Let me ask a question of the folks who are advocating sending moms to the bathroom to nurse. Do -you- take your chicken wings or sub sandwich into the toilet to have lunch? Then why expect a baby to eat in the toilet???

Back on page......oh hell I forget..... the low teens I think...I indicated that I had. A burger and fries, to be exact. Sometimes a soda. But I was very young.

Ok, I'll make it the same then.

What about those boys that love to wear those lovely shirts with slogans like "Suck my cock" of "Fuck off, wanker" (not actual shirts, mind you, but there are very vulgar ones I can't think of at the moment). Why can they be made to leave/cover up, etc just because someone doesn't like their shirt? Why should, if I were such a person to wear such a shirt, give a shit who could see my shirt? Don't like it? Don't look.

Yet that's not the way our society works anymore. If you don't like my shirt, you then have power to stop it. It's not how it should be, I agree, but that's how it is now.

Actually, I think that the boys (or girls) should be allowed to speak their peace (on their t-shirts or otherwise) as long as they're not causing a public scene where someone or something could get hurt or where they're actually interfering with an activity going on. I agree with you wholeheartedly... if you don't like it, don't look. (then again, I'm a rabid free-speech-ifyer).

Of course, on occasion, I have been known to wear a shirt that says "Evolution my ass... humans were smarter as MONKEYS!"

You're a rare bird then, unfortunately. These days a person can say they don't like 'anything' about a person and that person then has to change it or leave.

I used to have a tshirt that said "I fucked your girlfriend"

imagine the looks THAT got... certainly more disruptive than a woman quietly breastfeeding.

I would happily hang out with someone who breastfeeds.
I would not hang out with someone who would eat in a toilet, near a toilet or anywhere remotely close.

LEgally they cannot do that unless they have the sign posted and there is one restaurant here in town that follows that policy. Of course, there is barely anyone there and the last time they enforced that sign was against a couple of lesbians. Their busines in mainly catering to long haul truckers these days.

thanks for the link, GreedyTop...

Ohio's (my state) mention of the 'law'

quote:

Ohio Rev. Code Ann. ยง 3781.55 (2005) provides that a mother is entitled to breastfeed her baby in any location of a place of public accommodation wherein the mother is otherwise permitted

An owner/manager need give no reason why you are no longer permitted. Period. I think that should be upheld with their rights.

What this says to me is that they can't be evicted from a place like, say, a State Park, or city-owned playground. In those situations, I would agree that I would have no right to request they seek privacy, however when I'm paying to be somewhere I'm expecting a certain degree of ability to enjoy my meal, and yes it would make me lose my appetite.

re: the red text

so the following are ok?

i own this place and i hate fat folks-you must leave.

i own this place and i hate black folks-you must leave.

i own this place and i hate homosexuals-you must leave.

i own this place and i hate paisley skirts-you must leave.

i could go on and get plum silly, but i think this makes my point

If they were said to someone's face?

No, of course not... though only one of those would constitute an illegal reason (discrimination based on race). However, my point was that the manager need give NO reason, at all. So if he's evicting me because he doesn't like fat people, and asks me to leave, and I ask why, and he says the whole shpiel without a reason... I'm not entitled to a reason *why* he's evicting me.

And even if they are discriminating on race, if they're not giving reasons for evicting people, it's a tough case to prove.

(also, yeesh, I'm getting behind on replys with each one I compose )

EDIT: Also, Calla, I'm not ignoring you, but I've decided that we're not going to agree based on fundamental differences in philosophy. Can we agree that we'll disagree on this and how it affects others for a long time (if not eternally)? I assume Kittin and I have reached that impasse already (and it didn't spark my brain to even ask, I've noticed she doesn't tend to hold serious grudges :), as well, I suspect, with sirsholly. Truce in adversity and diversity, all?

ahhh but Loki, pooting and pooping are two different things. All though I suppose someone could be silly enough to say pooping don't stink either because women's bodily functions don't stink.

I wouldn't eat in most restaurants then, if I were you. At least not causal dining. Friday's has a HUGE table right next to the men's room. The guy in the far right chair can reach to his right and open the door if he were so inclined.

I'm bothered by a few things that would cause me to talk to management the moment I see it. Breast feeding *is* one of these things, yes.

Then, stop seeing 'it' and invest in a pair of these .

They won't save you from ridicule, but they'll spare others from your intolerance and ignorance.

The problem with that statement, and the fact that most of my friends throughout life have been female....I know better. Y'all can definitely bring the funk And I'm not talkin' George Clinton and the Parliment Funkadelic style, either.

I just dont get why it's so hard to NOT look at it....  There have been times when I've been out, and had to actually do a double take to decide if a woman was breastfeeding or just holding her child.

Heh, teenagers who need money and aren't getting any allowance will follow the orders of their superiors, even if it is "breaks need to be taken in the bathroom if you want to eat, or outside if you don't"

Also, all, I have editted my last post (figured it might have gotten lost by now, and look, it's half a page gone!)

It's because they actually WANT to see it. They miss their mommies  .

Fast Reply -

I would also like to point out that a woman with one unmentionable at her breast may well have other offspring with her and trying to herd them all into a bathroom stall area is impractical as well as a nuisance to the people in line for the toilets.

Again you're comparing apples and oranges, People wear shirts with offensive slogans for shock value, or because they think they're cool. Breast feeding mothers do not usualy breast feed for shock value or because it's cool, it's a NEED.

Your fuck you or suck my dick or I eat baby fetus's for lunch, or  I fucked your sister last nigght sorry she was late for dinnerany other sloganed t shirt, is not a need, it's a fashion statement. And, wearing it around certain circles ofp eople can probably construe lewd  conduct, like if you went to a park with little kids there, and all the moms and dads and kids there did not want to see your shirt depicting a dick, or with language just about any one would agree wasn't appropriate to be displaying around kids. Sloganed t shirts are obstrusive, they're meant to get attention, and they're a want not a need.

Again, I say most women do not breast feed for shock value, or a fashion statement,  or because they thought it'd be cool to. It's a NEED. You can't compare a WANT with a NEED.

I think that's what he believes though. After all, he did write this:

quote:

Loki

But in today's increasingly frivolous world, women walk around with little yappy dogs in their purse. Anything becomes "an accessory" and not a life the person is responsible for.

Unless, of course, it's your only shirt. What would you say in that situation? (It's a need to have it on, since it's the only shirt you own)
