OrionTheWolf -> 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/7/2009 5:32:30 PM)

" NEW YORK, July 7 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks fell to their lowest level in 10 weeks on Tuesday as talk of a second government stimulus plan heightened fears that the economy is not yet on the path to recovery and that the corporate earnings season starting this week will be weak. "

Even more deficit spending on the way?

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/7/2009 6:06:05 PM)

I'm sorry, but the "Chicken Little" mentality just isn't making it for me... we need to stop letting fear make our decisions for us and just hang tight long enough to see what's -really- going on. The short-sightedness that has been the foundation of American economic policy for nearly 3 decades (if not a bit more) is getting doggone ridiculous!

(sighs)

Did you read the article? This is not chicken little mentality, it is news about 1) Stocks being at a 10 week low and 2)the correlation with talks about even more stimulus being needed. Those two things are actually occuring, and not a warning that the sky is falling.

How can anyone be talking about more stimulus, especially politicians and their economist they pay? Do they not understand that it has an impact on things just to talk about it?

In lieu of talking of such things, what do you propose the head in the sand option?

OrionTheWolf -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/7/2009 8:26:25 PM)

What an excellent dig. Maybe if you want to actually discuss things in a less antagonistic manner, I may actually give you an answer. If you have read any of my posts, you would know that the head in the sand technique is not something I promote.

I don't think he meant it as a dig, only that some type of action had to be taken and maybe we need to wait a little longer to see how it plays out.

Sometimes things need to bottom out before the measures take effect.

Not a dig ...a response to your statement that talking about these things tend to have negative effect.....and I understand that...but on the other hand....we need to talk about these things!!!!!

OrionTheWolf -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/7/2009 9:21:43 PM)

I just propose the head in the sand technique, like you said. Sorry but unlike some others, I have no need to play your game.

Loki, it wasn't a joke.

I was just pointing out there was no link.

And it has happened to me before when I made a post and forgot to add the link.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 5:33:37 AM)

Oops. Yep I did forget.

The stock market will not recover anytime soon. With businesses big and small bearing the brunt of ever increasing regulations and higher taxes, people will sit on the sidelines with their investment dollars. A pro-business administration that would lower taxes is what we need now...

There are always foreign stocks. Why not invest in China, India, or Mexico? They have business-friendly governments.

I have some of my stuff invested in China and India already. We stayed out of Mexico. To much turmoil right now..

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Bush administration pro-business and anti-regulation?

How did that all work out?

Interesting.

You complain constantly of the evils of socialism but have no problem investing in a country with a repressive communist regime.

Ah, the wonderful hypocrisy of modern capitalism.

Sanity -> RE: 10 Week Low amid Talks of New Stimulus (7/8/2009 6:33:16 AM)

It's not hypocrisy at all. Business is business. The wealthy can't invest in the U.S.  - Obama has declared war on Capitalism.

And the money has to go somewhere.

It's a fact of life in a global economy. G M sells more cars in China than they sell in the U S. The pro business ideal worked out pretty nicely for me. I retired while George was in office with a comfy income.

No, you're right.

I think the proper term would be blatant greed.

Our State Dept. condemns China's human rights abuses while we are pouring money into the country to support the regime that is responsible for those abuses.
