quote:
ORIGINAL: Firebirdseeking I find it deeply offensive that no matter what Israel does, she as a nation gets criticized. I find it offensive that 6 million Jews were genocided and Israel still has to defend itself and its right to exist. I do not defend everything the Israeli government does defensible, but I dont live there. I am not living in a country the size of New Jersey, surrounded by Arab hatred. What many do not understand is how deeply the Holocaust is embedded in the psyche of most Jews, just as the slavery experience here is embedded in the psyche of African Americans in this country. Try living there before you level your criticisms. If dwelling in Israel is a pre-requisite to adverse judgement, how is it not equally a pre-requisite to positive judgement, or indeed any judgement whatever? Presumably we must also make no judgement of the Iranian government or its policy, since we have not dwelt there? This is good news indeed, for relieved of any possibility to take a view on foreign relations or international news, we all shall have far more free time to study debating technique - for use solely within our own personal neighbourhoods of course since we can have no valid view on events even two streets away.
