Well, I would like to thank everyone who has responded, and the thread has certainly given me some thought-seeds.

After a great deal of consideration, I think that I definitely understand the mindset better, but it's also become more apparent to me that I'm not in the pro-strap-on pool. I think that, for me, it comes down to a feeling that I get from a strap-on, in particular, that, in order to dominate, or be sexual, or whatever, that leaves me with the 'flavor' in my mind of having to have turned myself into an 'imitation man'... which seems, somehow, to discount the capacity and adequacy of who I am and the skills I have with the body I already possess.

The thing is, it isn't rational, because I still occasionally enjoy vibrators and insertables... but it's specifically the issue of the harness and strapping on the false 'penis' that really confused me (not so much now) and which I've come to understand just isn't one of my 'things'. To me, somehow, in a very visceral and irrational way, it feels like a lie. Now that I understand how and why many dominant women enjoy them, I feel more certain in saying that this isn't going to be an area where I am going to be interested in exploring. I think I'll stick to my needles.

To be honest, I've never played around with strap-ons.

But for me, as I enjoy play with butt plugs, it is just the next step. Of course if/when that happens I may not like it, but I would like to think it would be like butt plug play but with a partner in control.

I guess the other aspect that I enjoy the thought of, is pleasuring a partner or Mistress, without being allowed to have any sexual penetration(I guess a little humiliation in that possibly).

Both of these thing are very appealing to me, so to answer your question...that is the appeal.

I can't speak for everybody else, but in my case it's the role reversal, the fact that I can make him "my bitch", I penetrate him while having my hands free and he's the one who "takes it".

Possibly more than anything it's the power exchange that takes place, and it's nice to taunt him that my strapon won't go limp.

Not that I'm against hand held dildos, but it's just different, plus I like the fact that I can change sizes
