I'm sure "everyone's answer will be different".

Just curious about how people view mundane chores like this within the context of their relationships.

Who does the dishes??? Who ever I bloody well decide will do them!

Often both together in the late afternoon/starting of the evening, during we cook.

Sometimes one of us is doing the dishes alone.

Master and i have always split the chores up pretty fairly. We've always said that even if I found a full time sub, that would not be an excuse to get rid of all our chores. We are both believers in everyone contributing to the upkeep of a household. In our new mobile home life, a bit of rearranging of chores was inevitable, but it's still a pretty fair split.

He does the pet care stuff - feeding, watering, cleaning the kitty litter, taking the dog out most times. However, He doesn't do pet medical stuff, so i am the one who gets to bath and groom them, clean out mucky ears etc! He also does the physical work of setting the van up, plus maintenance such as emptying out the waste tanks (so glad i don't do that one!). He also keeps the couch in place (grin) but, more often than not, will be the One who carts the rubbish bag to the bin. And He sets up the computer gear and tunes in the TV. He also exercises great patience when i've got absorbed in my work and forgotten to cook dinner! And He has been known to sweep the van out a couple of times. When we're on the move, He does the lion's share of the driving because He enjoys it so much, but it's my job to keep Him entertained with chat, crossword puzzles, reading books aloud to Him ... it's a bit of a relief when He opts for music! When parking the van, it's my job to be out there with walkie-talkie being the reversing camera, while He has complained sometimes about confusing directions, He's had to admit i'm way better than anyone else who has tried!

i do the laundry, the cleaning (dusting definitely, i don't mind doing the vacuuming and mopping too though sometimes He likes to play with the vacuum Himself!), all the cooking and ... the dishes! Of all those, the dishes is my least favourite job and if (when, thinking positively!) I have a subbie, the dishes WILL be their job! However, we also rarely need to scrape them, having a willing doggie tongue (and also sometimes a raspy cat one) just under the table! i also plan the menus, liaise with the mail forwarding person, make bookings and appointments, and am working on my PhD and other odd jobs for income. When we get gigs however, we share the setting up but the heavy work falls to Him, but we both perform. We also shop for groceries together though i suspect the bill would be a little less if He'd let me go alone LOL!

The final caveat is ... that if either of us is unwell, the other picks up the slack without needing to be asked. And sometimes we do the other person's chores just as a nice surprise, as an "i love you" thing. When He does the dishes ... i love Him everso much LOL!

There's no sub here ATM, so I have to do them myself.  I usually do dishes as I cook, which is just a quick wipe with a soapy rag then into the dishwasher.  The house teenager is kind of a lazy cuss and she'll let dishes sit which drives me insane and she knows it as we talked about it yet again today, which didn't stop her from leaving the supper dishes on the stove again.

It is habit for me to do dishes as I cook, but a sub would handle any and everything else.  The house runs smoother with a sub in it as I work midnights so it's nice to have someone functional during regular "people hours".

We don't live together, but when we are together we kind of share the duties. I am a little more concerned about getting the dishes done than she is, so I ususally do a big part of it. I can tolerate having a few things in the sink for a while, but not a lot of stuff on it or an uncleaned stove etc. If I have been the one doing most of the preparing and/or cooking however, she is more eager to take care of the dishes. It's hard to say who does what the most. Pretty equal, I would say.

normally, the house faerie arrives once he goes to work, and allllll the chores get done over the space of a week.  he cooks, i'm on cleanup of all sorts.

right now its not "normally" because i cant bend without pain.  so since the imp is here, i have slave labor to call upon.

the imp has been taught all the skills necessary to keep up batchelorhood all by himself.  AND he emails me for recipes when he's at his dad's house.  smart kid.

This topic made me smile for a few reasons...and most of the answers were kind of expected, in that it depends not only on the dynamic between a couple but also on the routine, habit, preferences of each partner etc. It would seem that the day to day aspects of life largely follow the same rules for D/s relationships as vanilla ones.

i suppose all i would add is that for *me* it's about that end decision... If Sir decides that he is washing the dishes and i am drying them, or that i am doing both (or even he is), then that is that. Yeah, consistency and routine is nice, comfortable but i guess ultimately it's about Sir having that ultimate decision.

They are done by whomever I have assigned the task to.  If he or she is doing something that I think is more important, I might even do them myself.

I think the person best qualified to do it should do it or the person who dislikes the chore the least should do it.

So I love to cook and does my slave but in that case I'm the owner so I decide to cook most of the time -- Fox can be my sous chef... lol.

My husband hates to cook so he does the dishes because he is neutral about that.

Right now, there's no pet in residence, so the kidlet does the dishes, as they are the one chore that I loathe and will go to great lengths to avoid. He doesn't mind, in fact, likes it because he has the time and quiet to run over particle physics in his head (yeah, I know, I've got the strange kid). When there is a pet in residence, the pet does them, along with most household chores, although I can and will cook and do laundry.

I have many talents, but domesticity is definitely NOT among them...

Well, I suppose really paul does the dishes more in terms of volume than I do as he washes up after supper and there are more dirty dishes around then.

During the day when he is out a work, I do the breakfast and my own lunch washing /drying up as it would be mean of me to leave them for him when he is out of the house from 7am until at least 6pm.

I also tend to do most of the ordinary housework despite being the dominant one in our relationship. I am at home all the time and so it just makes sense plus I happen to enjoy doing most forms of housework.

I know, strip me,roll me in tar and feathers and throw me out of the Domes Union but it is true. I like ironing and hoovering.
