Now we have the full set this week!

The thing I'd most like to know from the two of them is, just exactly how much shelf space is required to house the complete works of John Norman? I've often wondered, and now we seem to have someone on the forum who can actually give us a definitive answer.

*shudder*

worst. writer. ever.  I dislike his writing style more than Hemingway, and that is saying something.

*edited because although I hate Hemingway, his name still deserves to be capitalized.

stella41b -> RE: Dominant women (6/19/2009 9:06:55 AM)

There was once someone called Isaac Newton
Who once made a valid proclamation
That force is equal to a nominated mass
When it's multiplied by acceleration
This is the law of motion
His laws are a real brain teaser
I've found one more and it's called Sod's Law
When I read posts by the OP and her Master geezer
I learned them all when I was at school
And I think I've learned one more
And that's psychology hasn't got to grips with stupidity
And apparently that's Sod's Law

Now Einstein was a very clever man
With us all his philosophies he shared
He gave us a theory of relativity
Which is E equals MC squared
Where E is energy M is mass
And C is the speed of light
But Einstein would have been buggered
If he'd have read this OP last night
I learned them all when I was at school
And I think I've learned one more
And that's psychology hasn't got to grips with stupidity
And apparently that's Sod's Law

The hypotenuse has a square on
Which is equal Pythagoras instructed
To the sums of the squares on the other two sides
If a triangle is cleverly constructed
And that was the first geometric law
Quite frankly I'm still at a loss
Because who gives a shit where the three squares sit
Obviously the OP couldn't give a toss
I learned them all when I was at school
And I think I've learned one more
And that's psychology hasn't got to grips with stupidity
And apparently that's Sod's Law

Archimedes said Eureka
'Cos in English he weren't too aversed in
When he discovered that the volume of a body in a bath
Was equal to the stuff it was immersed in
And that was the theory of displacement
That's why ships don't sink
It's a shame that he wasn't around in 1912
The Titanic would have made him think
I learned them all when I was at school
And I think I've learned one more
And that's psychology hasn't got to grips with stupidity
And apparently that's Sod's Law

inspired by material from Richard Digance

Word for word. Wasn't it Hemingway to whom Truman Capote was referring when he said, "That's not writing, that's typing."? Or was he talking about Kerouac? I can't recall, and my memory is probably biased by the fact that I'd really rather he'd said it about Hemingway than about Kerouac. But at any rate, I just had this sudden thought of how much higher the average IQ of the human race might be today if we could go back in time and lock Hemingway and Norman together in the same room, and give them each a shotgun with 2 shells in it.

I find it interesting that you quoted and replied to my (obvious) generalization, but not the (obvious) generalization I was responding to.

Force equals mass times acceleration? As in E+MC squared? That was Einstein's theory, not Newton's.

Dislike Hemingway? You heathen, you! He's brilliant. His The Old Man and The Sea is probably one of the best books ever written in English. Not one extraneous word nor any missing.

Norman was a professor at Queens College, part of the city universites of New York (CUNY). He was an embarrassment to the school and the rest of the faculty. But as to shelf space, I think there were 29 books, let's say they average 2" thick, makes 58" or 4' 10". A prodigious output, a pity all of it was drivel. Soft porn is how we used to call it.

Wow, you shared your wisdom and no one agreed with you. Imagine that. Maybe you should sit back and think about why NO ONE has agreed with you yet. Maybe it's because your idea of women is scewed and maybe, just maybe your wrong about something. Go ahead, think about that.

This is exactly what I wanted to point out.

To the OP and her 'Master'...pay attention please. Not one person out of the 44 (yes I counted) who responded has supported the nonsense that either of you has posted.

Not.
One.
Person.

The both of you can spend time in your own little fantasies about why that has happened or you can both look at this FACT that you haven't received one ounce of support and perhaps go about learning something from that.

Are we taking bets now on whether the OP will return or not? Anybody got the odds/payout numbers?

Arrggghhh, I lost. She came back.
I bow to your's and Asher's greater wisdom. So as payment can I make some of Gypzy's biscuits? They might get stale in the mail though...

That is precisely what I dislike about him.  I found his word usage boring.

To each their own.  [:D]

Holy mackerel.  Are you this ignorant about everything you post?  "Correcting" someone like this is just as bad as what the OP and her, uh, master, tried to do.

Shockingly, force equals mass times acceleration is usually written F=ma... just the way Newton did it.

I'd ask you the same question. Your holier than thou attitude has obscured your knowledge of the facts. And your correction is incorrect as well.

F=ma is Newton's second law, which is not about force equaling mass times acceleration, but rather that an applied force on an object equals the rate of change of its momentum with time. Since the second law applies to an object with constant mass (dm/dt = 0), the first term vanishes, and by substitution using the definition of acceleration, the equation can be written in the iconic form F=ma.

And what I said is wrong, because....?

You can quote out of a textbook all you want, but if you don't understand what you're typing, you have the words but not the music.

Cute. If you don't understand the difference, the conversation is over. I'm not going to waste time explaining it to someone who thinks they know everythine.
