I have just been offered a Skogkatt, the reason, The owner has just found they are allergic to the cat, it's saliva when the cat licks it's coat and it dries there.

I would love a Skogkatt, such a neat looking kitty, but I feel there has got to be a way the owner can keep the cat, a way to treat the allergy.

There are ways to reduce the amount of dander, contains the protein in question, that the cat sheds.

Most basically the cat needs to be brushed regularly, daily. For a long hair this can be tricky but if the cat is young it can be taught to allow it. I have a big longhair, Maine Coon which may be related to the Skogkatt, and she has become tolerant of being brushed every day or two. The breeder claimed that other kittens he's sold have been trained to allow baths but I stopped trying in order to preserve my health.

The cats bedding needs to be washed regularly and the floors need to be vacuumed/mopped frequently.

Good luck.

What an adorable little beauty......and she's not getting between you and your games...she is being nice by ALLOWING you to play said game.......*snort*

Actually, one of the few things I have been able to "train" into my kettehs is that when they are up on my computer desk, and I'm there, is "Down in front!"  They will lay down so I can at least see the monitor...of course, they do it when THEY want to, so it may be a few minutes!  They must show you who is the real boss!

She spied my fleece Philadelphia Eagles blanket folded at the bottom of the bed and she promptly went over to it and curled up on it. It is now "hers". The rest is history...
I will say though, she and I have an understanding. I promised her that I would feed her and water her and take care of her as long as she leaves certain things alone in my house. She occasionally tries to get away with something and if I catch her all I have to do is look at her and she gets down. She, to date, has never gotten CAUGHT up on my computer desk. She knows it is off limits.

Um, Gauge, hate to burst your little bubble, but I fixed your typo for ya....

And of COURSE you are controlled by your cat......it's all part of their plan for world domination.  If they ever mutate to getting opposable thumbs, the human race as we know it is doomed....DOOOOOMED!

i am NOT...repeat NOT a slave to the Tickey Kitty....  Despite the fact that when we are engaging in some D/s activities the cat looks at me like, "Yeah, bitch..i wish i could hit ya like that.." or when i touch him right after He's done something to me Tickey will instantly look at Him as if to say, "Doesn't she need to ask permission to touch me?"...

At any rate, while i am not a slave to the Tickey Kitty..He however very much is..mwaa haaa haaa haaa haaa...It's gotten so bad that Tickey's food dish is in the middle of the living room floor. Why? Because Tickey does not like eating alone...And then there's the whole reality that i'm no longer permitted to take a bath alone... Because the Tickey kitty wants to be in the bath tub with me.....
Although i must tell you regarding the laser pointer thing....Tickey made that not so fun within about five minutes.... After engaging with him in this activity for about five minutes i was attempting to continue to entertain him and me with this thing and he just started looking at me like i was stupid...And finally he walked up to my hand and  bit my hand... Apparently that was his way of communicating to me that we were through with that activity...

I have never owned a male cat. I never wanted a male cat. In fact after my last kitteh died last summer I swore I was never going to get another cat. One day my mother dragged me over to my cousins. She can't say why she did so and I argued with her about going. Sure enough there was a litter of abandoned kitteh's. I picked up this little black and white male (the runt of the litter). He was so cute and adorable and I had to bottle feed him. Now he's about 6 weeks old and he is a little terror. When he sits on the kitty condo I know that he is hungry and ready to eat. Yes he has this huge kitty condo, in addition to a warm little furry cave where he can hide from the dogs. He also has me trained that he has to play for an hour in the morning before he can eat. I am also required to take him outside on my shoulder when the dogs go out in the back yard. He's still young, but I do believe he is still training me.

So, here's a question that i often ponder...Sometimes verbally..Sometimes..not so much..

If He is a slave to the cat..And i believe i have a preponderance of evidence to prove that indeed He is..And i am not..{No way..No shape..No how..Not gonna happen} Does that then make Him by virtue a slave to me??? HMMMM?????

Yeah, uh huh, right. You know what the cat's version of this is? "When you see your human with the laser pointer, do some catnip...then just enjoy the rush of running around like a maniac till you get seriously dizzy. Here's the coolest part: your human will actually pee herself, I promise!"

if the cat is really evil (most are) you will also have a good sized pile of cat puke to clean up after you change your undergarments.

When people first see my cat they often look at her funny and I often catch them counting her toes later. I always love the odd expression when they start double checking '1, 2, 3, 4 ,5... 6?'

The Dominion Post, the Wellington daily newspaper here in NZ, stated a few days ago that studies have been conducted into a cat's purr. According to the results of these studies (no joke! feel free to look this up on google!), it has been found that cats have learnt to manipulate their "owners" with certain tone of their purr, based on how humans react to the sound of a crying child. Cats apparently have learned to use certain tones and types of meow in their purr to ensure they are fed whenever they want. The reaction of their humans encourages them to repeat this behaviour.

my four cats decided a LONG time ago that my bed is THEIRS. my electric blanket is THEIRS. my 9 1/2 year old girl, Rose, decided three years ago, that my bathmat/s are HER toilet, despite there being a cat litter box for each cat. i should be thankful for this, at least, as back in 2004, the rug in the living room of my former house used to be her bathroom of choice, for no apparent reason. She just decided this one day.

She even tried to indoctrinate the younger ones (Button, now 4; and Amanda, now 1) last year. Thank god those two tired of the bathroom routine. They now use the box or go outside, like normal cats.

The snatching human food off my plate and out of my hand, is a TOTALLY different story........(oh, boy, don't ask.....).........

......i love my brats :) They're going to be LOOOOVED in the US when they get there!!!!

it means the cat is so good at manipulating you that you do not even realize it is happening?

on a not really related note, i had to have my kitty put down a week ago. i just got a lovely, hand written, with kitty's name and all, note to say that they were thinking of us and they were sure we were wonderful owners who had had years of special times with said kitty.

i've never had a vet do that!
