justme1980 -> Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 11:09:39 AM)

After reading a post about submissives requiring tributes I started wondering

A prostitute by legal definition is someone who engages in a sexual activity in exchange for money or goods

If activities that make use of the genital areas of the anatomy constitute sexual activity
IE- Strapon play, ass play, cbt, dilation, enemas, body worship, orgasm control, fisting, queening, rimming and watersports. Items such as vibrators, dildos or butt plugs that come into contact with genitals

Then anyone accepting tributes is therefore classified as a prostitute and guilty of acts of prostitution

Yes? No? Maybe?

or... maybe I don't care? I don't have any loading on the word "prostitute" so you might as well be asking me, "are we truck drivers?" I dunno, it's just a job. who cares? I suppose the authorities might care, but I'm not them. They can do their own detective work.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 11:17:03 AM)

not if we self-identify as sluts and demand nothing...no after-care or even a phone call afterwards...in return.

To be totally honest, I don't care enough, to spend enough time thinking about it, to give a definitive answer.

justme1980 -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 11:29:15 AM)

the government has hit craig's list pretty hard and while I support their efforts, what's to stop them if all of a sudden they get a bug up their butts and start poking around the bdsm web sites. I know that is some areas the bdsm dungeons have been taking heat from time to time

SomethingCatchy -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 11:33:54 AM)

That's like saying a man taking a woman out to dinner and then having sex with her afterwards 'paid her' to have sex with him. Are we supposed to stop going on dates or just give up the booty for nothing?

Or how about a man who buys a huge diamond ring for his girlfriend to marry him and then she sleeps with him afterwards and there's an unspoken promise that she'll continue to sleep with him as his wife... is that prostitution since he's given her something of great monetary value and she had sex with him and plans to for a very long time?

And you can't really argue that those acts are innocent. 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse.'

Yes, but if both parties are fine with it, good for them.

hey just ..are you a cop ? sounds like it ..if so tell your good buddys to worry about other crimes where people are getting hurt ..like rape ..muggings ..robbery ...murder ...what happens behind closed doors between 2 consenting adults should be none of the cops business as far as im concerned [:)] if the ladys charge ..its up to the person to pay it ..all in good nature of course because he is paying for a service ..no one gets hurt ..no one is harmed ..tell cops to eat more donuts or go out there and do their real job instead of hassling people that just want to have fun [:)] ok just ? good day ..mal

You say that like it's a bad thing. Who are you to judge?

Another thread on omg! Prostitutes!

A Pro sub, Pro Domme, and a prostitute will be up front with you as to what they want and expect and what they are going to cost you. Many men's wives did not do that. :) If you are a slave or sub you still cost something, food, shelter, etc.
Everything is a trade-off. You do something for me, I do something for you. There has to be an exchange of energy, however two or more consenting adults choose to do it.

You do?  It seems to me that driving sex workers further underground is a sure way to make them more defenseless and vulnerable, at the same time as more women (and men) will consider such jobs as a source of income because of the crappy economy.  It's a recipe for human misery.

the answer is a definitive YES; and a police officer or city with a bug up their ass does not care what sub-community it is. Prostitution is prostitution is prostitution. Though I have heard innuendo that sometimes the definition can also be slanted in other directions too and still be held up in court as a legitimate arrest.

Not an officer nor do I play one in real life; I just take note of 'things'.

No. Not all relationships are sexual; some are service based. What about those who offer service only in exchange for X, Y, or Z?

According to your own words, they can not be called 'prostitutes' because they do not engage in sexual activity.

The thing is.....it doesn't natter if a domme or sub asks for a tribute or an escort charges for their services or even if it's a person working at a strip club to earn money to pay for their education, each have their own reasons for doing so. None of us are godlings with the right to say that is wrong and you must be punished.
  As many have said, we prostitute ourselves just by going out on a date: we give the enjoyment of our company to one who buys us dinner and maybe sex afterward. I mean hell....I remember a time where I wasn't earning enough to pay rent so I had this arrangement with my landlord for reduced rent in exchange for him having use of my body when his wife wasn't putting out. So of that made me a prostitute, oh well..... life happens.

oceanwinds -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 12:08:53 PM)

Tribute to some people conjurs up the concept of prostitution. In my eyes, we all sell something or have at one time in our life. Might not be sex, but I seen people sell their core values for something they thought another could give them, instead of themselves. It doesn't have to be only material things to be prostitution.

who cares?

first off, I think prostitution of any kind should be completely legal.

secondly, if I lived near a place where prostitution was legal (e.g. the bunny ranch) I'd most certainly use its services.

and number three, I adore the idea of professional subs, although I don't think such a thing exists. is it a form of prostitution? I suppose...kinda. I don't really care about such categorizations. all I know is someone offers a service and I'm willing to offer them something they desire.

Missokyst -> RE: Are We Prostitutes? (6/22/2009 12:11:09 PM)

I never could understand why prostitution is illegal.  Same thing goes for tributes, because if someone is willing to offer a service, someone else is either willing to pay or they seek things out elsewhere.
Obviously with this attitude one can tell I don't see a problem with either.  I do however have issues with people that assume because we are kinky we are willing to do what ever, when ever and with whom ever.  Sub still equates to slut in a lot of minds out there.  I think people's aversion to prostitution stems from their distaste for having to pay for something they believe should be free.

The way I see it, the government has no business telling us what is moral or not. It's always been my opinion that religion influenced the 'law' to make up regulations on sex, evidence being that in some states sodomy is illegal, oral sex is illegal, and in the military any position besides missionary is illegal. Smells like 'sex for procreation' to me.
