What gets to me is the ABUSE of this system which is designed to help those who NEED IT, not those who see it as an Expectation. Shortly after I moved to St George UT I remember going for my BIG "Get every fucking thing I need to cook for the next month" shopping trip. After an hour of Shopping I rolled up to the Check out where there were Three Polygamist Women (Trust me they are not difficult to Spot) and each had a cart FULL, More full than mine. And they were all together The total came to just over $1700.00 and then in DISGUST I watched as 2 of them Each took a Turn running thier EBT card (Food Stamp Credit Card) COVERING THE ENTIRE BILL. I paid for my Groceries and went outside where I watched them load all the groceries into a BRAND FUCKING NEW 2006 Dodge Pickup extended cab. The Kicker is that all the Older boys were wearing the Contractor Shirts of the Construction company that their father owned. Who was who was sitting in the truck. This was during the Housing BOOM and I knew for a fact that they had just fininshed building 17 Million Dollar or more homes. I was Disgusted but guess how this all works. Because they cannot be legally married you technically have a single mother with 4 or more kids who is also not working and this gives them the MAXIMUM amount of Assistance. The SICKEST part is that I know they also received $250.00 a Month CASH on the card for Other things. They were not in NEED they just know how to fuck the system. I was on Food stamps when andi had the Midget because even with working two jobs it wasn't enough to cover the bills and the food so in addition to WIC and The Help of some wonderful organizations we got what we needed but I got OFF of it as SOON as I could stand on my own two feet. Shit just makes me Fucking Sick. Anyone who Abuses systems gets what they deserve when there isn't anything left to abuse. Steel

Wow, makes sense that does not. Was I around when that happened? No. Did I have anything to do with it? No. Do I think that we should give people that are distantly related to the victims of those crimes money for the rest of their lives? No. I'm just like everyone else, a stranger born into a world I didn't create. I'm not taking the blame for anything that came before me just because of the color of my skin.

So essentially all that came before you means not a whit. If you weren't around to personally have a hand in some great missdeed done to a people....skip any attempt at redress? Haha, and out of nowhere a personal attack? Way to show strength and maturity in an argument. You really zing'd me with that one, you random nobody on the internet. Education notwithstanding, I have something you clearly don't: real life experience with the Saginaw Chippewa Indians. I also know of many other tribes that hate the Saginaw tribe. The tribe up in Traverse City hates them, and calls them, "trash eating seagulls".

You're not paying for sins...those lands, and certain support were part of agreements made between Native tribes and the US Government. It grieves me that people detest a group of people that have so very little for the little they have. Reservation life is horrible. It has a certain dehumanizing effect on those that live it. If it's any solace to you, the quality of life on many reservations is quite below the level of some third-world countries. For every Navigator, there are several homes with sub-standard plumbing and amenities. Feel better now?

Just the one I have several years of first hand experience with, the Saginaw Tribe. And trust me, they don't live in squalid conditions.

So if they lived in squalid conditions would it make it more palatable to you? Whether their conditions are good or not is beside the point. It doesn't change the fact that during the forced removal to federal reservations, certain support was promised in exchange for the land and rights taken away from people whose only crime was being here first.

No, it wouldn't make anything more palatable for me. My question is, should people that get $2000 a week, every week of every year, be on a program aimed at feeding the poor?

What is really sad is that there is a need for assistance at all and the fact that to get food stamps, one must have a place to cook the food at. When they become homeless, I wonder what will happen next. No home, no food stamps... Unless they change the guidelines, what little help those in need could get, they could lose at a more serious point of need. And what happens when there are more in need than those not in need can afford? Personally I believe that day is coming.

Well I looked into it and the payments are required by treaty, do not amount to anything close to $2000 week per person and aren't taxable income due to the treaty. All the US gets for that is the entire state of Michigan. I say stop it all and let them have it all back if them getting food stamps is so awful.
