ORIGINAL: Venatrix Yes, it *is* a problem with the Internet, in general. The thing is, a lot of us would never cross paths if we didn't meet on the Internet, so I think the trick is going to be finding a strategy that allows us to remain positive enough to continue making connections with "quality" people (urgh, that was elitist, wasn't it?) and overlooking the ones who sap us of our desire to keep on going. I agree with your comment about the Internet - I am in a rather small, conservative town, and would not have the opportunities to meet people were it not for the Internet. That being said, it is a tricky business, trying to determine who is "real", who is a player, etc. That happens not just here, but I think is a common complaint about meeting on the Internet. One of the biggest problems I have with meeting online is that relationships seem to move at a quicker pace - email, chats, etc. make accessibility, at least online, so easy. There is a false sense of intimacy, because the traditional way of meeting, courting, getting to know someone is both accelerated and intensified. I refer to it sometimes as "Internet time", as in we've been chatting every day for 2 weeks - that's like 2 months in real time! LOL. But spending all that time (investing it, as DarkSteven said in a different thread), can still sap your spirit when it doesn't turn out. Must be the optimist in me that keeps going. Warmly, LD
