Now that I think about it, I better go see it at the theater, last movie I watched at home, Dark Knight, neighbor came pounding on my door. I didn't even have the thing turned up as loud as I normally would. The sound in the motor cycle scene was especially thrilling. I think I'm going to have to move to enjoy my movies the way I like usually want to. These old geesers.

And, for those not familiar with Cohen's schitck, he plays this role (as he did with Borat) alongside non-actors, people that have no idea what he's really doing, making for some tense, and funny, moments. Now, not everyone in the movie is unaware of what's going on, and I'd like to know how much of this is really the case. The part where Bruno goes to the military (in an attempt to become straight) seemed too "staged", but mostly, I believe that Cohen is pulling the wool over most of his "co-stars" eyes.

Glad you liked, Level. I thought of you & your wondering in the OP of this thread when I was reading it . . . . . [:D] It sounds like making a movie with Baron Cohen is quite thrilling / risky / scary / exciting . . . . ETA: I'm pretty sure I would not be willing to have a gun pulled on me to get a movie made . . . . .

Saw the new Harry Potter movie, what a disappointment. While the others have been true to the books, this one was lame...

I don't really go to the movies that often... But I did go and see "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" not too long ago. It was just as you would imagine, no huge scary endings that you wern't looking forward to. The one movie I will tell you that was awful was the new-er one with Antonio Bandaras and Morgan Freeman (I think it was called The Code??). I rented it and fell asleep.

Brian DePalma RAPED the history of the Black Dahlia, and I LIKE the author, and am creeped out and fascinated by the historical tale, but, with no spoilers, less than 1/4 of the film deals with the Title. and that is prickteasing at it's worst, it's like calling "Ghost" a "scary movie about Hauntings".

I saw Half-Blood Prince at the opening midnight showing (tradition with the ums and all that). Since most people have read the book, there really are no spoilers, so... I was disappointed. It was funny and entertaining, but I feel it was too light. This is the penultimate book/movie. It is leading to the final showdown and the movie was mostly was about the mating rituals of the students. Funny, yes, foreboding, no. You hardly got a sense of the storm brewing; there were no Auror battles, hardly a mention of all the dark happenings and killings going on and so many secondary characters were barely there or totally missing. Bill and Fleur didn't even make it, Tonks and Lupin had one short scene. The whole clock tower confrontation was lame- it was supposed to be in the heat of battle. There was no battle, just a few Death Eaters walking into Hogwarts unchallenged. I know the reviews are good. These are just my problems with it. No movie can do what the books do, but the timbre of this movie was wrong, IMO.

We saw Ice Age 3 last weekend. I was nervous because it was rated PG but i was assured by friends there was nothing that would upset the kiddo. They were right...it was adorable.

I have to partially agree with the comments so far about the Harry Potter film. It felt a bit like time-filler to set up for the last movie. I expected more out of the clock tower scene. The book had me weeping at that point..and the loss for Harry seemed so intense. The movie version was too quiet,no battle, no real building up to the climatic end of Dumbledore, not enough shock and loss for Harry. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the film..but it seemed too light-hearted to be so close to the end of the series when everything should be growing more intense. It moved the story line forward for the romances, but not much else.

I'll still go see it just because I'm a fan and I have nothing else to do Sunday morning. There were few things left out of Chamber of Secrets, but I started noticing the larger holes with Prisoner of Azkaban. As the books became longer, more was left out of the movies. Remember Order of the Pheonix made no mention of the locket, which plays a role in a major scene in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.

I saw the Half Blood Prince yesterday morning, and I enjoyed it. I agree they spent too much time on the mating rituals, and that there was no attempt to try and tell the full story. As with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you were lost if you had not read the books. Still, I thought it was worth the price for the big screen.

We went to see Harry Potter at the midnight showing Wednesday morning. I have read all the books and was a little disappointed at some of the things I considered important that were left out. But I did enjoy the movie just as much, if not more, than the last one. I liked the humor in the movie and see no reason why there can't be humor and still be that underlying sense that things are getting very serious. I also know there is no way that they could fit everything from the book into the movie. It just isn't possible. I do think some of the main adult characters could have been given at least smaller parts in the movie with no real problem. Having said all that, everyone in my family loved the movie. We are anxiously awaiting the next one.

I am not expecting much. To be honest, I was not impressed with the earlier ones either. Especially if compared with the books they come up short, and I had the niggling feeling that somebody not knowing the books would have had trouble following the storyline at some points. I just got "Knowing" yesterday. I haven't been to a real theater in ages...the last thing I saw in one was "Wild Hogs". "Knowing" was okay, I guess....it just didn't go in the direction I thought it would from the movie trailers. I'll watch it again, I'm sure......I do like Nicolas Cage.......I also have "Next", which was good, but again, the ending just left you there. I'm not a huge HP fan....I have yet to read any of the books gasp, and I've seen bits and pieces of the movies, just not sure which ones they were. But I've never been a huge fan of movies developed from popular books....they tend to get ruined by whomever it is that makes them. Sometimes, poetic license sucks!

"but I feel it was too light" Most people who read source material feel this way, but (unfairly) the people that do the hiring/firing/manipulation of projects in Hollywood arr RARELY readers (they often don't even read scripts and pay Readers - an actual job industry - to read FOR them and give them notes so they can go to movies and seem "informed"). Most people making big decisions about movies are 20-something business school-alumni shitbags that have never written a dear Jane letter much less a script, much less having spent a week in film school. The bulk of these "Seth Rogan is so funny" maggots couldn't even tell you what a malapropism was. They'd tell you they don't have their oncoligist on speed dial but they'll get back to you. These guys think dark is the men's room stall where they get their cocaine bump and the $30 East Okland styyle blow job to go with it.

Cohen seems to be an interesting character himself, but also is quite shy lol, so that adds to the mystique. And he has a smoking hot g/f [8D]
