I have cats and yes each one thinks he/she is the boss or owner. And each one has their own distinct personality. What I love though, is that one person told me he couldn't stand cats because they are too independent and have no personality. The independent part is correct but no personality? Mine I swear have multiple ones.

My cat, Socks, adopted me. She was stray who wandered in one night and then kept coming back. Then she got pregnant (the little slut) and I couldn't leave her behind when we moved. She is definately all mine now and makes that sound ALL the freaking time! She makes it when I go to the kitchen, if I have a snack in living room, if I'm laying on the couch and didn't make room for her to lie on my chest, when I go to bed, just anytime she isn't sleeping. She had her kittens, and had a VERY tough time, ended up with 2 still born and one living. Ugliest kitten I ever laid eyes on for real. Looks like she spilled a paint pallete on herself of pukey colors. Named her "Fugs." She will be 4 weeks old on Thursday, mom feeds her and leaves her under the bed so she can hog all the attention for herself.

Yea, I guess my cat owns me.

Cat litter will also soak up oil spilled on your garage floor....

Yeah but using the cat works so much better.  Easier to dispose of too.

(And they're self cleaning).

Considering how clearly Punky and Queenie tell me exactly what to do WHEN they want it, and how all of my cats have ruled my life, I just confess to being a priestess of Bubastis (ancient Egyptian cat Goddess, also known as Bast or Bastet) in a previous life.

This was seriously one of those "well, hey, dumbass, I could have told you that YEARS ago" moments.

FR:

I have a cat. She's from Bossier City, LA. So I call her my Cajun cat. My little brother was living down there, and his landlord threatened to charge him $1k for having a pet without permission, so I got her. Ive had her for 12 years now. She is blind in one eye. She is a little diva, but I love her to death. She makes that annoying meow when she wants a drink of water. I have to turn the bathroom faucet on to a low trickle. She refuses to drink out of a bowl for some reason. She wakes me up in the morning with her meows. She stands over my face and does it until I wake up. She insists on that meow when she is hungry for something else other than the usual dry food I leave out for her. She stands outside and meows when she has brought me one of her kills. Sometimes they are still alive; I had to finish off a sqeaking chipmunk last year because of her; I was not happy about that.

Have you tried one of those pet water fountains? Many cats dislike standing water, and those fountains seem to work nicely for that. At least they do with my cats.

a cat that wants to drink out of a faucet is lacking in a mineral that they get from licking the metal. It has been so long i forget what the mineral is...but this info is per my vet

My cat will only drink bottled water and sometimes will complain until I throw an ice cube or two in the water to boot. The bottled water is already cold, so that's not the explaination. Personally, I think she is just the snootiest stray who ever existed.

cats independent??........who has been telling you stories (when my daughter's cat lived here, she had to be where i was and if i was on my puter she would curl up and sleep in a ball right by my mouse.......i had maybe 1'' of moving space available to me (so tiny lift and shift mouse moves) LOL

Independent...aloof...no personality...there's tons of misinformation about cats out there. Remember Rhett Butler telling Scarlett, "Why, a cat's a better mother than you!"? What a load! I observed my Molly mothering her kittens before I lured them into the house, and she was incredibly attentive and protective. So now I live with Molly, her three kittens, and my originals, Otis and Daisy, making a total of six. They're loving, devoted companions and quite a hoot to boot. I don't really feel like a cat slave except for maybe when they wake me up at 4:30 a.m. for food and I actually get up and comply...or maybe just a little slavish every evening when I refill a water bowl and let Otis drink from it while I (at his insistence) hold it at just the right height for him...it's just a little ritual we do once a day. Kinda like the ritual with Daisy, in which she calls me into the kitchen so I can hover over her protectively while she eats... Nope, they're not the boss of me. Not a bit.

I used to use a one gallon water dispenser jug thingy (my brain is lacking words tonight) - not a fountain - by my little guy insisted on taking it apart, soaking the kitchen floor daily.  It made for a clean kitchen floor, if nothing else.  Now he gets a bowl.

As for cats owning us, well, I'm still in denial

my cat doesn't use pitiful manipulation, she goes straight to violence.

I'm right there with ya, Pyro.....mine will actually HEAD BUTT me in the middle of the night, or day, if I'm sleeping then to get me up because he THINKS he's hungry.

What's even worse is he'll start knocing things off tables, counters, desks, or any other high place because he knows I'll get up, then it's just a matter of "MOM....FEEEEEEED ME NNNNOOOOOWWWWWW!  And I'll feed the little bastage just to get him to leave me alone!  Fortunately, he's the only one out of 4 who does this......but they too are right there with there little chirps and big eyes.  But I dod almost always get a "thanks, Mom" when he's done.

First, denial is a river in Egypt, dear......

I have a second water bowl in my bedroom (of course) for the last little kitteh I adopted....the boys are still snotty to her and I can't figure out why.  It's not a fountain, but a self waterer......she used to dismantle it until I literally duct taped the damn thing together......now she can't get it off.  Well, until she figures out the tape anyway......so far, so good! The fountain is in the living room.....the boys love it, the water is cold, and because of the flow, it makes a great place to teach little furry mice how to swim.......NOT!!!!!

When I brought Alley home from the shelter she hid under my bed for the first 12 hours or so. Finally my kids coaxed her out from under the bed and they put her up on the bed. She spied my fleece Philadelphia Eagles blanket folded at the bottom of the bed and she promptly went over to it and curled up on it. It is now "hers". The rest is history...

I will say though, she and I have an understanding. I promised her that I would feed her and water her and take care of her as long as she leaves certain things alone in my house. She occasionally tries to get away with something and if I catch her all I have to do is look at her and she gets down. She, to date, has never gotten up on my computer desk. She knows it is off limits.

Hark... she beckons... I must go and tend to her...

I am not controlled by my cat.

I'm NOT...

I mean it.

Stop laughing at me.

LOL, I know that sound very very well after 30+ years of being a slave to our furry evil overlords. ;)  Fun story though.  I'd actually like to get my hands on the actual research papers and material.  Yes, I'm boring that way.  Plus the might fuzzgods need something to lay on while I'm trying to read it. ;)
