The woman's reply, with predicable backstepping

This election is supposed to happen this weekend during the YR convention happening in Indianapolis

Implosion? this is what you come up with? LMAO

MarsBonfire -> RE: GOP implosion continues, post-Sarah Palin (7/11/2009 8:56:59 AM)

Well, I suppose we could say that the GOP has injected it's own core with "red matter" and is now busy with being eaten up from the inside by their own sigularity of bullshit...

...if you'd rather, that is.

Arpig -> RE: GOP implosion continues, post-Sarah Palin (7/11/2009 8:57:35 AM)

What I find interesting is that this woman is running for chair of the Young Republicans, and she is 38...how old does a Republican have to be to be considered grown up?

Yep. Laughing at the matter is exactly why the melt down will continue.

I voted republican in every election for the last 20 years, except this one. I was having a tough time with it, but after I watched Gen Powell that Sunday morning, I felt a lot better about my decision.

The very fact that the GOP was actually looking at Sarah Palin as the front runner for 2012 says a lot. It's almost as if no one in GOP leadership was actually paying attention when she spoke.

What the GOP should do is, first, reign in Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. Tell them to lay off Gen Powell. Next they should bring Gen Powell in, ask him exactly what lead him to conclude that the party had lost it's way, sit down, shut up and listen to what he has to say.

A great Republican president gave his life fighting to keep this country together. Today's GOP has grown more and more divisive over the last few years.

servantforuse -> RE: GOP implosion continues, post-Sarah Palin (7/11/2009 9:12:49 AM)

The G O P will again start to win elections when we get back to our conservative roots. Having a liberal like Colin Powell giving advice to republicans is the last thing we need.

MarsBonfire -> RE: GOP implosion continues, post-Sarah Palin (7/11/2009 9:18:45 AM)

Soul,

Thanks for your honest opinions. Essentially, you're saying the same thing as many of us have (although in your case, you're being far more polite about it.) The GOP has fallen into the hands of the party extremists. As such, they can no longer be taken seriously by the bulk of America. Their policies, even unto the time of Reagan, have led the US to the brink of economic collapse, and in the last eight years stretched the military on the ground so thin that it may take it a decade to recover. If, as you say, they were to reject the extremist blowhards and actually start offering some of these much vaunted ideas that they claim to be all about... Well, they might actually be able to rebuild themselves. (instead, they have become the party of "no" and when asked for alternatives, we are all greeted with a deafening silence.) A healthy two party system is what the US needs. (I've always felt that the US runs at it's best when the two parties are equal, and gridlocked, and thus end up staying the hell out of the way of people's freedoms.

I joke and snipe at the GOP a lot on this forum, it's true. But only because the republicans themselves hung the "Kick Me" sign on their backs when they began acting as criminals. I really, honestly, wish that BOTH parties would take a big step toward the center, and stay there!

That's exactly what the problem is. It used to be that when someone dedicated his life to serving the country, he was respected for all he has done. Now, when he breaks ranks, he's "too liberal".

He wasn't "too liberal" to serve in two republican administrations. But now he is?

When you lose a good executive like Gen Powell, you should be asking yourself why, not calling him names.

The melt down is a liberal fiction to try to maintain control they are obviously loosing. Between the "blue dog" democrats jumping ship on health care to grass roots gathers to Obama's sagging public support, the progressives are starting to panic.

Do you still feel good about it? Colin Powell doesn't and has publicly said so.

You mean like no one paid attention when Obama spoke? If he can get elected, why can't she? She has more experience and credibility than he does, at this point.

Why? Why should anyone have their free speech infringed? All Rush and Dick have done is point out to Powell what Powell is now saying himself. Is their sin that they did so before the election? That they are holding him accountable for his actions? Or that they are saying that they told him so?

DemandingLeader -> RE: GOP implosion continues, post-Sarah Palin (7/11/2009 10:05:03 AM)

Right on target both times, Soul, although I suspect you meant the GOP should marginalize and laugh at the Rush fringe rather than control their speech as Naga presumes.

I think Powell is a bit disappointed in Obama's performance in the first 6 months, but when it came to Obama or Palin on the button, it was a no-brainer for Powell. Palin was the big reason behind many high profile GOPer voting Obama.

Experience? No, obviously his 6 months office give him more experience. Credibility? Obama has proven he doesnt have a clue how to run a country or an economy, or even his own party. Id say that gives her a credibility edge, since she is an unknown at the national level.

Lucylastic -> RE: GOP implosion continues, post-Sarah Palin (7/11/2009 10:22:49 AM)

She just resigned....how has she got a shred of crediibility about having the bollocks to run the country

Easy..an unknown with even a rudimentary education could do a better job than Obama is. Experience as a governor could only help. The resignation has nothing to do with ability and nobody denies that she did a good job in Alaska except the people she put in jail/removed from office or die hard partisans.

Amazing.

Words escape me.

I can only wonder if the same thing would have happened if McCain was elected.

Would she have said "Gosh, this is really like a hard job ya know, and I don't think I really want to do this anymore".

I love how you and others seem to gloss over the fact that there was a Democratic Congress under Reagan and Bush Sr. We had Bill Clinton for 8 years with a Democratic Congress for most of the 1st half of his term, and then a Republican Congress for the rest of it. I guess Congress has nothing to do with the economy and military policy at all. [8|] It's both parties that have caused all this. But y'all keep picking sides as though there was a lick of fucking difference between the two. Obama isn't that far left on either economic or social issues than our last President, or the one before that, or the one before that, and so on.

If you think he is, I want some of what you're smoking. His policies on gay marriage, gays in the military, drug legalization, etc. aren't different and weren't different during the election from any of the previous Presidents. He is a death penalty supporter. He made a lot of claims about shutting down Guantanamo, but he's backpedaling on that shit. He made claims about a lot of things, that he is now having to be a realist about. So like I said, keep on thinking that you're getting a different kind of politics. You're fooling yourself. I myself have become more and more apathetic. I'm just going to sit back and watch it burn.

Its official....credibility has left this particular building.....and is not expected to return anytime soon.

IMO, both viable parties have fallen into the hands of party extremists and can no longer be taken seriously by the bulk of America.  No one gives a sh*t about America, just hurting the other side or padding their own situations.  Pelosi is just as scarey as Palin, and Biden is a joke.

I whole heartedly agree.  I would not even mind 2 parties that were at extreme ends of the spectrum if they could give a crap about the country long enough to work together for a compromise on issues that would work for the benefit of the country.  If they could just quit keeping score and work together, I think we would end up in the center most of the time, despite the parties being on one extreme or the other.  This pendulum swinging back and forth between the extremes, though, and the bitterness and venom people spew (BOTH sides) to make their point is sickening.

Every SUCCESSFUL marriage I have ever seen that began with "opposites attract" is successful because both parties give a sh*t about the union as a whole.  They realize that in order for one person to win, the other has to lose.  That's not so good for the health of the whole.  They <gasp> compromise!
