, I was young)? "Ew... that's gross."

And it remains relevent 10 years later

Okay... all you ladies chomping at the bit to date this guy.... the line starts over there!  (sound of crickets chirpping)

Heh, teenagers who need money and aren't getting any allowance will follow the orders of their superiors, even if it is "breaks need to be taken in the bathroom if you want to eat, or outside if you don't"

Also, all, I have editted my last post (figured it might have gotten lost by now, and look, it's half a page gone!)

With all due respect aravain - I wouldn't have done that at any age.  My parents instilled a sense of maintaining my dignity.  Eating in a toilet is disgusting.  I would have walked from my position and threatened legal action.  Meh, maybe it's just different in the UK.

If you wouldn't take a date there, and I wouldn't either - then why mention it.
Yeah I know you were kinda funning.   I am saying I am a snob.

Legal action? o.O What sort

The break area was being redone (we couldn't eat there) and we couldn't eat elsewhere in the back (where there was the dishwasher and the kitchen)... and couldn't take our food outside, either. If we wanted to eat we either had to switch to plain-clothes (in our own car) or eat in the bathroom... (which I guess I should mention I cleaned... so I knew exactly how clean it was XD) because we weren't allowed to be in uniform and visible but not on duty (or switch clothes on the premisis).

I needed money to go on a band trip... and it was a 30 minute break with 10 minutes worth of meal... *shrug* seemed a no brainer to me back then! Now I'd probably think twice and just skip the meal, but I'm much more keen on passing up free food now compared to how I used to be :)

@MarsBonfire

I wouldn't show 'em a good time  'fraid I'd get kicked to the curb. There's a reason I'm gay ;P (quite a few, actually)

EDIT TO ADD: @the.dark

Also, my parents always taught me that, when working for money, impressing and pleasing my bosses was paramount. I was (and still am) perhaps a bit too trigger happy to do as they say as long as it doesn't cause bodily harm (and even if it does, sometimes).

I'm just suggesting where you might avoid eating if you don't want to hang out with people who would eat near a bathroom.

EDIT: Also, Calla, I'm not ignoring you, but I've decided that we're not going to agree based on fundamental differences in philosophy. Can we agree that we'll disagree on this and how it affects others for a long time (if not eternally)? I assume Kittin and I have reached that impasse already (and it didn't spark my brain to even ask, I've noticed she doesn't tend to hold serious grudges :), as well, I suspect, with sirsholly. Truce in adversity and diversity, all?

*curtsy* We may, indeed agree to disagree on this, aravain. However, as House Bladewing Debate Queen, I will probably continue to poke sticks at this topic until it is confirmed soundly dead. *chuckles*

That's one reason it was good to work at Friday's. Our "uniform" was just the red polo we wore and black pants. If you had another shirt on underneath, you could just take the polo off and drape it over your shoulder. That was enough to show us as "off duty." And no one cared what we did anyway. Too bad the tips sucked. But that's more clientel than establishment.

In the UK, there are laws that protect employees like the amount of breaks that are allowed for certain time periods and what and employer must provide.  If the employer breaks these - well...

Actually, I think it technically died long ago. Then we beat the dead horse for awhile.....now we're kicking cans of glue and dog food down the street.

I concur. I would never consider eating or drinking in a toilet, nor would I allow/encourage my "apples"* to think that was an acceptable way of handling mealtimes.

Here we have laws about breaks and such, but as with minimum wage laws, they don't apply to the food service industry. Working in a corporate environment, I got two 15 minute 'breaks' and one 1-long lunch break per 8 hour shift. As a waiter, I was lucky if I got a break at all, let alone lunch. I got lunch if I worked a double but it was only a half hour.

I don't know... I have trouble considering a post that is still covering the topic on at least half the posts and running 1/2 page or better every hour in postings to be 'dead'. *chuckles*

As long as you don't mind me doing the same, I don't mind

I never really mean to insult (unless I come right out and say it, and even then I might not be serious), but sometimes things get heated and I'll make a jab or two, but it's all in good fun. I post because I have fun doing so (or don't want to be misrepresented, in at least one case), and I enjoy taking hypothetical stances to their limits... though, in this case I likely would ask a manger to move where I wouldn't be able to see the nursing mother, truth be told, it's easier to take a harder standpoint. Plus, it makes me sound wishywashy otherwise!

I'm really pretty easy going. I forget that I can get intense sometimes and people don't necessarily know that on the other end of the computer screen my face is  when my post is

Well, the posts now are just arguing back and forth, cracking jokes, or going off topic. The main crux of the topic was put on life support. Then we pulled the plug. Now it's just the thread that never ends.
